Ordered the rustic burger it was pretty good would have preferred for the meat to have been medium like I asked it came out well done the pickles were amazing though I would definitely ask for extra on the side. For drinks I ordered the spicy margarita and was not a fan it was way too tart. Okay first off I understand it was crowded and there was a Queen concert the night I dropped by; however, cleaning off the counter at the bar seems like a basic requirement that was missed. The staff behind the bar was very friendly and the service quick given the crowd but the counter was disgusting and the menu was sticky and dirty. First impression not so good. The porter was tasty, a brew out of San Antonio and the veggie burger (messy) was good. The potato chips were not crispy and lacked salt so skip those if given the choice. I did go by myself and sit at the bar so I couldn't speak to any other part of the restaurant. I was also a little disappointed at the lack of obvious veggie options in the menu. I didn't ask because it was so crowded and quite loud so there may have been off menu options I missed. I'll give them a try the next time I'm in Houston but my first impression leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Mixed review here. ... Absolutely stunning facility. Truly rustic, wide open interior including bar, standard seating and event space with stage which must certainly make for great weekend live entertainment. Loved everything about this place as I was walking in, walking around and even in the ladies room! Fantastic! Then we come to service and food, and here is the flip side of this coin... Quick explanation to say that I had a job at the George R Brown Convention Center that was quick move in Monday, show open Tuesday and move out Tuesday afternoon. My labor crew did a bang up job and got my booth down in 4 hours which totally earned them a mid afternoon lunch/ drinks. Four of us. Nice menu options, nice drink and beer options. The menu is well thought out including southern items and Texas inspired options and local beers as well as standard, and craft. Texas spirit options on the menu were also a nice touch. Shout out for some of nicest glass wear I have seen in a long time, that is not a fine dining establishment. I ordered the drunk chicken - which was game hen beer can bird. Only problem was that this game hen must have been made days in advance but was propped up on a beer can as if to give the impression it was just made. Bird was shriveled, cold to touch and cold to taste, and even better - tasteless! Service was intermittent - not steady. Our wait person would appear and disappear for long a long period of time - when you actually needed a wait person. When she finally came around after about 35 minutes, I did ask for another option. At this point the other diners were finished. Tacos were on the menu - but as an option for two persons. . However the lunch menu did have an option for one. We were in between lunch and dinner because it was about 4 PM. I asked if she could do the option of tacos for one and it was an absolutely not. Honestly, at this point I was full from eating the pimento cheese (that was a fantastic starter, and potato salad that came with someone else's meal, (which was also delicious) but good service would have maybe made an exception and offered a taco for one. Just a thought. I read several other reviews on YELP, and there seems to be a general consensus that service is lacking at this establishment. As it is perfectly located by the GRB for client dinners, team meetings and or dinners or receptions for the many, many businesses that come in and out of here for a show - I would ask that they revisit the way in which the wait staff is trained. This is a gem of a venue but with poor service, it is a pass. YELP reviews do matter, and are read by those who travel for work, and are charged with finding the great places to impress clients and this has the opportunity to be just that but change is required to make that happen. read more

Went to the Rustic in downtown Houston. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Our server was Denis and he was great. He was very attentive but he didn't hover. He made several recommendations that we followed. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. They have live music, Thursday to Sunday evenings. We will definitely be returning, maybe even tonite. read more

My food food was amazing, the drinks were wonderful, the live music was incredibly entertaining and we all had a wonderful time! The place feels very "backyard get together" and I love that! My only complaint is you have to pay for parking, not expensive but it's something to note, and the food options were more limited than I originally thought. It was very hard for me to find something that I thought I would like and when I did, I was told that you can't order what I wanted (tacos) for one, you had to order it by the double (two servings) which would make it almost $40 so if somebody hadn't been willing to split that with me there wouldn't have been anything on the menu that I was interested in eating. Once the food came out, it was wonderful but trying to find something to eat was difficult and I don't understand why I couldn't order one serving of tacos and why they have to sell it in two servings. read more

If you haven't been, your missing out! This place has live music, great food and drinks so what more can you ask for in a venue. We started with the tamales, avocado salad, deviled eggs and onion rings. I would have to say the tamales are some of the best I've ever had, not dry and full of flavor. The avocado salad had jicama in it which gives its that perfect level of crunch and paired perfectly with the tamales I would highly recommend the combo. The onion rings are more of onion curls and not very crunchy so they weren't my favorite. For entrées, I had the triple bone in pork chop with their jalapeño corn cake and the Bf had their steak with French fries both were delicious and perfectly cooked Service was also great, food and drinks came out fast. If you're in the Houston area I would definitely take the time to come by and check this place out read more

The food was great. The service was awful. They asked for a card to open a tab at 3pm. Sat at bar ordered food. No happy hour menu provided. No utensils for food or plates for appetizers. Kept card for tab without telling us and we completely forgot and thought the card was lost. One of our food items never came out, asked for it to be removed only to find out it was never removed. Asked for check and it also never came, asked again. Then asked another person and they finally brought it. Just horrible customer service. Or also, the hostesses are clueless and laugh at you when they tell you there's only room outside to sit. Just really terrible customer service here. Will try different location next time. read more

