While visiting my daugher and grandchildren in Groton, they wanted to try something that they hadn't before. We pulled up pizza and as usual - looked to Yelp to guide us. The Rolling Tomato came up as being highly rated. We placed our order - the pizza menu is a little confusing. There doesn't look to be any way to order anything other than what is on the menu (ie if you just want cheese and sausage - there didn't seem to be a "create your own", but just their creations). We did a couple of standard magherita type pizzas hoping there would be enough for us and the kids. Overall, it was a quick turnaround, the pizza was okay - nothing stellar - when you're from Chicago, the bar is VERY high; and the appetizers we ordered were pretty standard faire too. read more

Spent $50 for pickup at this place on a road trip. Did not let a member of my party use the bathroom because it was "out of order." Not cool - would not recommend this place as a result. read more

Looks kind of average inside and out, but definitely don't let that deter you from going. The service was excellent. Very fast and kind waitress, I think we were in and out in 30 minutes. The pizza was great, very light but filling. Perfect size for two people and it will leave you satisfied! I love that they also give you free popcorn while you're waiting. Will definitely be coming back. read more

We hired Matt Burnside and his crew to cater my father's celebration of life. My family and I couldn't be happier with the food, the service, or the kindness! It was EXCELLENT - so many different kinds of pizza, salad and wings! Our guests were delighted. We even had a gluten free guest and Matt and his crew made her a GF pizza, especially for her! I highly recommend this business! We were so pleased! read more

Was looking for a good local pizza joint and I found one. Recommended by the front desk clerk of the hotel I'm staying at, I ordered brick oven cheese, feta, mozzarella, chicken and basil pizza. Quite tasty, good sauce (a key ingredient), and very good crust. Called for pick-up, the guy answering the phone couldn't have been more helpful or patient walking me through my options. Worth its price. read more

This pizza place located a stone throw away from the Sub Base is a MUST go. The pizza is delicious and the menu has enough variety to please anyone. My friends and I each ordered a half pizza and shared a dozen wings. Ordering the Princess Priscilla, the Poor Harley, and the Zoey Bear (Menu posted in photos) We got our food incredibly quickly. Without a doubt, the best pizza was the Zoey Bear which is a thai peanut pizza with chicken. The wings came out quickly also and the sides of ranch of blue cheese were INCREDIBLY generous. If you are in Groton, New London, or anywhere nearby; you NEED to come and try the Rolling Tomato. read more

It has a convenient location on Long Hill Rd in Groton CT. I placed an order for a pepperoni pizza to go. They told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. I walked in 15 minutes after I ordered it. It was ready. They use a brick oven which makes a difference. read more

Well if you want to pick up a pizza for dinner. Come here. It was a quick call in and ready in fifteen minutes. Very friendly on the phone, and at the counter I was greeted with a smile and pizza ready to go! I order the Big Stubby (meatlovers style). Must try it was excellent. Needless to say I won't be getting my pizza from those corporate chain pizzas such as Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc. read more

Went in the other day to show support for a local business....no plexi up between customers/staff as I have seen at every other business that is open. 4 people behind the counter and in the kitchen, no one wearing a mask. Sorry but if that is how seriously they are taking this situation then I can find others who make equally as good a product who do. read more

I had Rolling Tomato once in the past and enjoyed it enough to want to come back. Today was less stellar of an experience... it took a long time for the waitress to take or order, and once we finally got to order we found out they were out of basically all of the toppings we wanted. So, we came up with a plan B and ordered something else, and when it came out all of the toppings were super skimpy. There were slices that didn't have a single piece of sausage on them. The ones that had sausage had one piece. I'd be lying if I said I'm not a bit disappointed. read more

I was in town for business and saw the reviews here so I decided to give it a shot. First this was a take out order, but the staff was very attentive and quick to help with anything I might need not to mention very timely. Driving all the way (a whole 3 miles)to my hotel smelling this deliciousness was tantamount to torture. Ok long story short I ordered the Ivory Coast white pie. As I have tried this pizza (or close to) in many different establishments, in many different states/countries I can say just this. This pizza had the best flavors, best crust and best chew of anything I have had previously, not greasy, excellent cheeses and herbs. All this and in a wood fired oven. Will definitely be back....on my next trip! read more

I'm originally from Central NY so I thought I knew everything there was about pizza and wings. All I can say is I couldn't have been more wrong! My wife & I ordered the "Kona" pizza which is essentially a Hawaiian - ham, pineapple, etc. On the side we ordered wings with their bourbon molasses glaze. The bourbon molasses in my opinion is a tangy barbecue sauce that is both sweet and sour. I honestly believe the pizza and wings we ate were some of the best I've had in my life, and that's saying a lot considering I grew up in a city where there's more pizzerias than gas stations. read more

Seriously the best pizza I've ever had. Better than any NYC pizza spot, the fresh ingredients and UNBELIEVABLY tasty crust come together in the wood fire oven create total perfection. You cannot beat The Rolling Tomato's taste & quality, and it comes at such a reasonable price point. We started coming once a week because we can't help but constantly crave our favorite pizza & salad. I may get a Rolling Tomato tattoo. Anyway, it's incredible. G bless Rolling T. read more

Yo this pizza is fire I wish I had all the money in the world so I could buy 15,000 pizzas exclusively from this place.

Ordered a Mad Maxx specifically for the horseradish sauce that accompanies the roast beef. Sandwich came without even a drop of it and also barely any cheese. Super greasy. Maybe next time it will be good but not this time. Fail read more

We saw on Yelp that this place had good reviews so we decided to check it out for lunch. Our waitress suggested the Zoey Bear and we are glad we took her advice. I would have never thought to put Peanut sauce as the pizza base and top it with chicken, garlic, and ranch but it was so good. Two of us ate the entire pizza! They were also very accommodating with the preferences of our small children. The waitress offered the option of a single slice for them to share. The hole in the wall of the place provided a change from chain like pizza places and the artisan style pizzas hit the spot. We will definitely be going back to try another pizza in the future! read more

We weren't big fans of the pizza. It was over cooked and way too little sauce. Not worth the big price tags

Best pizza in Groton. Good crispy crust. Wood fire flavor and char. Quality ingredients.

