I have been going to the Roost on sunshine since the day they opened and have never had a complaint. Looking for some food to pick up on my way home. Immediately thought of them as my go to in Springfield. It is a restaurant/bar on a Saturday night so I figured no problem grabbing some food after running errands at 9 pm. As we walked in, I saw a chalkboard outside that said kitchen closes at nine. It was 8:59 as we walked into the restaurant and I asked the server if we could get an order in very quickly. As someone who has worked in food service, I understand it is completely annoying for someone to order right before you close, but the entire place was not closing and they were still actively cooking other food. There were other people in the restaurant and as she opened the kitchen door we could see they were still actively cooking in the back. We heard her go back and have a conversation about whether they could take our order or not and then she came back out to ask if it was for there or to go. She went back in and had another conversation and after informing the cooks that it was to go, she came back out and told us that they would not serve us. As a longtime supporter of the roost, I will definitely take my business elsewhere or stick to the Republic Road location. So sad because I have been a fan of the Sunshine location for so many years. read more

The Roost definitely has one of the best burgers in town! I usually go for either the Bacon Ranch Burger or the Jalapeño Burger. The Chipotle Ranch is fantastic. They make the burgers from fresh beef and whatever it is they season them with, I am a fan! I recommend the waffle fries, fried mushrooms and the onion rings. The fried mushrooms and onion rings are fresh battered...and delicious. The fried pickles are also very good here. There are plenty of TV's and a couple of projector screens to watch whatever sporting event is on that day, and if there is a Cardinal's game on, it will be on the projector. read more

I visited here with my wife, son and his wife for lunch on 09/24/18. Besides one person at the bar, we were the only people there. As we found our table I noticed the floor was grabbing my flip flops as I walked around. My son had told me there is real good food here so I let that slide. The waitress was nice enough but somewhat absent. I think it may have been about time for shift change. Everyone ordered some type of burger but me. I had the Italian sandwich with waffle fries. As we waited I watched the bartender smoking out front and then came straight in to take care of the bar without washing his hands. In my opinion, that's a bad thing. My son and wife had onion rings and my daughter in law had the steak fries (roost fries). My sons Roost burger (1/2 lb) looked amazing as did the onion rings. I was a little let down when I saw my Italian "sub". It was on a short bun and was not very thick at all. It definitely lacked in the meat and cheese department. I also counted the 12 waffle fries I got. My sandwich was very tasty though. The bun was toasted a little too crispy for my liking. Overall a palatable lunch. Everyone seemed to enjoy their burgers. My son had to smash his down and cut it in half. I tried one of my wife's onion rings. They are full rings that are batter dipped. The one I had still needed a little cook time as it was still a little doughy. No one else said they experienced the same issue and said they enjoyed them. Overall the meal was pretty good. Our server left the ticket and took off to talk to the man at the bar. We inserted the card and waited for her return. She was right in front of us at the bar. I eventually had to interrupt her to give her the payment. I would definitely return but would go for one of those good looking burgers and probably skip the Italian even though what there was is it had good flavor. read more

I updated my review because I was really mad when I punched out the first one... So very sad to leave one star. We usually have good service and we love coming here to socialize with our friends, enjoy some cocktails and eat some tacos on Taco Tuesday. It is like the show Cheers, it is our hangout on Tuesday nights. But tonight I was treated poorly by the General Manager. I was served 2 deluxe tacos. Yes, only $1, but like I said...we come for other things. Well, my tacos had barely any lettuce, like a spec- I wish I would have taken a photo, but I didn't realize how poorly I was about to be treated. Anyway, I sent them back and told them that it had hardly anything in it, there is no lettuce. Then, the Gen. Manager storms out to argue with me about the tacos and how they measure everything just right so they are the same. I told him it was not the same, pointed out the "no lettuce" and and showed him other tacos on the table that were full. So he said, fine I will bring you a punch of lettuce and left. I also asked if I could have taco sauce and he said it is in my basket. Well, obviously I am asking for it because I didn't get any and neither did my husband. He leaves and comes back with my "pinch" of lettuce and taco sauce and leaves again. It gets better. Some of the order are wrong, so they bring out extra tacos, for free, to the other people at my table. But...you are going to argue over lettuce?! Really! This same Gen. Manager was upset that we pulled tables together...like we always do as we have been comping there on Tuesday's for over 3 years. His shift ends and the other manager gets on duty, Nick. He comes to talk to us about the situation because he knows us. We tip well, we are courteous, and we spend money on drinks. He apologized for the other manager's actions, but I don't know if we will be back for a while. We did not appreciate how we were treated...except for our server- she was awesome! So, Mr. Gen. Manager, maybe rethink how you treat and speak to your patrons l, because there are a lot of other places that would love to have our business. read more

