As we walked in to get some dinner on the 4th of July, I immediately liked the ambiance of this place. Indoor-outdoor, smaller areas of seating. Cozy and fun. After we were seated, things went downhill. It was not busy at all. Honestly, I would say that it was because of our waitress (Haley, I think was her name) was so darned cold, slow and forgetful. Her first encounter at the table was "I have something else to do, I'll be back in 2 minutes". Okay.....after 10 minutes, she asked if we wanted water, we replied "yes" and "we are ready to order drinks". Hmm, irritated look. My son and husband ordered a drink and then she looked at me and said "you good with water?". No, I'd like a glass of wine. The whole dinner was this way. She forgot to refill ice tea, stacked all the dirty plates at my daughter's place (right in front of her), we wanted a dessert to share. She told us the kitchen was closed. The service here is awful. They told us an hour wait. We waited 2 hours. When I went and and complained the guy said there is no way to quote an exact wait time yet the girl at the front was quoting an hour to some. I saw 15 people get sat ahead of me that were walk ins as well. There organization skills at seating are not good. When we finally sat down and the food came out it was cold and over cooked. I also got sick after eating the food. I'm certain it's here because I hadn't eaten anything else because I was looking forward to coming here. The only positive thing about this place is the live music. The band is phenomenal. If I could give the band 5 stars I would. We went on a Friday evening on a Friday and David did a great job taking care of us.! He guided us through the menu and our questions with pure honesty, which was great! We started off with the tamale appetizer, and I would totally get this again. Three different meats and very delicious! We tried the cactus fries which was new and fascinating. They were yummy and the dipping sauce was even better! I had the hot chicken and cheese sandwich while hubby had the carnitas tacos. Eating here was my first time dining in during COVID, and I felt very comfortable the entire time. All seating is outdoors, and they have an outdoor bar waiting area for people who haven't been seated yet. All of the servers wear masks (properly too!). It was wonderful hearing live music again, and the vibe of the whole place is very cute. The food was delicious (especially the dessert, I got the Ice Box Smores one and it was phenomenal). They also have vegetarian options with mushrooms, although they are limited. Overall, if you are looking for a safe dining experience with a great ambiance and comfort food, I highly recommend it! This is such a cool bar! It's HUGE! Didn't believe a bar this big could be in downtown Houston. It has a great atmosphere as well. I was not happy at all about their drinks. I got a "double" deep eddies with sprite. It was one of the smallest drinks I've ever had- double or single. It was very weak as well. This is my go to drink so i know when it is truly a double. I finished it in 5 sips. I got my bill and the drink was $20! I could not believe it. I called over the manager and she was very rude. She didn't change the price and told me I should've gotten a beer instead because they're cheaper. I do have to say the servers we had were great! They checked on us constantly and felt really bad about the price of the drink. If you go here, make sure not to get hard alcohol! read more

This spot is super cute with great music, food and awesome headliners. One of my girlfriends and I came here the other night to grab a bite and a drink. When we walked in the place you are immediately greeted by wonderful customer service from the front hostess stand and the rush of live music from the stage. I liked the set up of the place, you have the option of sitting outside at a bar or inside at a larger bar as well, the patio portion is dog friendly but the night we came it was very cold, I'm already planning on coming back a warmer day! The location is great, it's about 3 minutes from my place and has valet parking available for guest. Food took a long time to come out which I didn't understand because the place was not packed and when we got there it appeared that folks around us had already eaten and were just sitting around drinking, so I assumed our food would not taken long to come out. The bartender was nice and prompt with service and great conversationalist, we did however have some drunk guys come into the bar and sit directly next/basically super close to me. I was trying to be polite however the bartender noticed how close the guy was to me and a manager was called over BY our bartender to kindly asked the gentlemen if they were okay and basically tried to ease the situation and make me feel comfortable. Place looked very nice for the little time we were inside. Acoustics and sound were great from the musician on the stage. We came after a concert at the Warehouse to get some food. We asked the host if they were still serving food and she said yes we had like 15 minutes to order. So we were sat down and quickly ran through the menu so we could order quick but then a server came to us and said they were closing the kitchen and could only order drinks. So we left. Could have just told us that when we asked and would have happily moved on elsewhere. read more

I came Friday (their first night open to the public) with a friend. We were seated immediately and our servers were friendly and knowledgeable. I haven't been to the other Rustic locations so my review is a complete first impression. Location: The venue is HUGE- the space was obviously built for concerts. The indoor area is tiered into a main floor, a middle area, and the upper bar overlooking it all. On Friday, there were tables set up everywhere with a small dance floor. There's also an outdoor space off to the side. It's close to Minute Maid and Toyota Center so I can see myself coming here after downtown events. There is valet parking. Food: we ordered the queso and tamales three ways. The queso ($9) was served with pimento cheese and potato chips. A little weird, honestly. I would have preferred chips and salsa. The tamales three ways were flavorful and the portion was generous although no sides are included. Drinks: we ordered the margarita, frozen Moscow mule, and well drinks. The margarita was STRONG and they served it with a popsicle which was cute. The Moscow mule ($11) was yummy (could have used more ginger). My single well vodka soda was perfect (and only $6). Atmosphere: since it was opening night, I don't think I can be a fair judge- there were some technical issues with the musicians microphone and nobody was dancing. It felt much more like a "restaurant with music" than a "music hall with food". I'll update my review when I come back another time. read more

Onion rings- Delicious. Salmon Burger- YUM-MY. Pineapple Smoke Margarita...just what you need for a stressful day. But my visit became phenomenal when we began the dessert critique. I love banana pudding, but there was none available. My friend and I opted to try the S'more dessert. Bad decision. It does not taste like a S'more. Good, but not a S'More. I wish I could post two different ratings for The Rustic, one for the venue and one for the food. We went on a Friday night to enjoy dinner and some live Texas Country Music. They have valet for $10 or will validate parking passes for a nearby garage, so parking is convenient. We arrived around 7:45 and didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. Dinner was good, but I wouldn't go there solely for the food. It was upscale bar food but a bit overpriced - our shrimp cocktail only had 4 shrimp in it. We moved to the bar area ($10 margarita and $6 beer) after dinner, and really enjoyed the live music. There were plenty of different seating options, good set up for lots of different groups of people. It's a fun place to hang out, and would be great for a large group, plus a perfect patio for nice weather. read more

We've been to the Rustic previously, but never had better service. Christen was training with David and it was hard to tell who was training whom. They were both EXTREMELY knowledgeable in regard to both the drink and food menu and were extremely attentive. They had an energy that was inviting and mesmerizing. Nice place. I was glad to finally try it out. However there were a few things that placed it on the bottom of the list to go back to. Cons- Parking. They validate three hour parking for a garage that a couple blocks away. Yay, free downtown parking! but you literally pass up a parking garage that is much closer. Setting. I didn't realize every where you sit was basically outside - they need more fans. Pros- Drinks. Seems like a good place for a good time as a group. Entertainment. There were performers throughout our time and that was nice to experience. Food. The food was a hit and a miss. but i would put it under the pros because there were more good than bad. We decided to try this place out on Labor Day weekend and it SUCKED.... The waiter was being such a Bi&@$. Every time we wanted to order something we had to get her attention because she wouldn't come to take our order. Not only that, they didn't have any music. They had the news. Like who the hell wants to watch the news while they are out trying to have a Good time. Right when we decided that we've had enough, we tried to get her attention several times to pay and she never came around. I had to get up and go tell her to close us out...
