We walk in and the place is beautifully done inside! Chill ambiance, nice materials, cool tile and artwork . We chose a booth, but there were plenty of seating options on a Sunday earlyish evening. The menu? Whoa! Wtf in a great way!!!! They explain the science behind how they create every elixir aaaand how they are so sustainable! #1 sustainable bar in North America and apparently #24 of top 50 bars in North America! We tried the: Fu Gwaa Falsetto: SO cool! They used a bitter melon, which is hard to include in things, and made a dope drink! The sprinkles on top were my fave and tied the drink together. Koji Killer: dessert drink for sure, but I kinda needed a second one delicious! Barcelonette: refreshing, light, lovely P Town Boxing Club: a little disappointed that I couldn't taste the pandan as much, didn't get as much of a distinct flavor Hops Don't Lie: canned, refreshing, my partner like it! The servers/bartenders were so cool and knowledgeable about the menu, they even brought us samples and let us know if we didn't like something they'd replace it! And did! Will definitely be back to try more concoctions

I went on a Monday, right after they opened at 5 pm, it already people sitting at the bar. The crowd was very chill, very typical Echo Park low-key characters, quite a few seemed to know the staff well. The food and drinks were all fine to me, I had a couple old fashions, my girlfriend had a specialty drink with brunt orange something, she liked it. We tried the chicken thighs, fried green tomatoes, and the chicken biscuit. They all were good, my only issue, the chicken biscuit item is not served on a biscuit like I was thinking , its just on a sandwich bun essentially. Overall, I would go again maybe on a Friday or Saturday night to see the difference, if any of the crowd and vibe.

Diverse, alive, a little funky, a little loud, and full of that NOLA energy. The vibe just feels right. And the food? Chef Marcus is FROM New Orleans, and you can tell. He brings it. The flavors are there, the personality is there, and the whole idea behind this place works. More importantly, the execution works too. Great, fun food that makes you want to hang around, order another plate, have another drink, and stay awhile. Speaking of drinks--the full bar will make you pretty much whatever you want...or whatever you need. But what really makes Evangeline's special is the people. Natalie is an absolute ray of sunshine and always takes care of us. Shaggy is one kind, attentive human being. And Castro seems to hold the whole thing down. It feels less like walking into a restaurant and more like walking into a neighborhood spot where people are genuinely happy you showed up. And a BIG thank you for opening early for the Saints games! The WHO DAT crowd is showing up, and having a little piece of New Orleans in Chinatown on game day is something special. WHO DAT! Marcus and Eunah--merci beaucoup, che che, and gracias. You created something with soul. Come here. Eat. Drink. Say hello. Watch a Saints game. Meet some good people. Let Natalie bless you with her special drinks and smile! Then stay longer than you planned. That's Evangeline's Swamp Room.

The bartenders are down to earth--real true south attitude (not the fake southern charm kind but the "I've got your back and will kick it in the dirt when you're down and cheers you when you're up" kind) It's New Orleans "themed" but truly a wonderful addition and neighborhood spot for all the Chinatown and east LA residents. Big plus: It's never hard to find parking. Definitely worth the trip or stop on by!

We got the Poet's Dream for $16 and El Camino for $16. Both drinks were really strong and tasted pretty good. The El Camino was very similar to an old fashioned. Felt the drinks were good for the price. They start the music at 10pm. There a line forming outside by 10pm. They let people upstairs shortly after the music started. We were able to sit on the couch upstairs. The place got packed really fast. Unfortunately, it got really hot. We left at 11:30pm and saw that the line reached the Hill Street.

(A lot of thought went into the acoustics & speaker system.) This chic establishment serves up European-inspired small plates, and their cocktail program melds inspiration with a respect for classic structure. The sultry pulsating bass lines that ooze through the speakers set the tone for a chilled vibe, and the tropical motifs provide an escape from reality. It's a great spot to relax and catch a game or hang with friends, which I did. I met some of my favorite Yelp peeps here for Sunday Brunch. We received a warm & friendly welcome from Rasheeda (bartender). She was darling, as was our server, Mason. They were both fantastic. We settled into the cozy couches tucked in the corner and ordered several dishes to share: Hummus, Prosciutto Panino, Eggplant Panino, Mediterranean Eggs, Green Shakshuka, & Fries. Drinks consisted of: Nitro Cold Brew, Bloody Mary, Age of Aquarius, & a Lavender Gimlet. The fries were tossed with rosemary salt and came with garlic aioli & ketchup. They were addicting & delicious. My Lavender Gimlet did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed their selections, and we had a great time together. This was the perfect meet up spot. I'm looking forward to coming back. *Street parking (can be tricky.) Metered parking across the street. *Happy Hour 2 pm - 6 pm daily & all-day Monday.
