The Salty Dolphin bills itself as a tiki bar but it's not at all. It's dive bar just across the street from the beach. The interior is small and older and the exterior has patio seating. The service was friendly. They also rent golf carts but we didn't partake. We did share a pina colada and it was good. read more

They rent golf carts here. 3 hours was $120 or 24 for $150. Plus $100 deposit. We decide to do 24 hours at 10:15 am this morning. We drove it down to the beach then ending up taking a break because it was tough to drive. I'm 5'3" and had to sit on the edge of the seat and had to put a lot of pressure on the gas to go. The most frustrating part though was at times it wouldn't go and was squealing a bunch. Then I would be driving and it would jerk like it was loosing power. We took a break for a while then tried again but I ended up returning it at 2pm. They did ask if I wanted another one but I was unwilling to keep trying at that point. When I mentioned the squealing they said "yeah, it's a golf cart not a car". read more

I want to start by saying we visited this bar in May of 2022 as it was in the parking lot of our hotel. If this review was written then, I'd have given it 5 stars!! The food, music, and drinks were on point! Like drool worthy food!!! Flash forward two years and sadly, the same food items were less than appetizing. (See the pictures of the torta sandwich- circa 2022, and 2024-obvious difference.) The sandwich and peanuts were 100% not the same recipe as 2 years ago, and honestly didn't even seem cooked. The bar service is horrible beginning with the owner, David Anar. The staff has a miserable attitude due to how he micromanages them. The place is a dive, drinks horrible and the food is nasty. He also thought nothing of renting a golf cart that didn't run properly. When it died he refused to provide another cart and then even kept the deposit money. We drove by this place off the beach a few nights in a row and it was cold out so looked very slow. Knew that we had to stop at least once to check it out and I am so happy we did. The bartender made the experience so fun! It's a very small tiki bar with $2 Jello and pickle shots and a variety of booze. Found out they have food options and they do hot dogs in a pizza over. We just ate before, but would've been fun to try. This was within walking distance from the beach and next to a bunch of the condos/hotels near Whitecap Beach. There is a small restroom that is outside on left side of building. If you need a golf cart, they rent those also. We're in town for our honeymoon and we thought we'd stop for some late night eats and a couple drinks before we go back to our Airbnb at first the dive bar was cool small atmosphere, but the bartender was absolutely rude, having and puffing complaining about, not being tipped after every drink, even though we had an open tab I told her that we're still drinking and eating, and that she would receive a tip at the end of the night when we leave and she continue to argue with me about it. Never in my life have I came across the situation like that, aside from the bad service the pretzel My Husband got was burnt and they gave me a tortilla chips with the Mexican corn I got I'm not sure what the tortilla chips were there for but the corn was dry anyways zero out of 10 would not recommend head over to the slip,the service is great. Last year was good, went on 5-26-25, We got different 4 mix drinks and 4 shots, (two couples) out of all of that , only one of our drinks was drinkable, the rest tasted like crap. 65.00 dollars down the drain. We left and won't be back anytime soon. We always try to support the locals. read more

They literally had 3 grown men, the owner and two bartenders all yelling at us and not a single one was there to listen to our complaint. I dont even know the owner so why would I buy him an $18.25 shot? These hot heads threatened to call the police and treated us like we were trash...even the owner was yelling at us. I am a business owner in New Braunfels and I would never even think of being this rude to a customer. All that aside.... they stole money from me! Me and my family recently went on a family trip and rented a golf cart that they over charged us for as well as took our deposit when a tire popped, they said it was our fault. In the beginning, we asked for a 6 seater but none were working so they gave us a 4 seater and over charged us for only one vehicle they were also being rude about it not to mention they also stated that they been having issues with the carts because they are older. They do not maintain their carts and blame the customer when they break down. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Highly do not recommend. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. read more

This is only for the cart rental. I do not have a complaint for the restaurant. The guy doing the rental said "the tire are a little worn but it's getting new ones tomorrow" which didn't help me at all considering I rented it today for 24 hrs. We went ahead and took it considering we'd already charged our card. So we headed down the beach. The steering was pretty suspect and had a hard time driving on the streets. The alignment was out undoubtedly. The beach wasn't too hard on the steering but the cart stalled out on us for about a minute. Finally got it going and decided to take it back. It stalled out again mid drive down the road. The girl inside couldn't give me much information on even a partial refund except the "owner would be here at 6 and I'll have him call" I haven't received a call. First time checking this bar out! We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express and heard a lot of commotion coming from the bar and decided to be apart of it! Turns out they play Bingo every Wednesday and it's free to play with great prizes!! The owner doesn't spare any expense when it comes to the prizes. Great hospitality. Disgusting behavior from the owner when we had to deal with a golf cart malfunction. I would give them zero stars if possible. After less than five minutes of using the golf cart it stopped working for us. They then lied about sending help to assist us with the cart that was stranded on the beach so we had to walk a mile to find help after waiting a full hour for them to show up because they said they were coming to help. The owner is misogynistic and will try to find the fault in any woman involved instead of taking fault for his equipment and incompetence. Prayers to anyone who is willing to deal with that. My husband and I were here for the first time. They had an open sign that said 10 am. We were excited to try their food because of the 4-star reviews. Unfortunately, we didn't get 1 star. We walked in at 10:04 am and were told it was not open and that a lady was cleaning up. So we sat outside for four more minutes. Another lady walked in, ready to work. We asked her what time she had. She stopped, looked at her watch, and said 10:05 am. We smiled and said okay. I wasn't sure if there was a different time out here. We enjoyed The Salty Dolphin so much, we went back after dinner for a nightcap and Kristy was very attentive and friendly. I read they have bingo on Wednesday nights in the reviews. I took my family to play bingo and eat. When we got there, we did not realize how small the actual bar was. There was nowhere to sit inside or outside, if you are not a fan of packed small spaces this is not the place for you.
