POV: You're finishing your coffee at your favorite breakfast spot and a stranger steals your coffee Okay so. We have been going to The Rooster in Naples for YEARS. Years. Long before it was on food network. The food? Immaculate. Never once had an issue. Today? Today changed everything. Our waitress was an angel, no notes, we love her. We're sitting there, happy, sipping our coffee, not even an hour into the meal, barely finished eating, when suddenly a completely different server materializes out of nowhere and just... puts her hands. On the WHOLE top, every inch of the top half of our coffee cups. Mid sip energy. And starts trying to take it. This was our FIRST ever interaction with this woman. First words exchanged. We say, simply: "we are just going to finish our coffees." She hears us. Denies it. And grabs the cups anyway. I look up like excuse me?? And she looks at me, dead in the eye, and goes: "Well aren't you done?" MA'AM. NO. We were NOT done. We hadn't even finished writing the tip on the receipt which, by the way, she then just SNATCHES off the table. Gone. Like a magic trick nobody asked for, and I certainly didn't order. I say, still not finished. And this is where it gets unhinged, because she goes: "well there's a wait." A wait?? For WHAT. There were FOUR tables open inside. EIGHT tables open outside. Not a single soul waiting for a seat. She said it like she was reading off a script from a restaurant that was actually busy, which plot twist it was not. Then, and I need you to picture this, she starts REACHING ACROSS ME. Full arm extension. Into my personal space. Grabbing plates. Grabbing cutlery. I am frozen. I do not know this woman. She does not know me. And yet here we are, inches apart, over a fork. Questioning if I should ask for her last health test results because we are sharing breaths like a horror movie. My companion, sensing the unhingedness of the woman gets up to go find our ACTUAL waitress, the good one, because at this point all we want in this world is to finish our coffee, leave our 30% tip (we were being SO generous, we do not play like that), and say thank you like normal diners. But does the story end there? IT DOES NOT. Because as my companion is trying to talk to our sweet waitress, coffee cup snatcher strikes again and BUTTS IN. Not once. Multiple times. Interrupting my companion mid-sentence, over and over, like she just could not let the woman finish a single thought. Louder. Meaner. Full attitude, unprompted, uninvited, unwell, unhinged. Our actual waitress, bless her, is apologizing over and over, offers us brand new coffees, offers to reseat us like nothing happened. And she was so genuinely kind about it that we almost said yes. Almost. But we were both so shaken by that point that we just... left. And the WILDEST part? This woman was TRAINING someone. Actively. In real time. Passing the torch. The Rooster is that rare gem that incorporates a local business coupled with elevated food, quality and combined with friendly and efficient service. This is a true five star. I went twice within 24 hours because the food was simply delicious. I enjoyed the blackened snapper eggs Benedict. Now I am from Florida so I know good snapper from bad and this was amazing. It was perfectly blackened with a great Cajun flavor and the fish remained succulent. The biscuits here are incredible. Huge and fluffy and tasty. I substitute the hollandaise sauce for their sausage and jalapeño gravy which I think was a pro move!! My second day I enjoyed the fried chicken and waffles. I also had a slice of hummingbird cake. A little hole in the wall located in a strip mall with parking being a little tough. There is a disabled parking space right in front however maybe a litle challenging given the slop of the space. This restaurant is very cozy with limited inside seating, there is additional outdoor seating available. I arrived mid morning and was able to secure a 2 top table indoors again - seating is very close together and you can literally reach over to the next table. Complimentary biscuits are served but we declined - we didnt want to waste food since we do not eat a large breakfast. Our breakfast tab was over $40 and felt it was a bit expensive since we only ordered - the Rooster Waffle, the Two Natural Egg breakfast and 2 beverages. The waffle and egg's are average at best but the noteworthy item was the Hashbrown Tater which is like a Hashbrown muffin and very good. Of course I was brought here by Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and it was amazing. We got seated very quickly, which I was concerned about because the place is on the small side, but no problems. Our server was super fun and friendly. The place is small but very well decorated and there's a lot to look at, which was cool. We ordered the Texas Reuben and a Curried Chicken Salad. The curried chicken was delicious but the Reuben was to die for. It was so delicious. The fries were also incredible. Then we made a very wise decision to try the Hummingbird cake. It was like carrot cake had a baby with a pumpkin roll and that baby weighed 100 pounds! I was so full it hurt but it was a great meal. We even picked up some homemade dog treats! I think I have eaten out at every brunch place in Naples as a dear friend lives there and we meet up for brunch often. So imagine my delight when she says, "let's try the Rooster" which has been on my list for awhile now. We went on a Friday morning. It was a chilly Florida day but given the size of the place we decided to sit outside. Our server was over in a flash suggesting things and then he tells me they don't have a liquor license . . .and just as I was groaning about my lack of a Bloody Mary, he says they can make one with wine as the alcohol and I won't know the difference? Really? Well you know what? he was right! We had a large sized group so we got to taste a wide variety of the menu. I had the chilaquiles with shrimp that had the fluffiest scrambled eggs on them that I have ever eaten! I would go back for that dish alone. And ask for a side of bacon as you definitely get your money's