The perfect spot for breakfast. We came at 11am and it was nice and empty, only 3 other people dining outside so we had lots of distance from everyone else. We did pass by again around 1pm and the restaurant was filled with people, if you're looking to avoid crowds come earlier in the day. The crispy bacon omelet was exactly what I was hoping it would be, crispy bacon! Also the basic burrito was delicious. We will be having breakfast here again on our next trip back! read more

Very handy place for outdoor dining and a great bar. It's about a 10 min walk inland away from the water across from the golf course. Delicious Carnitas Burrito . Just okay chicken tostada but it worked - Better food on menu. Wonderful margaritas and friendly staff. Large patio for fun outdoor food and drinks. read more

Pros: -happy hour $1 tacos from 2-7pm EVERYDAY! Such a huge time frame for happy hour! -tacos were decent with a good amount of meat in them. Could use more roping offerings -happy hour pitchers of beers and margaritas have decent prices too -located conveniently below the garden to sky hike so it's the perfect place for a post hike meal or snack! -plenty of outdoor seating area -self serve seating at tables -menu also serves other items but theyre pricier -alcoholic drinks are strong! They put a lot of alcohol in them ($5 per drink or get a pitcher for way cheaper!) Cons: -very small, cramped bathrooms but they're decently clean read more

The food is absolutely disgusting and going with group of nonpicky eaters, everyone hated the food. The food feels old and I'm anticipating to be absolutely sick for the next two days from the food. If you are looking for a quick/ fast/ casual bite to eat on Catalina, Sand Trap is a good option, especially during happy hour, since there didn't seem to be a ton of options on the island. It's located next to a golf course, and I would say an easy 10 minute walk from the main strip of town. Went for happy hour for the $2 tacos (there are only four options) and I think the ground beef & carnitas was my favorite. Wish I had asked about green salsa because it would have added some extra flavor. Casual seating outside on plastic chairs. The tables weren't the cleanest so I was just careful with not touching it. Order at the window. If you want drinks, order at the bar. read more

Ended up with food poisoning. The tacos were bland and the tortillas were raw. The salsa was basically ketchup. This is colonizer American tacos at their finest being served to VERY drunk tourists. Avoid at all costs unless you're expecting something a tiny step above Del Taco. Drinks are strong, so they get a star for that. read more

I usually have breakfast here while camping. Good portions. Sometimes I stop for their happy hour tacos and beer. Relaxing outdoor seating. This is the place if you want casual and away from the sit down restaurants and crowds in town. read more

I can't exaggerate with this one. This was one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had! I was VERY surprised. I got the basic breakfast burrito and added Machaca and added salsa. It was super seasoned and the meat was moist and was very flavorful. We also got the $20 shots of Don Julio 1942. This was a great place to eat! Came here for happy hour. For $2, the tacos are pretty good! The chorizo is the best of the happy hour tacos, but the carnitas and chicken are still very tasty. And the food all came out very quickly. You might have to ask for the green salsa, but definitely do it. It has a great flavor and is much better than the red salsa. The drinks are also good. All in all, it's a very solid Mexican place. read more

Super happy we found this place! Love their $1 street tacos during happy from 2 pm to 7 pm. Got 10 tacos, fries, and 2 drinks for $20! So cheap! The homemade tacos were not bad. Tasted good for how cheap it was. Toppings were limited. The red sauce was super spicy. Green sauce was decent. Fries were crunchy. Drinks were refreshing. The Stand Trap isn't the cleanest place to eat at, but we still enjoyed it. A couple seats inside and a lot out in the patio area. Closes at 7 pm. Definitely a great place to save money on food! A real locals place in a town that is mostly set up for visitors! We loved the Sand Trap with its big patio and order at the counter set-up. Perfect for the Covid times we are in and not a big deal at all when it's over:-). We dined there several times during our week in Avalon. The quality of the food is great, the prices are good and patio is just fine. If you have high-brow tastes maybe this isn't your place but for normal folk it's right on the money. Located at the first tee of the nice little 9hole course part way up the hill to the botanic garden the Sand Trap patrons are usually a mix of golfers, locals and a few hikers on the way back to town. With an impressively extensive menu and a great little roll-door bar this place has it all going on. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and though there are many food choices all over Avalon, we kept finding ourselves at the Sand Trap :-) read more