I've been here five maybe six times, I have never had any of these great experiences the others have posted. One time I can say I've had a pleasant experience and after this time I will not be back. I ordered the dollar sliders and they took a normal burger patty and cut it into the five sliders I ordered. Three were okay size that I would have shrugged off but the other two looked like the chunks of burger on the grill all night thrown under a piece of cheese that was no bigger than a quarter on my bun. Okay, first of all, Alan C. - there are loads of amazing places to get burgers in Springfield! Let's talk about that sometime. The Roost is basically just another Build Your Own Sports Bar!©: tons of hoisted TV screens playing THE EXACT SAME STATION (something I'll never understand); an apathetic, college-age staff; and mostly obligatory bar food. Maybe it's just because places like this aren't my idea of a good time, but I failed to pinpoint the difference between here and Big Whiskey's or, say, Applebee's. Well, okay, The Roost has wayyy more chicken menu items than anywhere else, so they've got that going... I guess. I'm not into chicken in most scenarios, so I split some pretzel sticks with a friend that were fine, but which I'm not convinced didn't come frozen in a box (basically, it was hard to imagine anyone was back there whippin' up pretzels from scratch). The accompanying cheese sauce was a little bland as well. I did sample some of my friends' waffle fries, which were plump and quite waffle-y indeed. I liked 'em - would eat again. My table didn't order any alcoholic drinks, which could be why our somewhat surly server didn't return after bringing us our sodas and waters. Instead, we placed our food orders with a guy who was a bit more upbeat while our former server chilled off and on with friends at another table. If she'd just gotten off work, that's totally cool, but either way it was kind of obvious she wasn't psyched. Two stars because "Meh. I've experienced better." fits my night here to a tee. Loafing around on the weekend and decided to drop in with the lady for a nice lunch. Place is sport bar with hint of dive. A place you can hang out, have a nice beer, and a burger. I had the classic cheese burger with waffle fries and she had the bacon cheese with a side of onion rings. Burgers come on a nice toasted bun and fully dressed. So if you don't want it on the burger best speak up. That said we both liked our burgers. I loved the waffle fries and she really loved the onion rings. Light flaky batter really making the onion rings the star of the meal. Probably the one major down was the service. It wasn't terribly busy but our server really didn't seem to be all the interested. I had the worst experience when it came to service today at the Roost. I was really hungover and I live close by so I thought I would try it out. I went around 1:30 pm. I was greeted whenever I walked in the door and sat down. My server's name was Jesse and he came over and took my drink order. I ordered a water since I was hungover. It took him 20 minutes to get the water! Ridiculous for one drink and they were not busy. Finally, he came over and took my food order. I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak and onion rings. First, they brought out the wrong food. A French Dip. Then they corrected the sandwich, but gave me waffle fries instead of the onion rings. I was really hungry so I just ate the waffle fries. The food was pretty good, but good service is key in the restaurant business and I've been a server. I got my tab after forever, of course, and he didn't even provide a pen so I could sign my check since I was paying with a debit card. Needless to say, I didn't tip. I don't know what it was. I love coming to smaller cities and getting a taste of the local spots. I came here on a Tuesday and had a blast. They had multiple TVs to show all the games. Now this is a establishment that when I first walked in 5 years ago I was not a fan. Not that it wasn't nice it just wasn't my cup of tea. But after going back about a year ago my outlook was completely changed. I found that it's was a fun place to be! They have great drink specials whether it be happy hour or just a daily deal. Not to mention the food is much better than most places serving American fare. Everything from the crab bucket too The black and blue burger, well prepared with good portions and pricing. On certain nights they have music and you can always challenge a friend to a round of golden tee or buck hunter. It's a restaurant with bar food. The first time I was there I got a fried chicken salad with chipotle honey mustard dressing. The salad was great as was the service. The second time I went the service was horrible. I waited for 45 minutes for my salad, the person I was with ordered a chicken sandwich and got hers before mine. The restaurant was not busy at all. We had heard many great things about The Roost, so we decided to go and check it out. We got there and they were slightly busy but were able to get a table. We sat down and ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer. Then we ordered our meal. We waited FOREVER for our meal and never got our chips and salsa (I was 8 months pregnant and starving!). Apparently someone else got our appetizers by mistake. Our meal finally came and it was pretty tasty. My husband got a cheeseburger and loved it and I got the large mac and cheese. It was pretty great but I did not realize how greasy it was. Tasty as it was, it was super heavy and actually made me sick. We boxed it up and took it home anyways because I didnt want to waste the money. The next day I attempted it at home (thought maybe it was just that I ate it too fast because I was hungry & pregnant). After I finished it, I didnt get as sick, but I left my bowl out after eating it and it was CAKED with grease. Like literally, hard grease that you pour from a pan after you cook hamburger or something. So just a heads up on that... We have yet to go back and try something else, but my husband said the burger was good (I did enjoy their fries though) read more

The Roost is definitely the place to go for great drink specials and some of the best bar food in town. As Jeffrey D. mentioned, the wait staff usually doesn't greet anyone at the door because almost everyone that comes in there are frequent visitors. If it's your first time, just walk in a grab a seat. They have great drink specials every day of the week. Thursday is my personal favorite - all-day happy hour. Their food is very good, especially their burgers, wraps, and salads. I recommend the spinach chicken wrap with the steak fries. My friends and I absolutely love The Roost. The staff is personable, even when they are packed. The atmosphere is great, especially for sports games. Plus the food and drinks there are great and inexpensive! Taco Tuesdays and Happy Hour Thursdays are our favorite nights to go up there for dinner and drinks. Definitely try the Spinach Chicken Wrap, Mild and Wild Wings, or Cowboy Quesadilla. All three are delicious! read more
