Been here so many times over the years. Speaks for their consistency I think. Always enjoyed the Mayberry feel of this place. It's old, smells funny, but they do make some good meals and provide nice, quick service. Prices are reasonable and there's rarely a long wait. I would not stay at the motel, it's straight out of a Friday the 13th movie. read more

Service was incredibly slow even though we were seated immediately. The staff was friendly, but it took forever for us to get our drinks and we waited an hour on biscuits and gravy. The food was ok and not too expensive. Definitely not worth waiting an hour for, though. They also start turning people away at 11am but do not have a sign at the door or anything. It was very awkward being sat by the entrance and having to listen to people argue about being turned away. We were in the area two weekends in a row, and met up with some family the second weekend who insisted on eating here even though we mentioned the insane wait time. Luckily for my partner and I, we were turned away. The issue could just be that there aren't enough breakfast restaurants in the area, but idk. read more

Meh. It's Backcountry WV. If it only sucks as much as you expect, you are in the right place. Staff was inept and scattered. Clearly short staffed. Lunch will be at least an hour after you are seated. Place is sticky and frayed, but the food is actually not too bad. Had to ask 3 times for a to-go container. They wanted to bus the table, but I'm still waiting 10 min for my doggie bag. Next time I'll just wad it up in some napkins and hit the road. So glad our rental has a kitchen and we can cook delicious food for ourselves. read more

Stopped in for breakfast before a long day of hiking. This little restaurant in the small town of Davis is worth coming to for breakfast. I got the Sawmill Breakfast Bowl, their signature item, and it was so filling. Would recommend if you're staying in town. read more

Well the brekfast was delicious. The Mountaineer Breakfast was a nice size. The potatoes were real and delicious. The eggs were smalllike and slughtly over cooked forover medium. The pancakes were huge ans delicious. Now the bad news. Two waitresses wearing their mask over their chin and mouth, not their nose. 3 males came out of the kitchen with no masks. Cook??? Won't be back until I get vaccinated, if then. This review is based on their COVID protocol adherence. How hard is it to wear a mask? read more

The home cooked breakfast here is just like grandma used to make, it was so good!! Day 3 of our trip will actually consist of the same breakfast because I cannot wait to have it again. The locals were incredibly friendly and the staff was very welcoming. read more

We've been coming here skiing for years , since the 90's. the sawmill was always a solid place for breakfast or diner. Deserts too. Country cookin made from scratch. I was here motorcycling July 2012 , stopped for breakfast and ended up eating here everyday at least once sometime twice the 5 days we were in the area. Give it a try. The prices are reasonable , the staff is friendly. I'll stop in whenever I'm in the area. Tip: it's just off route 32 behind the Alpine Lodge,a little north of Hellbinders and Downtown Davis WV. 200 yards or so. read more

If you want to abandon calorie counting and have a home cooked meal, this is the place. My hubby made the better choice, ordering the roast beef with mashed potatoes. OMG....that roast beef was so tender. The sweet tea is legit, too. Cindy, who both cooks and serves, was ever so gracious. If you want chic food with microbrews on tap, don't come here. If you want to eat some comfort food, damn the calories, you will not be disappointed. read more

This past weekend was out with some photographers friends and decided to have breakfast here before hitting the falls for pictures. I ordered something I thought would be simple, 2 eggs over medium, toast and bacon. Out of the 8, I was the last one served. My eggs were sunny side up and well done. Since we were on a tight schedule I didn't even bother asking for a replacement as I figured the cook had no idea what what they were doing if you can't get eggs right. Everybody else ordered scrambled. Service was attentive and accommodating, but that's it, would not eat there again next trip. read more

We just had two takeout meals from The Sawmill. One was the beef dinner, with mashed potatoes, thick bread and a fabulous gravy. Five stars! The fried chicken was excellent; the fries with it good but not great (maybe because we had to drive for ten minutes before we could eat them?). I can't speak to the service except that it was pleasant and fast for takeout. People were dining in, with a table in between each party. Only downside was that the hostess/waitress was not wearing a mask. Would definitely dine from there again! read more

Food was good and service was fast and friendly. I had the salad bar and the fish platter. They were both good. If you park in the front it is a little confusing when you first walk in because you open the door and you are in the hallway of the motel park of it and you have to walk through the next door infront of you and go upstairs to the restaurant. We were here for dinner. I ordered the trout dinner with a side of grilled veggies, my wife preferred the fried fish. My friend had the spicy burger with mashed potatoes for the side. The fried fish was good. But rest were average. The trout was rubbery. The grilled veggies were charred and very greasy. My friend's burger had decent flavor but the meat was very dry. We came very hungry and left fed so the purpose of this visit was fulfilled. However staff is friendly and makes you feel welcome. Won't go back.. I've been going to the Sawmill, especially for breakfast, for years. Recently I went in and ordered a ham and cheese omelet and I was very disappointed for the first time. After a long wait, I got a sad plate of cold scrambled eggs with a couple pieces of fatty ham and some cheese on top. My partners food was cold as well. With that being said I was not impressed with the service and probably will not be going back. read more

Homemade Breakfast Seat yourself and pick from pancakes, biscuits, meats, and eggs. The biscuits were tender and big. I enjoyed a regional specialty - buckwheat cakes with sausage. Wow, don't skip dessert- blackberry pie and Cinnamon Roll Sundae were incredible. For entrees we enjoyed the open faced roast beef with homemade bread. One improvement that we'd suggest is painting the wood walls to lessen the old smoke smell. read more

So I asked the cashier for Alpine Lodge what a great place for breakfast and then they told me The Sawmill Restaurant which is owned by Alpine Lodge. So I went down to Dollar general to get some laces and insoles for my shoes. And I asked their cashier what was the best place for breakfast in Davis, WV. And they told me The Sawmill Restaurant. So back to where we started. I got a Sawmill Meat Lovers Scramble and it was so delicious and my girlfriend got the mountain top biscuit scramble and she said it was phenomenal. read more

Friendly and welcoming service in a true local restaurant atmosphere. Great home cooking options on the menu was just the cherry on top. Loved our meals - especially the mashed potatoes drowning in gravy. You know it's a good place when they aren't shy with the gravy.