Happy hour!!! $1 street tacos?! Sure why not? You just spent a shit load of money on the ride to the island, renting a golf cart, and paid double whammy for a 1 night stay at a hotel because most hotels require 2 night minimum or charges you an arm for 1 night during peak season (May-October). So now does these $1 tacos seem so bad?! Who cares! It's a freaking dollar. I suggest you get the chicken only. It's shredded chicken, taste better then the other 2 options. The chorizo wasn't too good and i dare not get the ground beef... But seriously what do you expect for a $1?! People be asking that these dollars taste like a million bucks or something... $5 margaritas, strong as hell. Couldn't finish mine and gave it to the bf. Got the $2 draft, only bud light, but tasted nice and cold on a hot Catalina day. We made a pit stop here while exploring the island with our golf cart, it's literally "on the way" route. read more

Breakfast was horrible. Ordered huevos rancheros and a breakfast burrito and threw them both away. What a waste of money. The potatoes were hard, there was no brown on them. They came on the side of the rancheros and in the burrito. The tortilla on the bottom was mush. The sausage was dark brown. Way overdone. I love supporting local business but you cant serve something that isn't edible. I wasted my time and money then had to find something else for breakfast. read more

My friend and I were walking along the green pier and asked one of the lifeguards which place had the best happy hour and he recommended this place. He said it was 15 minute walk located across from a golf course and nearby a fire dept. We finally found it, it was a good walk in the sun :) The good $5 margaritas $19 margarita pitchers $2 bud lights $ 1 tacos The taco line had about 25 people in it for the full 45 mins we were there!! The bartender was very happy and entertaining My friend and I got the margarita pitcher, chips and salsa, and steered clear of the tacos... I have this weird thing about buffet style food with hundreds of hands digging in. Anyway, everything was A-ok nothing special. Five minutes walk from town center. Less touristy. Saw some local firemen eating lunch there. Pleasant outdoor tables. You order at cashier and they bring the food when ready. The food and bar are separate with their own cashiers. The burrito I had was ok. During the happy hour, can have $6 descent lime margaritas! read more

To be frank, I was quite hesitant to come here because of it's health score, but I can say after my visit I have not experienced any tummy issues or anything weird. Food was actually good. I got the Huevos Rancheros. Also, the location on the map is wrong on Yelp--you got to keep walking a little more passing the fitness park. It's across the street from the golf place. However, I have some constructive feedback for them. - If you list your open at 8am, make sure you open at that time. If not, then change the time you actually open. - Don't wear earbuds/headphones while working. was trying to get a staffs attention who was mopping making sure if they're open or not, but she had earbuds on...couldn't hear a thing I was saying and I was speaking in a loud tone to get her attention and in Spanish. Probably woke up the whole neighborhood. - Have a call bell in the order window just in case you need to step away from the window or work on teamwork. Felt service was not attentive. Aside from ordering my first item, came other times to request other things at their order window but...nobody at the front but I saw the cook and he saw me. At least he could've let somebody know I was there or let me know somebody will come shortly. I waited for a while until some other staff arrived. I know many say pineapple doesn't belong on a pizza, but we happen to like it. The crust of the pizza was thin and covered in melted cheese, chunks of pineapple and slices of jalapeno. It was the perfect amount of spice and the pineapple calmed it down by adding a hint of sweetness. The beer was great, the pizza even better and you just can't beat the views of the bay. Service was good, and we were off to a good start of eating on Catalina Island.

We went to Bluewater Grill on Catalina Island for my birthday at the end of April, and overall I…read morewould say it was a good experience. The atmosphere was probably my favorite part. We sat outside with a really nice view, the weather was warm and pleasant, and overall it just felt like a very relaxing birthday dinner by the water. We both ordered fish, and it was good. Nothing super unique or unforgettable, but definitely tasty. The oysters were also fresh and really enjoyable. The only thing that felt a little off was the service. The food took a while to come out, and different servers kept coming to the table, which made things a bit confusing at times and caused some mix-ups with our order. But overall, we still left with a good impression. They even brought out a birthday dessert for me at the end, which was a nice touch. I'd say it's a solid 4 stars for me. Not perfect, but definitely a nice spot if you're visiting Catalina.

It wasn't just us. Other tables were unable to get their servers as well, just awkwardly sitting around with their finished food and no one to close out tab or take additional orders. Laughable.

Got our appetizer, the spinach artichoke dip, then our entrees, ahi tuna Poké bowl and classic smash burger. All the food was delicious! A few things to note. The bathrooms are on the 2nd floor of the restaurant, which we thought was interesting. Their menu doesn't list their non alcoholic beverages, like sodas or teas. Just ask the server and they'll list them. Also doesn't serve tap water, only bottled. I'd recommend everyone go to this place for sure when visiting Catalina Island!
