My girlfriends and I are always looking for a good place to hang out and have a drink. We have…read moretoured almost every dive bar in Springfield and then by chance, we heard of this place. A quick Google search and a drive into the country and BAM! We found our spot. This is one review I probably should not write - I want to keep this place a secret. Please do not go out there and ruin this bar... It's quiet, well managed, clean and tucked away. Gunny's is in an old cabin. Actually, the hunting cabin of Paul Mueller built in 1936 when this area of Springfield was still in the country. The main bar area is the actual cabin and then an add-on was put on the north which holds some tables and a pool table. The building had a fire sometime ago and the char marks are still visible on the walls - but all is repaired. This place does not advertise. It doesn't have to and has stayed in business by word of mouth and regulars. The bar is well stocked - good selection and the staff is all female bartenders that I'm sure on a busy night can keep it all spinning. The walls are covered in cool old pictures and neon. There is a pool table and shuffleboard but what got us... this place is immaculately clean. It is out of the city limits so it is a smoking bar but you would never know it. The floors are hardwood, the tables are well cared for and not a bad chair in the place. Whoever owns this bar has poured some love into it and absolutely maintains it. My favorite is the outside area. Well done patio with beautiful red umbrellas this time of year. The fire pit is well built and the whole place is well lit. Seriously. If you there is a need for a quiet night out with a few friends that don't want to get rowdy - this is the place.

We were only allowed to have one drink, and the bartender barely acknowledged us because they were already trying to push everyone out by 1:00 AM. Not 1:15 or 1:30 -- right at 1:00 they stopped serving beer and wouldn't even give us quarters for the pool tables. I've honestly never seen a bar operate this way. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and it seemed like they cared more about getting customers out the door than actually providing good service. I don't understand how they stay in business treating paying customers like this. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this poorly run establishment. They clearly don't appreciate their patrons or their business.

If you're on the hunt for the best Scotch eggs around, this place is an absolute must. We…read moreunexpectedly went on a scotch egg tour this week. I will not drag the competition, but Dublin's Pass was the clear winner. I won't use specifics, but you get so much more bang for your buck, purely from a financial aspect. Let me first say, the eggs arrive on a plate with a light breading that adds the perfect balance of crunch yet balanced with the soft egg. All brought to you with a mustard that is the perfect combination of pickled veg and punchy mustard. The meat was cooked perfectly. The combination between the meat, egg and mustard marry one another beautifully to lend to a flavor roller coaster in your mouth. What really sets these Scotch eggs apart is the attention to detail. They taste like they are meant for a flavor rollercoaster. Each element feels intentional. Whether you're a longtime Scotch egg lover or trying one for the first time, this restaurant sets the bar high. Simply put: these are the Scotch eggs other places should be aspiring. Eggs aside, we also had an order of the boneless wings. Not a hard thing to get right, but we had roasted garlic parmesan with garlic aioli, to die for. I am from out of town, and this place is absolutely a must. It will never not be on to do list.
