I had a life changing coconut popsicle here yesterday. The selection of bespoke treats was unreal - every option was quality and fresh. They also had frozen bananas that looked so good - I want to come back every day!!!

    Paletas

This place was recommended to me by a family member so I decided to try it out. I bought a few popsicles (paletas) and didn't disappoint. Paletas are so fresh and so delicious! A bit on a higher price for each but paletas are so good with real fruit. The place is kept clean and organized. The staff was courteous. They are located downtown Novato with plenty of parking around. I enjoyed it and I am definitely planning to go back. Until next time. Chao!

    Mangonada

I went there and had the mangonada, which I had never had anywhere before. I loved it. When I sat down to eat it, I didn't realize how long that would take. 1/2 hour, probably because of the intense cold of the sort-of-frozen fruit.

Do not miss any opportunity to consume a Mangonada

If truth be told, a recent trek to a Novato's Mt. Burdell Preserve was just a masked excuse. Post-hike, I hadn't been back in the car 5 minutes before asking if we could go to La Michoacana. My reasons for wanting to go here were two-fold: First, I believe it's the only place in Marin where one can get a Mangonada. Second, I'd once gone to a place in the Palm Desert area that bears the same name and found their Mangonada superb. I like Mangonadas. Actually, I sort of love them and the ones at this outpost of La Michoacana were no exception. Though the worker at this shop said they make theirs a little different than some places, I am apparently just a lover of any Mangonada. These were excellent. The usual mix of salty, sweet, tart, chewy, and tangy. To me, a Mangonada could only have originated in Mexico. If the world were a just place, the Mangonada would be as ubiquitous as the taco. I also tried a cupful of ice cream (caramel, custard: both good and positively gritty with sugar). Though the offerings were similar, this La Michoacana looked different than the one I'd gone to in the desert and when asked I was told that the owner also owns a La Michoacana in Sonoma. Whether all of them are related remains a mystery to me but here's what I do know: * The Mangonada here is reason enough to head to Novato; * Maybe also for a frozen banana, paleta, or ice cream; and * I'll likely stop at every La Michoacana I see from here on out. There's good stuff to be had wherever they're found.

Great stop for ice cream in Novato. Was browsing around yelp to find dinner and La Michoacana popped up, so happy it did. Flavors are great, good amount of flavors you wont find at your typical ice cream store. Went with the Bionico ($8) and 2 Paletas ($3/each), one Melon (Cantaloupe) and one Sandia (Watermelon). If this store was not so far id love to go back more to try more flavors Some flavors that sound interesting, Spicy Mango, Spicy Pineapple, Rum Raisin, Rice Pudding, and Tequila

Lime paleta tastes like real lime...probably because it is! Tart sweet sensation :)

I suggest looking on Bank Street, Mono Ave and Elsie Lane to start with. Go slowly and watch for people and bicycles. 2) It's a tiny shop and there may be a line. It could be long. Remember, one human can only physically scoop so much ice cream in a minute. The process cannot be rushed. Patience will be rewarded... I promise. 3) Have cash. 4) Their waffle cones and cups are handmade, so the crunchiness or chewyness may vary. Some may be more crunchy or or chewy than others. For me, I thought the flavor of the cone was awesome! 5) Study the daily ice cream flavor list as you approach the counter. Smile, ask for a waffle cone or cup. They come in kid or regular size. Specify how many scoops you want per cone/cup. 6) Remember, scooping ice cream for hours at a time isn't easy... and Scoop is very, very popular for a reason. Service was good and efficient.

I was greeted with a hello. Smiling I responded with a hello in return. Interested in purchasing quarts of ice cream to go, I focused on the refrigerator by the door. At the same time, the two workers walked behind the refrigerator area, and began talking to one another. There was No "how can I help you? "Or, "Let us know if have any questions. Have you tried our....?" When I was ready to pay for my ice cream, the employee walked to the register. No smile to me, I was still smiling. I made friendly customer eye contact. They stared blank at me. Not even a crack of a smile. And, no questions like, "can I get you anything else?" Just a dead cold- effort to not smile or give customer service look and a "do you want a bag?" Before the total appeared on the register. I trust that the ice cream will be tasty, because it has been for years upon years across America. However, I will not return to this store ever again. What horrible customer service! Owners, you are probably losing more sales than you realize because of the poor customer service. Good luck. The staff next door at Tagliaferris could probably help you with customer service lessons. Super nice improvement on not having all the high school kids…read morecrowd the place up but I notice that they open pretty late in the afternoon now because when I come through the area (usually around 12:30pm) they are still closed which is a bummer to not get ice cream during my lunch break. I get it that we're in the winter cold months now, but I still like to eat ice cream when it's cold, doesn't matter. I have different issues with this place now though. Every time I go to Bliss now and want something they are usually out of it. Here's what I mean ... about 3 weeks ago I wanted a frozen banana which I've gotten before, they were out. I came back the next day because I still had a hankering for the frozen banana, they were still out. I went back the next week, they still haven't made any. I asked the girl working there and she told me they haven't had any frozen bananas in stock for a long while. Then why is it on the menu board?! And I see the label for it in the freezer display too. Geez, take it off the menu if you guys don't want to make any frozen bananas. WTH? Don't even ask for a banana split. Another time I came in wanting to buy a couple of their made-to-order ice cream sandwiches (because they are actually really good) to bring to my nieces. The same girl behind the counter who works during the day said they were out of cookies. I came back yesterday, still no cookies to make the ice cream sandwiches. Like seriously?! Do we need to take these off the menu board too? I came in last week wanting the Dole pineapple soft serve they sell. It was so good over the summer and pineapple sounded so good at that time. What do you mean there isn't any? I even asked about that yesterday as well. When will they have it back in the machine? The girl behind the counter said she didn't know when. Again, take it off the menu guys. Yeah, I'm disappointed they don't keep everything on their menu in stock. Why even bother keeping these items on their menu board? Oh, and yesterday I opted for the berry sorbet. The poor girl couldn't crack the dang thing. It was frozen SOLID. They need to retire that flavor then or just throw it out. You need a jack hammer to break that thing apart. I walked away not getting anything. No frozen bananas, no soft serve of any kind, no cookies to make ice cream sandwiches. And no, I don't want to pay $25 for an ice cream pie. Here's a kicker ... there's a plaque hanging in the front window that suggests they sell hot cocoa or mochas, but it's NOT on their menu board at all. LOL!!! I had to ask how much it was because I was curious. If you come here just expect straight up ice cream that's displayed in their freezer because that's all they sell. And why are there so many non-dairy flavors? A bit weird, but I guess that might be a plus? Maybe the next thing I'll crave will be a milkshake and they won't have the milk to make it with. Don't even bother looking at the menu board. They don't have it. I might just have to go back to La Michoacana on Grant. They have everything on their menu. Always.
