My husband and I went there for dinner. Although we didn't make an reservation. We were seated almost immediately. The starter we choose was the fresh scallops. We both had pan fried fish. It was so delicious. Follow by dessert. Overall all dishes are outstanding. The staff were friendly and attentive. The setting was casual and comfortable.

Been meaning to head here for over a year but mixed reviews and the lack of a special occasion have meant we only got to go yesterday for our sons 1 month anniversary with 7 of us in total. Got to say it was worth the wait. The venue is one of the nicest I think of many of the restaurants in Brighton, and more importantly now that we have a buggy with us permanently it's spacious. A nice oval booth had a really nice feel and they must have dropped some serious cash on the refit. Top marks. The food was also great, beautifully presented and whilst the main menu can get pricey there is also a set menu that is much more reasonable at about £15 for two courses and £20 for three. We were also aloud to pick bits from the the set menu that weren't on the main which was good. The starters were divine (I had chicken livers) and the sharing surfboard was pretty impressive looking. A bit of a ball ache to eat as you have to de-shell the crab etc yourself which I'm not that into but if you like getting dirty when eating it's right up your ally. The fish curry and chips were also great. I'd heard about the seaside desert before hand and really wanted to try it. It's looks spectacular and elements of it are great but I found a lot of it so sweet and sugary it was a bit too much. The mini donut was amazing though. Will definitely be going back when I'll probably try a less messy main and one of the other deserts which all looked amazing. It worked out about £55 a head with a couple of beers each and a bottle of wine between 7 of us so not as extortionate as I'd been led to believe but definitely on the higher end. But you do get what you pay for. Check it out.

The surf board - some of the best seafood I've ever had

Absolutely outstanding! We booked the salt room for our anniversary and it was everything we wanted and more, perfect for a special occasion. We had octopus to start, which was delicious and perfectly cooked, then the surf board platter to share and honestly, it was some of the best seafood I've ever had! Langoustine, prawns, scallops, mussels and crab claws, all perfectly fresh and very very tasty. Even the bread on the side was very good! What made The salt room really stand out was the staff - incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. They really made us feel special. I would highly recommend this place for a special occasion.

8.10pm on a Tuesday night, restaurant half empty but wouldn't seat a table of six. Computer says no, so English you couldn't make it up.

It's situated about the Royal Thai restaurant so have to enter the Thai restaurant, turning left and go upstairs to get to the steakhouse. Its nicely decorated and the tables are well-spaced. There's also a nice bar area with a glass floor which is really interesting! There's a large outdoor area overlooking the bay which would be great in the summer. We ordered the deep fried brie to start (and share) and it was really well done. We obviously both ordered steaks for our mains - we got one sirloin and one fillet - both cooked rare. They were great steaks and cooked to perfection. It was also just the right size for one person and it was very filling. We also ordered some side dishes - we both particularly liked the Parmesan, black truffle oil fries which were absolutely delicious! I'd go back just for them! We had the cheese board for desert and it didn't disappoint though as always, i would have liked more cheese. We paired this with a nice glass of port from their selection of 3/4. The wine is reasonably priced and the service was brilliant. The staff were attentive and knowledgable and very courteous; they even ordered us a taxi for when we were ready to leave. I really liked this restuarnat and I can't wait to visit it again.

The first rack of ribs that we all ordered was alright, but as the racks progressed, the quality became worse. I'm not quite sure how this happened, because The Old Bank used to be quite a reputable establishment that offered high quality food and service. Also, I was a little dubious about the mixed Yelp reviews it's had over the last few years. I thought I'd be a fairy Yelp mother for the night and celebrate Valentine's day with my husband at the same time. We were welcomed by friendly staff. A bit sad we were ushered to our seats sandwiched in between a big group and a loud couple. Nevermind, that didn't dampen our experience as I was really looking forward to some good food. I had a bottle of Peroni and Mark had a bottle of IPA. We both ordered steak and ribs with chips. I like my steak well done and Mark like his medium rare. Both came in good time. However, I soon found out my steak was still mooing and Mark's was well done so had to switch plates when he's already smothered the steak with damn pepper sauce! I dare not said anything and just scraped it off. I had garlic butter with my steak and it was really nice. The rack of ribs were delicious. The meal really busted my belly and I was left impressed. My husband's input is he was impressed with the speedy bill upon request. It's nice to finish off our drinks in our own time and not spending much time making eye contact with waiting staff for the bill. I'd come back on a special occassion definitely.

I mention this because we have some amazing steak restaurants in SoCal. The restaurant had several families dining, and had a nice level of background chatter. Our chef took the time to come speak with us, recommend cuts of beef and generally go over our options. This was a lovely surprise as this rarely happens. We started with "fall off the bone" ribs and the Hallumi - (squeaky cheese - wish I could find this here in SoCal... if anyone reading this knows a place... please let me know!) We ordered rib eye steaks, I had the filet... with sides of creamed spinach/truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking, and the chef came back out to check on us. We actually ended up going back again just because the food and service were great. Look forward to visiting again! (Oooh... if you go, ask for their salts.. I liked the Merlot infused one)

After reading the reviews and hearing about it some more, We decided to make a day trip if it from London to Southend-on-Sea and see if the food lived up to the hype. Oh boy, the pictures don't do the food justice. Firstly, this is one of the very few places where the food actually looks like the picture!! So my hubby ordered the rib tips for a starter, daughter had the shrimp starter and I had the brisket end starter. We were bowled over by how delicious the starters were. The shrimp was crispy and just plain gorgeous, we've never tasted better, honestly. Just he shrimp alone made the trip worth it. The rib tips and brisket ends were also amazing. So yummy. For our mains, were we glad we'd starved before coming! Hubby had the manwich, massive sandwiches, never seen bigger honestly and he said they were sooo good. Sandwiches came with chips and coleslaw and he demolished the lot to the shock of the waiter lol. My daughter had hickory smoked ribs and that came with corn on the cob, salad, coleslaw and chips. The meat off the rib just literally fell off the bone. It was so delicious and so full of flavour that even she managed to eat most of it. I had the Almighty burger...there are just no words to describe the awesomeness of this beast. It also came with chips and slaw and it was fantastic I ate it all. The portions here are HUGE and we didn't need to eat anything else all day... Apart from dessert coz honestly we'd come all the way, why not have dessert hey? The dessert was amazing, everything was amazing. We were so full at the end, thank God the restaurant is right by the sea and pier so we had a long walk site seeing to get the food down before going back home. We are certainly returning to taste all the other stuff on the menu! YUMMY!!!!!! Service was really good and the music and drinks were excellent

Perhaps they messed up the recipe? Meat itself was very good, but I struggled to remove as much of the coating as possible. Sweetcorn overcooked. Staff seemed ingenuine...Atmosphere is pretty good, but pretty poor value and food is hit and miss. The place across the road is the opposite. Humble, delicious and well priced.
