Mange Tout is another of the North Laine cafe extravaganza, although it is more a restaurant. However, it is open in the days, and does serve coffee, thus making it a viable alternative to some of the busier locales in the area. However, at it's heart, Mange Tout is a surprisingly tasty and reasonably priced French restaurant, with some really tasty French classics: well worth a try! The food here is really excellent, although it's only open lunchtimes (except for the weekend). If you have the time, give yourself a lunchtime special: this is really exceptionally good, traditional food, cooked and served by French chefs and waiters. If you don't know a little about French food, you may feel confused: it is all in French, but the waiters are happy to offer advice. Apart from the food, the teas and coffees here are also excellent: the prices are fine, and the selection is a little more than you'd expect from your typical North Laine cafe. Some places try and combine restaurant and cafe, and Mange Tout is one of these places that does it really well. The staff are fine with just coffee and cakes, as they are if you ask for the full menu: all is accepted and fine. And, in the North Laine area, somewhere to sit and watch the world stream by is a god-send, just don't try and sit at midday for coffee: some angry, hungry people will give you some very dirty looks!

Sweet little breakfast/brunch place with very good coffee and delicious egg-centric offerings. Had a difficult time deciding away from the full English (aka, Complet Mange tout, which includes two rashers of free range Sussex bacon, Toulouse sausage, roasted mushrooms, wilted spinach, tomato compote, two eggs any way & organic tartine) but ultimately opted for the version of the Les Oeufs de Mange tout (two organic poached eggs, toasted organic sourdough & hollandaise sauce) that included local Sussex bacon, tomato compote, & wilted spinach) - and it was the absolute right choice. Not too much food, yet still all the ingredients that are important to me (i.e., bacon). Completely delicious! This is a PERFECT spot for breakfast/brunch & they do a VERY nice job with atmosphere, service & most of all FOOD!

Perfect place to fuel up before a full day in Brighton. The complete omlette is cheesy, savory and delightful.

Cafe Coho - flat white + avo & smoked salmon smash

Excellent food served quickly and with kind baristas and servers! I ordered the avo & smoked salmon…read moresmash, and was served my flat white within 5 minutes with the food arriving about 5 more minutes after that. The price point of 12.75 for the food + 3 for the flat white felt reasonable, although I am still acclimating to using pounds (first day here!). Music playing was soft and pleasant, and the seating was plentiful and clean. Definitely recommend this as a quick breakfast stop!

The place was really busy but I managed to find a free table outside and spent several minutes looking at the menu and I couldn't decide what to eat as everything sounded so appealing. After making up my mind I chose the falafel, olives and feta on flat bread and an orange juice. The staff seemed really friendly, because you order at the counter but they bring it to your table. My lunch was yummy. Not a super meal, more like a quick bite for lunch but was quite good and the falafel wasn't too crunchy and hard as I experienced before. I decided to not stay for coffee as I wanted to try some other cafés but overall the place was a really good choice for lunch. Nice decor with a few tables to have a seat outside in the sun, pleasant staff, free wifi and a good spot for people-watching (my favourite sport!!).

This is a humble independent cafe selling decent coffee and excellent home cooked food. The owner Elina hails from the Oseta region of south Russia and has brought some of the local cooking knowledge with her to breezy Brighton, and you can tell. The food is exquisite, cooked to perfection and the menu is packed with inventive recipes. Specials change regularly and there is plenty of choice on the regular menu. I recommend the Oseta's House, a delightful dish of scrambled egg with halloumi, tomato, and spinach... it really is to die for! Coffee is good (to this writer's taste buds anyway, but I'm no coffee aficionado) and there are plenty of other choices on the drinks menu. Honestly, if you haven't been here you need to get down immediately. Right now. Drop what you're doing this instant. You won't regret it.

I also had a brilliant fresh lemon and ginger tea and the staff were brilliant - really chatty and friendly, but not invasive. It was the right balance between informal and professional and I really appreciated it. I even left with a slice of Guinness cake (which was to die for). I really love this little spot, and certainly will be back to try the meat and cheese dishes.
