We started off with the jalapeno spoon bread which was just ok. I probably wouldn't get it again since it was mushy and just not that good. I had the spicy salmon Caesar salad, and my mom ordered the cedar plank salmon. My salad was bomb. The fish was cooked perfectly, and you can't go wrong with a good Caesar. My mom did not care for the cedar plank salmon since she thought it was a bit plain. It didn't come with sauce, so she asked for lemons to add some flavor. It was wet like it was sitting in a crock pot, not wet like "wet brisket" with the fatty goodness. Like bad pot roast with no flavor. The staff was great and I interacted with multiple people. The bar was self seating so for traveling alone, it was perfect as there was a small line for a table. I was in and out quick. My friends and I stopped here waiting for our next connecting flight. I'm so glad we stopped, it was full in the dining area but next to it there was a kiosk to order to go. Buffalo Meatballs: 9/10. It came in a clear jalapeño sauce which I loved over a normal brown gravy. It wasn't as heavy as traditional meatballs, great flavor Fried crawfish: 10/10, the star of the show, perfectly battered and the spicy sauce that came with it was delicious. The meat tasted so good Brisket topped corn tamales: 9/10 very good, brisket was moist and the base of the tamale had so much flavor. The sauce was a bit much, but good! Great stop for traveler. Lots of seats and friendly atmosphere. Watched college basketball while I waited for my connection and had time to grab a quick bite and a beer. Ordered a Hazy IPA a the Wild Boar Meatballs, both were excellent. The meatballs served with a side of Jalapeño jam and chips and paired perfectly. I went with the fried chicken sandwich, but 86'd the "hot"...as I am not interested in hot chicken before a flight! The chicken was nicely cooked, the bread was crips and the side of fries were good. I could have dealt with a bit more of a sauce on the sandwich, but they sided it with a ranch dipping sauce, which worked. My partner pieced their meal together with the shells and cheese and wild boar meatballs. The meatballs were small, but mighty. They were juicy and the glaze added just the right sweetness. The shells and cheese was a bit off, maybe a bit too much smoke/heat. Was not bad, but slightly overwhelming. The space is nice for an airport location. Wide open, decorated well and kept clean. Service was solid as well. Our server was quiet, but friendly and helpful when needed. Overall, solid spot at Hobby. Had a 2.5 hour layover and knew I wanted to eat at a sit down place to take a break from the travels. Came right at lunch time on a Thursday and was able to get seated immediately! We had the rustic burger, jalapeño spoon bread, and shells and cheese. The jalapeño spoon bread was savory with a little spice from the jalapeño and some chunks of corn. I usually like my cornbread more on the sweet side, but this one had a nice flavor. Wish it was a little warmer though The shells and cheese had a chipotle flavor to their cheese sauce which is different than the usual mac n cheese flavor profile. There was lots of cheese sauce and it was topped with some panko crumbs for texture. Very creamy, cheesy, and hit the spot if you're craving mac n cheese with a twist! We actually kept the sauce to dip our fries in. The rustic burger was okay, the onion was not as grilled as I would've liked (it was mostly raw) and again this was served lukewarm. Pretty standard burger in terms of flavor. Came with a side of McDonald's style fries and some ketchup. For food I think the current 3.5 star rating on Yelp is appropriate, but I will say the ambiance and service here were amazing which makes me give it the 4 stars. The live music made me feel like I was in an actual restaurant downtown and not at an airport. Best airport food outside of a lounge that I've had in a long time. Service was super friendly and relatively fast. I ordered a burger with macaroni and cheese subbed instead of fries and was so happy with the flavors of both. The burger didn't need any ketchup or adjustments. Before I headed home, I wanted to get one last bite from Houston and I chose The Rustic because it was close to my gate and a lady spoke highly of it. As I sat down I already had a craving for brisket or something along the lines of barbecue. I ordered The Rustic Burger, which is a favorite- it consists of their signature sauce, smoked brisket, white cheddar, onions and chiles. HTX has been treating me well as a foodie, so despite this place being in an airport, it really exceeded my expectation. The brisket and burger was juicy and cooked medium well (my preference) and you can taste the smokiness which is what I want when coming to Texas. The sauce really unified the sandwich. Shoestring fries were crispy abd hot and I loved the jalapeno on top of the burger. I got an apple juice and water to wash it all down. Had a long wait for a delayed flight after coming back from a cruise and needed somewhere to sit and rest while getting some food in my family. The Rustic was the perfect place. There was plenty of seating, a full bar, snack type foods for my kids, and some real food for me. The beer glasses are huge and heavy in a fun goblet shape. And they even had live music. A girl quickly came out and informed me they don't have egg whites I opted for scrambled. The food was made quickly and I took it back to my gate. I grabbed a seat at the large bar they have to have a quick drink before my flight. I was quickly served with my drink and then never really talked to again - I was contemplating ordering an appetizer or something but ended up not doing so since no one ever came in to check on me. Following a red eye from Seattle to Houston Hobby airport that arrived a little early - 0445 to be precise, I was getting a little hungry. Wendy's or McDonald's wasn't gonna cut it so we searched for a while before discovering The Rustic. Unfortunately it didn't open until 0600 so we had a while to wait after deplaning our Southwest flight. Once it opened we were seated and got menus. I ordered coffee and ice water for me and the wife. The waitress brought back our waters and my coffee and took our order for food. The wife ordered an American breakfast - two scrambled eggs, two slices of thick bacon, some outrageously good breakfast potatoes and a slice of toast. Typical fare but those potatoes.... man, were the good! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly crispy on the outside yet soft and pillowy on the inside. The eggs were ... well, eggs, she ate half of them. The bacon wasn't crisp (she forgot to order it crisp in all fairness) so she didn't eat it and gave it to me. The toast was good and she loved the strawberry jam they brought in a little cup. She was satisfied with her meal. I ordered the Smoked Brisket Breakfast Tacos which were stuffed with scrambled eggs and some decent brisket. It wasn't competition quality brisket or even average brisket considering we were in Texas, but it was passable and there was plenty of it in each taco. I ordered their version of salsa verde which was nice and spicy, just like I like it! On the side were those outrageously good potatoes too. I couldn't finish the two tacos, they were that stuffed with eggs and brisket, but I made sure to eat every delicious morsel of those potatoes. Service was great, food was great and prices weren't half bad considering we were eating in an airport. I'd definitely consider eating here again on our future trips through Hobby Airport. read more
