It's light and fluffy with a slight crunch on the outside. Beautiful dough-bubbles on the inside. The place itself isn't anything special. No frills, just good pizza. It's BYOB which is awesome. This review is based off of take out pizza orders only. If you were looking to dine in, it's a very casual place, but that's about the only notes I can offer. What is great about Rolling Tomato is a variety of fun pizza flavors and a really nice wood fired crust. We've been pretty consistent with our order of a big stubby which is essentially a meat lovers pizza. There are some stand out sliced meatballs on it that are stellar. I can recommend adding on some of their wings that travel surprisingly well. Service has always been rock solid in that pizzas are on time, still hot and they've never messed up any of our orders or special requests. read more

Great place, perfect brick oven pizza. Not only is it tasty to the last bite, full of fresh ingredients, but the combinations are the bomb. There's so much variety, and they're all good. There's a nice mix of traditional (white pies, different Italian cheeses) and new style toppings. So I figured I'd give them a try. This location serves both takeout and dining in options. Interior is typical pizzeria decor, but everything was clean and tidy. I came at an off hour so there were only two other customers. Service was fast- it didn't take more than 10 minutes to get my pizza. The food was quite good- sliced sausage (as I say, always a big plus), and eggplant which was unfortunately breaded, but the breading was not heavy and didn't overwhelm the eggplant. I won the Teacher Appreciation contest from a local radio station and was given a $50 certificate for your restaurant. I decided Friday was a good day to use my certificate and was excited to stop by and grab dinner. This was my FIRST time, ever, at this restaurant. First, When I got there and showed the certificate to the cashier, she questioned where and why I had gotten it. Really? She was in disbelief of the amount, so she proceeded to (in front of me) question the amount with a gentleman that was there, who I assume is the manager/owner! Seriously? Then, I get my food, drive home and when I opened my pizzas, they were literally burnt?! Would you have sent out a pizza that looked like this if the customer had paid full price? I would say no, the customer would have sent it back!!! This is my take on it...I don't think I'll ever go back, so rather than gaining a customer, you lost one and I will make sure to share my experience with others. Stopped with the kids for dinner on a Saturday mid day afternoon. We had wings, sweet chili sauce, and garlic, Parmesan, chicken tenders, and fries, a size, small chicken, Uncle Sam chicken sandwich, and a full/large pizza.... The four of the three stars are because I really enjoyed my pizza and wings. However, the sandwich was rather small and nothing like the other rolling tomato in Colchester. The pizza was only eight slices for a large (!!!!!) and it looked exactly like a small pizza anywhere else if I'm paying $22 for a pizza I would expect to get more than eight slices out of it, if you were having a party and you ordered this you would have to order double. When I paid my bill, I asked the woman behind the counter about the size of the pizza, because I thought they charge me wrong, she also agreed that the prices are pretty steep for such a small pizza. We had the Zoe, which was a Thai peanut chicken pizza and the Bella which had fresh mozzarella, garlic, tomato and basil. Both were scrumptious. This place was sooo yummy! The service was good the waitress was nice and helpful. I didn't know it was BYOB so that's cool they do not sell any alcoholic drinks there. The gorgonzola chicken salad was huge and delicious! The wings were really good but seemed pink not sure but we didn't get sick from it or anything, the pickles were different not bad but wouldn't get them there again I prefer them cut into pieces. I love the concept! Woodfired pizza joints are becoming a new favorite of mine and The Rolling Tomato adds a twist I haven't seen by also serving sandwiches (called Tuscanis). Imagine your favorite hearty deli sandwich loaded with meat, veggies, and drenched in dressing - then replace roof-of-mouth scraping overlyhard bread with perfectly chewy woodfired pizza dough and voila...there's your sandwich! I recommend either the Mama Mia or the Big Bad BOW. I was able to sample several of their pizzas and can attest to other reviewer's remarks that they are excellent from the hand made dough to the fresh toppings. YEP! Perfectly cooked New Haven style pizza with a great variety of pies and appetizers. The Hawaiian is by far the best and paired with a basket of fries we were definitely filled up. They do not serve brew, but it is BYOB. They apparently have great chicken wings, wood fired, but I have not tried them yet. The Rolling Tomato came up as being highly rated. We placed our order - the pizza menu is a little confusing. There doesn't look to be any way to order anything other than what is on the menu (ie if you just want cheese and sausage - there didn't seem to be a "create your own", but just their creations). We did a couple of standard magherita type pizzas hoping there would be enough for us and the kids. Overall, it was a quick turnaround, the pizza was okay - nothing stellar - when you're from Chicago, the bar is VERY high; and the appetizers we ordered were pretty standard faire too. read more

I want to love it. I really do. If the prices were better I think I would add an extra star(we voted a 2.5 in the house). The pizza is decent, some better than others. The crust is often burnt beyond what I like my wood fire pizza. The really problem is the toppings. You order the KONA and there may be one of each topping on each slice of pizza....that just stinks. Coming from a land of fast food pizza joints that load on the toppings, the pizzas can look a little sad. The toppings are fresh and great...just a bit scarce. Ordering delivery? You must spend at least $50.... So we pick up. The staff is kind enough. Some more than others. The wings are really good...but $1 a piece. It's just a little pricier than some of the other places....but once again, the wings are fresh and well made.
