My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this bar randomly and were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it. We went around 3 pm and it was almost empty. The staff person was so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Pimento cheese and crackers: I'm a big fan of the baked crackers. The cheese was just enough for all the crackers they served. Paloma: delicious, definitely getting it again Fries: before we even knew it was vegan ranch we were talking about how much we wanted to drizzle it on everything. It's seriously SO delicious. The fries were fresh and tasty. The decor was 10/10. Even during the day you could tell it would be a laid back and vibey place at night. Even the bathroom was a party. My husband, best friend and I decided to check it out when my best friend was in town. Gone twice now and I think I'll add it to my rotation of my favorite bars and hang out spots! There is so much to love about this place! Ambiance/patrons: the place is very chic and comforting. The colors are bright but not alarming. It's a small place but they have outdoor seating as well so it wasn't hard to find a seat either time. The people might've been my favorite part. It is a queer spot that looks mainly like a lesbian/afab place but obviously they are welcoming to all! Being queer myself it was very friendly in a way gay male bars don't usually have and I enjoyed that I felt safe and comfortable in that way. My friends and I talked to some strangers both times so again both the staff and customers give this place some great vibes! Drinks: *they do not serve cocktails or well drinks*. They have wines, beers, ciders, and an array of non alcoholic drinks. I had their cider of the day which I enjoyed and had a canned cider as well. The drinks aren't anything too out of the ordinary for any other place but they get the job done lol Food: THE FOOD! I only had one thing BUT I would go back JUST FOR THE FOOD based on the one dish. I had the loaded cheese fries I believe they're called, which according to my friend had a Swiss take on it with the type of melted cheese they had. It was so so good! I was actually surprised! Very few times do I say a place could charge more for something and this is it. Those fries could cost $20 at least but they were $15 which was a good deal. The bowl is deep so there was also a decent amount. Perfect to share! Location: it's located on sunset Blvd in the silver lake area. It's a decent area with a lot of trendy shops and restaurants. It's also located in a shopping area so it's not directly on the sidewalk which allows for some needed distance from the street. Overal I have to say I really enjoyed this place. If you're looking for a chill lowkey bar that's sapphically inclined and simultaneously feels like a party with 100 of your closest friends inside of a closet- then this is the spot for you! This restaurant belongs here. This is the most ironic place I happened to walk into, and why wouldn't it be, it's Silver Lake. I came in because the thrift store wasn't open yet and I saw they had happy hour all day, remembering today is Monday. It's actually only a dollar off the original price but oh well. Went here yesterday for a drink and sat down at the bar. 30 min go by all good had my drink and snack fries. Then when this man in a black shirt and apron, (I'm assuming he was a server assistant). He takes the order to the girl that was sitting next to me and then all of a sudden, he snatched my menue from me and gave it to her. Me and the girl looked at each other puzzled as we both picked up on his passive aggressive behavior. I then asked him to give it back to me, he begrudgingly gives it back to me. I had so much fun watching the World Cup with my lesbian crew yesterday. The TV was on- it was hard to see from outside but if you bring a tablet for outside then your all set. The Ruby Fruit is not only the worst lesbian bar I've been to, it's the worst bar I've been to period. It feels homophobic that the only lesbian bar in los angeles is so bad. Lesbians only go there out of the novelty of it being the "only" lesbian bar. The business tried to survive on that title alone and didn't offer anything else. I see more lesbians at Ye Rustic, which is way more welcoming and inclusive than the Ruby Fruit could ever be. This is the first one star review I've given and I feel bad because it's someone's dream, but they need to wake up. I hope whoever opened this bar takes the criticism and learns from it. How are you a wine bar with the worst wine selection I've ever experienced? I've gone wine tasting at the Ruby Fruit, and none of them tasted good. And there's only, what, 3 options? Everywhere else has better wines. There's only two beers on the menu too and one of them tastes like oregano. It was disgusting. The beer they serve is like a joke Fox News would make about the type of beer lesbians drink. There are so many breweries and wineries nearby they could source from and just didn't. They could keep their mission of local wines or whatever and give us better options. It doesn't have to be trash. The food is awful too and the menu options are limited. The food is so expensive and so bad and dry. You're a wine bar but you couldn't even give us something yummy?? Where are the dates stuffed with cheese? Good breadsticks? At least the fries were okay. The service was also horrible. I can't imagine how staff is treated, because the owners are incredibly rude. I have given this place three chances and every time I was treated so horribly by the owners and staff. No one has ever been so rude to me for supporting their business. And to be treated like that by other