worth! I bet there were 5 pieces of bacon on that plate! We also decided to share a sweet dish so we all got a bite of the Banana Brulee french toast which was heaven on a plate! Be still my taste buds! Others at the table at the avocado toast, shrimp and grits, eggs Benedict, sausage and gravy and the chicken and waffles. This place is a the end of a strip mall and it's a cute little restaurant. The biscuits are delicious. The jalapeño sausage gravy is soooo good and the fried green tomatoes were amazing. I think they could do a couple things better like my son said the strawberry French toast was way too sweet. Maybe because they say it in a plate of caramel sauce. And the fruit was not fresh or it was soaked in something sweet as well which made the bread soggy. I think the savory dishes were better than the sweet. The shrimp and grits were good as well. I cannot say enough good things about The Rooster Food & Drink in Naples, Fl. When we first arrived around noon there was a line of people waiting to be seated because the restaurant is just that good!! In the scheme of things, we ended up not having to wait that long to be seated. They have an extensive menu of feel good food and many menu items can be made gluten free if they are not already and it is not a gluten free restaurant. They also have both gluten free biscuits and non gluten free biscuits and both incredible! I have to be gluten free and I was able to order The Rooster Benedict on a gluten free biscuit. Every morning they make their own lemon hollandaise sauce, in addition to, all of their other menu items. It also came with a hash brown muffin that was so delicious! I was in heaven that I could eat something like this and have it be so delicious at the same time!! My husband who is not gluten free ordered the biscuits and gravy breakfast and also ordered a side of brisket. He absolutely loved his meal too! I was also able to have some of the brisket which was so good as well! Our waiter was fabulous too! Not only was he so patient and kind but he was so knowledgeable about gluten, in addition to the chef, being very knowledgeable about what gluten was and what menu items I could have! I took my dad here for Father's Day brunch and it was great! The interior is tiny so there is very limited seating but we went around 1pm and were able to sit right away. It was a little bit warm inside so you might find it uncomfortable if you spent a while waiting outside in the heat before sitting down. I had the crabcake benedict and it was amazing! The hush puppy muffins that come with the meals are delicious as well. We also had a pancake which was really yummy, but keep in mind the pancake style here is more thin and crispy than fluffy and moist. Also, the standard pancake batter is lemon flavored. There were a few issues with our order (brought over orange juice instead of apple juice and brought the wrong pancakes to our table) but they fixed both of those immediately and were apologetic. My dad also didn't like that his hush puppy was well done and they had no issues at all giving him a new one. Overall the service was great and the food was delicious! Found this place because of Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives and was glad that I did! Super friendly staff that were very helpful with navigating the menu. The portion sizes here are massive! I got the Reuben Sandwich and it was huge. Layers upon layers of corned beef all between two slices of rye bread. The inclusion of coleslaw helps to cut through the richness of the sandwich. The only slight issues I had was that the bread got soggy too quickly. So about halfway through, the sandwich was falling apart. After a redeye flight, we were excited to sit down for some real food. Bleary-eyed, exhausted, and a little sweaty from wearing way-too-warm attire, we needed good food. Perplexity AI led us to The Rooster. As we parked one said "hm, how did we pick this place?" It's in a generic strip mall on a generic street. Wow, the food was the opposite of generic. When we sat down we realized it was in the Guy Fieri show. The menus was dense and unique. We had three different dishes and each was truly delicious. It took a bit to arrive, but it was worth it. The chicken sandwich flood of flavors was shocking. Service was very friendly but sporadic. But, we knew how to flag someone down when needed. She was also well informed about everything on the menu which could be made gluten free to accommodate my wife's celiac. Smokey with just enough fat and topped with sautéed onions and coleslaw. The fries like the hash browns are next level! Thick cut beef tallow fries make everything all right! The biscuits and gravy were so indulgent and though it is jalapeño gravy it's not too spicy, in fact nothing was overly spicy. The snapper benne was made with fresh fish and went perfectly with the lemony hollandaise sauce. We also had to go full circle and get a huge piece of Mama's hummingbird cake. The server was friendly and attentive even though she was being run ragged. Not a lot of seating inside or out so there is a good chance you're waiting. Sure you can get eggs and pancakes, but you can also get Banana or peach bruelle French toast, avacado toast or pimento cheese toast with candy bacon. I had the Texas Ruben with moist brisket and jalapeño relish and savory cheese and cold slaw. Delicious- the only improvement would be to serve the brisket medium with some red center. First time here. Ordered eggs over and bacon. Waitress asks do I want the biscuit first? I said no. Breakfast comes. Eggs over, bacon and hash browns in the shape of a muffin. No biscuit. Eggs and bacon were good. I asked where is the biscuit after i finished. Waitress said no biscuit with breakfast. I asked, no toast? No, no toast. I have never been to a breakfast place anywhere in the WORLD that doesn't have some kind of bread and butter. The hash brown muffin ,while it looks good was luke warm and indiscript. The biscuits had great texture and they came with local jams, which were absolutely delicious. For my main, I had the pork belly BLT.
