I have been training with Peter for only a short amount of time so far, but I can tell you that I have found what has got to be Seattle's best personal trainer. He is extremely knowledgeable about a variety of ways to work with fitness and nutrition. Work outs routinely contain a mix of resistance training, cardio, flexibility, sculpting, stability, with boxing and aerial work as well. Where else can you lift weights, box like a champ, and pretend that you are in the circus all in one training session - while getting an incredible workout at the same time. My workouts are never boring, always exciting, and most importantly... fun! Additionally, he is full of nutritional knowledge and diet tailoring expertise. He was able to work with me and my crazy schedule to come up with a program that worked for me, I was able to stick to, and didn't leave me feeling hungry or wanting. My journey to fitness began several years ago. I worked with a trainer that started the process and helped me lose a lot of weight quickly. I was so pleased with the changes in my body that unfortunately I didn't realize I had already started down a path towards being concerned with body image only. Our workouts were based on a "bodybuilder" type training program and we never altered that program. I had no idea that what was originally a journey towards health and a better me had turned into an obsession with body image and very little work towards overall health. Fast forward to last July when I began working with Peter after about a 7 month break from my previous trainer. I had put on a good amount of weight over that break and had lost a lot of the confidence I had during my previous training sessions. I first met Peter because he trained in the same gym that I worked out in with my old trainer. I remember calling Peter and asking him if he had any openings in his schedule to take me on as a client and was thrilled when he agreed. At our first meeting we discussed where I was, what I wanted to accomplish, what I liked about my previous routine and what I wanted to change. Peter immediately understood my concerns of how easy it is to fall into the body image idea of training and not look at overall health and he was confident he could help me get back on track towards achieving my goals. On our first workout he completed an assessment based on my performance on some weight and stabilization exercises and he worked up our routine. It was immediately obvious that I had absolutely no cardio health whatsoever even though I had good muscle strength. Our first couple of months focused entirely on core strength and stabilization with good amounts of cardio throughout. He explained how my previous routine used large muscle groups but because the smaller muscle groups had not been engaged this resulted in my body not firing completely and using all the muscle groups to achieve whatever set or activity I was attempting. He also explained how the "2 minute break" between sets that is common in heavy lifting body builder routines was not helping me achieve a stronger, higher heart rate for heart health. Since those initials workouts to present day, Peter has never ceased to surprise me with his knowledge, excitement or variety in our workouts. He seems to be able to sense exactly when we need to switch things up to keep me challenged and allow me continue to burn off fat and increase my overall health. He incorporates weight training, circuit training, cardio, boxing, core, Pilates, aerials and much more into his workout routines. He pushes me to levels I would never achieve on my own and after every set I am proud of the fact that I achieved more than I thought possible. He is highly motivating, friendly and even a little goofy. I look forward to every appointment that I have to both enjoy Peter's company and workout like an animal. If I could give Peter 6 (or 10...or, actually, infinite) stars I would - working with him has been absolutely inspirational and life-changing! As others commented, the sessions he designs are fun, challenging and always a bit different - no getting bored with your workouts! Aside from the fact he's helped me to the best shape of my life, I greatly appreciate his approach and knowledge base. He is supportive and provides all the information you need to be fit, but doesn't make you feel guilty if you opt not to heed his advice (or if you fall off the bandwagon, as is prone to happen from time to time). I've been training with Peter for about seven months now and he's been incredible. I had gone to him initially with a goal of getting "swimsuit ready" for a trip to Mexico; not only was it the first time I'd gotten into a swimsuit in over five years, but I had shed over 18 pounds and quite a bit of body fat. Following my trip, I knew I needed to keep going to him. Not only has he helped me while at the gym, he has also helped me with my nutrition - what to eat, what not to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, etc. - what's even better is he takes the time to explain why it's important to eat when he tells you to eat and the benefits of what you're eating. When you know why you need to do things, I think you're a bit more inclined to actually do it. (He also very much holds you accountable.) It was difficult to start working out again after years of zero activity and still difficult now, but the difference is when I started I couldn't lift weights, couldn't do a push-up; now the difficulty comes from trying to see how much I can lift and how many reps I can do. I was a professional contemporary dancer for 25 years. Imagine a combination of ballet, gymnastics and full contact sports and you have a picture of what my work was like.