I wish there was one closer to where I live, fun place to come in, enjoy so,e drinks and live music. Place is very big with lots of seating. Poor service on a Sunday. We called ahead to ask about party sizes on a Sunday day given it's first come first serve. They informed us the whole party would have to be present in order to be in queue to be seated and 1.5 hours laters we are still waiting. Bigger parties who were here before are taking their time which is understandable, but smaller tables that could've accommodated our party size (14) didn't happen. They seated about three small tops and didn't bother to update the group as we had to walk up to the host stand 4 times to get an update. Moral of this story: bad service on part of the host stand. Bar is great and food is good. Come in a small party. However, I commend the bar for taking great care of us while we were waiting for some type of accommodation. I had seen and head about the Rustic many times. It is hard to miss their huge sign when you drive downtown. We were excited to eat here when we had friends in town for dinner. I can't tell if I just have different taste buds or this place was overhyped.... maybe it was just an off night here. But our entertainment started so late which was a shame because it seemed to be good music. I shared the choose your own taco plate with a friend. It wasn't bad but nothing to write home about either. I felt the menu was sort of limited and had some odd options. Drinks were decent. I will try this place again to give it another shot. read more

Visited in August 2020 (sorry it took awhile) We only ordered the banana pudding to-go BUT it was one of the best desserts I have had in a long time!! It was perfect poolside. Rich, creamy, and delicious! Order your own because this is too good to share. Restaurant had music and a great vibe! Need to go back soon for date night or family dinner. I hate leaving reviews like this but it is meant for information. I like to read others experiences and opinions, I never just look at the number of stars a business has but rather read the reviews then decide for myself .... so... the food is good, that's important to note. However, we had the brunch on Sunday, $16.95 per person which is fine, no issue with that. The problem lies in the amount of food you get for that. I do not eat much so a buffet makes a lot of money from me. This was a very small sampling of the offerings. When I say small, I mean small. Three of us ordered, it's family style which I have eaten at many places, where you are usually able to order more of the item (or items) you like. That's how "family style" works. But nope, we ordered more chicken and grits (because each of us got a very small piece of chicken and one small triangle of grits), and they charged us three more orders of each. (Pictured). And the waiter. Nice (i guess, sort of) but extremely uninformative and inattentive. We had to ask for literally everything, refills, etc. and he never once explained the "brunch", he just said that's all we have today and one or two menu items. He acted like he was in another world. Also when we "ordered more" chicken and grits, we assumed an order was just what they brought for the "brunch". The "manager" was supposed to comp two of the extras once we told him we didn't mean to order three orders. We only wanted the amount they brought for three people to start with. But alas', he/she didn't. So I complained, reluctantly, and then it was taken care of. I also informed the waiter that there should be better communication with the customers. We had no idea how it worked and wasn't told. I asked to speak to a manager but never got a chance. As a business owner, I think communication is always beneficial. Since I could not speak to management, I am sharing here. We will probably return but definitely not for brunch. And with all the places to go, it would not be my first choice. Nothing spectacular enough unless you enjoy the entertainment (which is nice). read more

Pretty bummed there's zero vegan options outside one salad with nothing really in it. Most places in Houston has at least one or more mains that are vegetarian / vegan friendly. I got tickets to see Adam Melchor, but I'm giving them away since there's nothing for our group to eat. This place is really nice and huge on the inside. My first impression was how awesome it would be for live shows. Than sure enough, a guy was playing the guitar and singing. The food was ok, not great. I got a chicken sandwich and it said cheddar cheese. It came with a slice of kraft American. Def didn't add any value and would have rather kept that off. Came here for a work team lunch (there were 15 of us ). We were greeted warmly by the hostesses and promptly shown to our table. The ambiance of The Rustic is pretty cool a la Texas Country meets urban cowboy. Our server, Alex, was polite and expedient getting our drink orders and never letting them become empty. We ordered a sampling of starters: Texas Goat Cheese, Salt 'N' Pepper Deviled Eggs, Double Queso (the pimento cheese dip was really good). I opted for the Texas Quail; a molasses-brined bandera quail with jalapeño spoon bread and chipotle pecan sauce. The quail was delicious! I could've eaten two more on top of the two served. Succulent and perfectly prepared. I'm definitely going to have to come back to this place on a weekend to scope out the live music! read more

I have become a regular guest recently not only because the food is phenomenal but because the superb service outmatches any other restaurant in the area. I never have to wait long for a drink and Tony's infectious smile and comedic personality are really a vibe and make the atmosphere that much more enjoyable. He makes his job look so effortlessly easy and all of the guests enjoy his time. I would say he's hands down one of the best bartenders in Houston, ask for his signature Mexican Candy shot! Tony is an asset to the team and I hope to see him on my many future visits to come! By the way, if you have time for dessert the peanut butter pie is to die for. read more

We had dinner at the Rustic for Fathers Day and it was a great venue. Even though it Was hot tonight the fans and AC kept this unique indoor/ outdoor venue comfortable. D Angelo was a great server and very friendly and fun. The beers were cold and the foot hot. The fried Cactus bites were great. My wife called them like eating fried aloe Vera but I enjoyed the taste, texture and unique flavor. The dipping sauce was spicy and added the needed heat. The hot chicken sandwich is a nice blend of grilled cheese and crispy fried chicken. The 3 Tamales was very different and had a modern twist to a Tex mix classic. I would recommend it after a game at minute maid or on a cool fall night with a band in the back ground. Great for groups and kids a like.