This has to be one of these worst pizzas I've ever eaten in Groton . My pizza was extremely cold and flavorless . As well as greasy.

love this little hole in the wall pizza place! every time we get something here it's so good, wether it's on the food truck or in the building. such good pizza! read more

This place was my favorite for pizza. Unfortunately, the last two times the pizza has been terrible. The crust and bottom of the pizza were charcoal. Burnt black. There were hardly any of the toppings on it. A couple of pieces didn't have any. Just the sauce and cheese. They have really gone downhill. I travel 20 miles to go there. Don't think I'll do that anymore! It's too bad. They used to be really good. read more

Stopped in here after visiting submarine museum. Garlic Parmesan and buffalo wings were delicious. Crispy, meaty and delicious. Crazy Joey pie was also delicious. The crust here is unlike any pie I have had in a good way. Can't wait to revisit read more

Wasn't too satisfied with this place. I ordered a Big BAD Bo which is advertised as a sandwich served on their very own "Rosemary Tuscany bread." Let's be clear this is just their pizza crust with a sprinkle of rosemary folded in half. It is interesting however that you can buy a whole pizza or just a half of a pizza in case your not that hungry. They also give popcorn while you wait for your meal. read more

I don't often leave reviews but this place was definitely the best wood fire pizza I have ever had. The staff was great and very personable. The pizza was not disgusting and greasy like other places. The crust was flavorful and the topping combinations were wonderful especially the white pizzas. 10/10 recommend read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Finally got a large cheese with basil and garlic. First bite was slammed with flavor. This is how pizza should taste like. 6 stars for this place. The rolling tomato has real pizza for real people that want flavor and taste. I've read all the negative reviews and I got to say these have got to be some of the stupidest people I've ever seen write a review. In fact the negative reviews made me want to try this place even more. Some people wouldn't know flavor if it bit them on the rear end. Price is just right if you want good pizza. Go to domino's if you want flavorless and cheap. I will definitely be going back. read more

We hired The Rolling Tomato to cater the reception after my mother's memorial service. It was an unlikely pairing - pizza and a funeral - but it was one of my mother's last requests. The food was delicious. TRT provided several varieties of coal fired pizzas from the basics to artisan pies. Our guests loved the food and stayed longer to eat pizza and remember my mother. My mother was a happy woman and the pizza truck lightened the mood of what would probably have been a far more depressing atmosphere. People actually had fun. Several commented that they'll remember this event and would seriously consider a pizza truck for their own events. Staff was friendly and professional. Provided all plates, napkins and silverware. Clean up was fantastic. Highest recommendation. read more

This is the best pizza joint in Groton hands down. Try the POOR HARLEY and a side of CHICKEN WINGS. Best combo ever!!! You won't regret it. I'm living out in the middle of the freaking ocean now, and crave this place so bad . The crust is phenomenal, wish they would share the recipe read more

Great food but the restrooms and restaurant need major update. Otherwise, the wings are great and the pizza is awesome!

There's an expression "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining". Well I can't think of a better expression that aptly describes Rolling Tomato's claim. They claim their pizza is New Haven style pizza. Does merely having a quarter inch strip of char automatically make it a New Haven pizza? No. Many pizzerias all over the country char their pizza. Some do it on purpose and some do it by accident. That doesn't automatically make them all New Haven pizza style. So where's the soupy messy sauce? Where's the crust that's crispy on the outside and doughy in the inside? Where's the bubbles in the crust? Where's the odd sized chunks of tomatoes floating in the sauce? Where's the fresh mozzarella that stretches a mile when pulled? THOSE are real characteristics of New Haven pizza. And those characteristics were missing from my Rolling Tomato's pizza. So how did my pizza taste? Sadly it didn't look or taste much different than a Dominos pizza. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a pizza snob. It honestly DID taste like a Dominos pizza. The crust was the closest resemblance. The sauce reminded me of jar sauce. The Rolling Tomato is proof that automatically having a wood oven is no guarantee of producing a good pizza. In all honesty I can think of only one pizzeria in New Haven that uses a wood oven. So I don't know how the Rolling Tomato people can say their pizza taste like New Haven pizza when they're using a wood fired oven. New Haven pizza is typically not wood fired. Arrrrghh. read more

I don't know what they do to their pizza to make it so juicy, but it's unlike any pizza I've ever had. It's mouth-watering and delicious. You can tell they put effort into every pizza they prepare. We've gone here a few times when we first moved here and are picky about our pizza and usually make them at home but we had pretty big birthday party for me amongst friends and family and found out they hosted with their catering woodfire pizza truck!! We were so excited!! We had at least 20 adults and 20 kids and had them from 5-7pm since the earlier time was already booked up but it ended up working out great since kids ate and went home fed. Matthew was our pizza caterer and had a gal that helped out as well. They were early, professional, personable, the amazing variety of pizzas were rolling in and we got so many compliments from our guests!! Their pizzas were all so stellar! My personal favorite is their buffalo chicken and BBQ chicken but they were all delicious and nothing better than Stonefire pizza fresh for your party! I know we could've ordered pizza and had it delivered but the experience was amazing We are a Navy family and are looking forward to using them again in the future for our events. They are worth the money and experience to have catered, not have to cook, and worry about clean up etc. Thank you for an outstanding experience and service!! read more