lesbians? Disappointing at the least. I don't know if they hate butches or what, but any masculine presenting person I have talked to has had an awful experience there. Staff seems to only like you if you're femme and white. And if you are femme and white, they might like you too much. The space isn't inclusive at all. The bars in my conservative hometown are more welcoming and diverse. The Ruby Fruit has awful hours too. They'd be open during slow times and wonder why they weren't getting business. It worked more as an event space than a wine bar. The interior isn't great but they made do with a small space. The location was nice, I pass it every time I'm bar hopping with friends, but I am never compelled to go in. Even if I wanted to, they're closed past 10pm. I really hate The Ruby Fruit. It is the worst bar I have ever been to. It sucks at being a wine bar and is even worse as a lesbian bar. I can't believe what a great place this is! The vibe was friendly, warm, inviting, and just had a general happiness to the crowd. For as packed as it was, I never waited for more than a few minutes? The bartender was amazingly quick and attentive and the food came out super fast as well. We had the bread, olives, oysters, and fish dip and all were delicious! This is a great spot to catch up with friends and mingle. Right around the time my group was taking off, karaoke started, which usually is really not my thing (I have heard enough drunk renditions of Sweet Caroline for this lifetime), but honestly, everyone was bringing it and it felt like a little party! What a queer bar!!! Omggggg it was soooo refreshing to be at this new queer / lesbian space! Finally a queer gal space opens up. The first of its kind. The first in a LONG LONG time!!! This place was slammed with queer gals wanting to try the new spot in Silverlake. This is literally the only queer gal space in Los Angeles let alone Silverlake. We didn't mind that it was packed. It was packed with queer gals! It's a new spot, it was so wonderful! Ruby Fruit is a dim lighted (but perfectly dim) wine bar / restaurant with delicious bites. Hand selected wine (there's gotta be something here because we had 3 bottles and there was a feminine feature to each of them). We ordered the crudités + dip, the bread service and the olives and each dish was sooo delightful. Every single one of these menu items seemed like they would pair perfectly with wine. We loved it! We had 3 bottles of wine for 4 of us and we probably would have stayed later but at the moment they're only open until 11pm. I'm not going to give this spot 4 stars just because they're only open until 11pm but I think everyone could agree we wish they were open later! More highlights : Purple hallway that leads to the restroom. Art and floral mementos leading you there. Indigo Girls themed bathroom / also very well lit and serene (playing indigo girls even though the rest of the bar playing something different) Music inside Ruby Fruit playing 90s hits.. hoping this is an all the time thing, great music selection This spot was poppin and the service was immaculate! Everyone that waited on us was super kind, sweet, attentive and seemed so stoked to be working there and to be a part of this new hangout. Free parking in the parking lot (in certain spaces), it's in a plaza and some spots are not marked but you do have to look and see what's open but still, the spots are there otherwise there's street parking. Art seems carefully selected and so contributing to the overall queer gal vibe. Outdoor seating/ standing area until you wait to sit inside. Right now, if they're busy... you could stand outside / sit and someone will take your order. You can gradually move inside once tables open... they will assist with this. The owner was helping with this and she had a great system! Owner is SUPER nice and has the best energy! The biggest stand out was the vibe as I have mentioned. It was amazing to be in a space like this. My only recommendation is somehow they can strive to stay open later because this is if not already... going to be the number 1 place to be if you're a queer gal in Los Angeles. I've been here twice. The first time with high hopes and the second time with much lower expectations. Both visits weren't great. I'm glad there's a gay lady bar in LA, it's such an untapped market, I just wish The Ruby Fruit wasn't it. The parking is a nightmare and the place is small, like I get it, if you want to stay in business it's best to have a smaller space that's easier to pack to the gills, but it's poorly set up and if you don't get there right when they open you won't get a seat. At least, that's how it's been the times I've been there. The food is wholly unremarkable. The first time my friends and I were excited to get the curly fries but were given crinkle cut, and when we called it out we were dismissed by the staff. The bread and butter is fine but when I was asked if I also wanted olive oil I was like sure, not expecting it to be a multiple dollar extra charge on the bill for a dollop of oil. The drinks are also ridiculously overpriced. The Miller Low Life, which is an amazing name, is nothing more than a Miller High Life with a float of vermouth. For $12 (or something insane like that)... I could get a twelve pack of MHL for that price. They try hard but honestly miss the mark often. As a member of the LGBT community really wanting a place like this it bums me out that I never want to go. Perhaps though these high markups and shoulder to shoulder seating are why it's still open at all though. But some people like it. So there's always that! read more

