I don't really remember how I found out about this place, but I wish I had found out sooner! I got hot dogs and root beer to go once just before they closed for the season, and I'm looking forward to getting more of the root beer once it opens back up. My boyfriend and I weren't really excited about the hot dogs we got, but the root beer was worth the trip. The place itself is cute ... hats hanging everywhere, people hanging out at the counter (because, really, there's not much room in there except to sit at the counter). The root beer float was great. The floor was covered with a nasty heavily trodden carpet with terrible stains on it. On top of that there was shredded cheese and chips and food laying all over the floor. Had it been cleaner I would have liked it better. The smell was rank too. It had a vent cover on the ceiling that looked as if it had never been cleaned. It made me wonder how the rest of the restaurant was kept up. I was looking for nostalgia but I just kept looking for a clean place to put my feet. Maybe it's not like that all the time cause there sure were a lot of people in there. I have lived in the area for 10 years but just made my first visit yesterday. While they were crowded, the food was ready quickly. Was shocked they don't do french fries but it wasn't a problem. The food quality was good as was the service and root beer. We had burgers and foot long hot dogs. The only complaint was the foot longs needed to be cooked a little longer. Not a big deal though. I love this place. My family has been going here for what seems like 40 years. I myself was maybe 3 for my first trip over 30 years ago. Traditions like this last over decades when the food is good, the rootbeer is the best you can find and the owner/staff are great. It is a staple in our summer routines and we are lucky to have this gem around. Check it out if you haven't. We love the chili dogs and rootbeer floats. Then take home a gallon so you can make it through till your next visit. I wish I could give it more stars. We are counting down till opening day when I will take my nephew. I would argue that I am a root beer connoisseur. Root Beer Stand is better than most, but not the best. Their root beer stands out as not too sweet with just the amount of bitterness. It's the perfect place for a summertime classics with a mug of root beer and a burger. But I would just stick to the root beer. read more

Cash only is important to know because a lot of people don't care as much anymore. Pretty sure the people working at the time were high school students. I have been going here since I was a kid in the mid-60s. I have always loved the hot dogs and root beers. It's always crowded, but I managed to get my food and drinks in a timely manner. Lately, something has changed. The hot dogs just don't taste the same. When they open opened this season things were like they've always been. Now suddenly, the hot dogs don't taste too good. It won't be long before others discover the same thing I did. You shouldn't have messed with the recipe or your suppliers. It's not always about money. read more

It says something about a restaurant in today's world where they ONLY take cash, and yet still stay packed. There isn't a lot of seating, but there's also not much space they could expand the seating area if they wanted to. To be honest, expanding and updating isn't really their focus. This place is steeped in the same nostalgic feel that it had when I went there as a kid, and I still return every year with my kids. The Root Beer stand serves root beer. It is very good root beer. If you like root beer, there's a good chance you'll love it. I've had a number of friends who don't care for root beer who've said they really enjoyed this root beer. They make their own root beer; this is not an A&W. Outside of the root beer, the food is pretty standard hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream; just small-town creamy whip food, so don't show up expecting gourmet. The staff is young kids, so they make mistakes on the orders, but they're generally friendly and make it right if you're not too uptight. Outside of the limited seating inside issue, the place is great for kids. There's little mugs and straws cut in half for smaller appetites. They have picnic tables and a playground out back. Personally, I enjoy the root beer in the glass mugs, and they don't let you take those outside (also, if you want a root beer float, they don't put those in glass because it's harder to clean). They keep some little toys above the counter to entertain, and if you really want to play with that one where someone else is sitting, just ask; the customers are generally friendly people too. So, bottom line: bring cash, expect root beer, and show up with some friends and split a pitcher because it's freaking three bucks. Maybe you can even splurge on popcorn and let the kids go play on the swingset. read more

The Root Beer Stand is on the Cincinnati bucket list and tonight we checked it off the list. A warm welcome to this tiny hut, with fun games to play while you eat (because there was nearly no wait). The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and kind to my son...which I always count as a bonus! The food was good, but the ambiance and experience is more of what makes this find special! I went to The Root Beer Stand and placed my to go order at the main center counter. While waiting for my order, this very tall blondish guy walks out of the kitchen with blue gloves on, and grabs dirty used food wrappers and dirty used glass mugs. He then compacted the garbage down with these same blue gloved hands. He then returns to the kitchen, with these same gloves on, and starts wrapping freshly prepared foot longs, burgers, and other sandwiches. The Food Inspector needs to get here yesterday. I notified the girl that took my order to cancel my order. I explained to the girl what happened, and she stated that he was the owner. You have got to be kidding me. I thought to myself, this guy is making dozens of people sick every single day. I immediately left and 3 other customers followed me out the door. It is a shame. I've been coming here since I was a very small child...and it has always been consistently incredible. The chili is probably the best chili for a coney EVER! I've tried to make it at home, and I can never get it...it's incredible!! Then, there's the root beer...THE root beer. Cold, smooth, perfect. Amazing taste that makes pretty much everything right with the world the second you take that first sip. Even though there are many things on the menu that (thankfully) stay the same, they have some new additions that are really good and compliment the menu very well!! With all the change and progress, I hope someone will always honor the value this place brings to Cincinnati and let it stay and serve that root beer perfection and those delicious coneys until Ohio falls into the ocean. read more

I've only had the chili dogs, so other food may be different, but they seem like any other chili dog you'd get at a similar establishment, so basically good but not great.