New Lesbian bar, craft cocktail lounge, silverlake eat and drinkery. Great owners and great people- go support! LA has now gone from 0 to 1 lesbian bars and the girls have showed up in droves. This strip mall placed bar doesn't even have a sign above the restaurant yet (if ever?) yet many passer-bys come to take a look at the large crowds that gather outside. The craft cocktails are amazing, the wine is good, and there's beer on the menu for those inclined that way. The snacks are creating a buzz of their own (the daytime food photos are not mine- credit the rubyfruit on IG) The fries were a great portion for 2 and came with a great aioli and ketchup. Tip: if you want a table or have more than 2 in your party I recommend coming on the early side of the evening! The servers are very accommodating and manage the crowds and seating really well. The setup is conducive to talking and making new friends. The best touch is the le labo candle burning in the bathroom. There's beautiful decor throughout the walls and cute low lighting. However, today must have been an off day at the Ruby Fruit. We arrived at 5:30, it was not busy, but immediately got the vibe that we were just not welcome. The staff seemed inconvenienced when we asked for ice for our warm drinks. The fries were pretty much raw, the hotdog was barely warm. I can't help but feel that this was intentional. The staff just didn't seem to care about anything. For the price of the food and drinks the service should be on point and the food cooked. Went here with my friend last week to find a sapphic safe space to just catch up and unwind. The vibe is chill, the space is small, but cozy. We had to stand at the bar for about 10 mins but eventually people got up and we got a seat. The staff is super sweet and personable, best vibes. I got a virgin moscow mule: loved it. They have ginger beer, but not a liquor license! Just be aware of that! I didn't order food but my friend got the pork belly I believe and it was way bigger than she could finish- but delicious nonetheless! I was discouraged from bringing cis male friends here in the past, and now having gone with a fellow queer girl friend, I totally get it. If you bring cis men, tell them not to leave the seat up in the bathroom- that is aggressive as hell. Also cis male energy can really take up space, so if they come here, make sure to make them aware of that because it's not a large space to begin with, and it's just easy to overwhelm the energy of this safe cozy space. Also: never tip less than 20% no matter what, but in general, that's just fair. People in the service industry work hard, be a decent human. Parking lot can be tricky, but if you're willing to wait it out, you can snag a spot in the plaza. Just read all signs, always! read more

The tuna sando is chicken of the sea on top of stale bread with a lot of oil, so disgusting I wouldn't feed it to my do and it's $16!! I observed the owners being nasty to customers & even yelling at some as they feel entitled to treat customers like they are beneath them. Just know that no locals go here because of the HATE they show their patrons and the disrespect they shown the neighborhood. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE UNLESS YOU WANT TO CATCH IT!! Has been in my bookmarks as soon as it opened and I finally got to go!!! I loved how attentive the servers were and the overall atmosphere of this place. It's a tad intimate, but if u see a seat, go ahead and grab it (just ask nicely first). I honestly have no complaints about this restaurant, friendly patrons/servers and the ideal place for non-men to truly feel safe. Despite everything I've seen on social media about the target demographic, it was pleasantly one of the most racially diverse places I've been to in LA as a Black lesbian (we were the majority , at least during brunch hours). Aside from my gushing over this place, the food was incredible and reasonably priced. I ordered the gabagool (butchered that lol) with an iced coffee and my date ordered the m.e.c. And LOVED it. My only issue with the sandwich I ordered is the bread was a bit big/tall? Not even an issue though because the flavour was there and they can't control what the baker's do. P.S. The owners have always been super nice with us but their server is absolutely atrocious and has zero hospitality skills whatsoever. My Galpal and I came in when the bar was completely empty with absolutely no one in the bar during a peek sales day and we asked the server for information about the wines listed on the menu and she replies " so what? You want me to explain each thing on the menu ? Sure." There are literally only about 4 options yes we want you to explain the flavor profile of each wine listed it's not like you're busy or have anything to do because there's literally no one else here but us. Server also failed to inform us it was happy hour until one of the owners reminded us as we were about to consider leaving because she wanted to make that sale. This vile rude server cannot be even bothered with pitching a happy hour sale (which is her job - esp considering the bar was DEAD empty) she came to our table with her face cramped up aggressively looking at us with disgust each time as if we were an inconvenience. The experience honestly felt very racist and disappointing and with a worker like this it should be no wonder why the bar is empty and why this bar is closing yet again. We watched another lesbian couple walk in and walk right out immediately because of her that night also. We still tipped (15%) which is honestly more than what she deserved. We ended up going to Melody wine bar afterwards which was a much needed boost in the night to make up for this dreadful experience.
