This review is based off of take out pizza orders only. If you were looking to dine in, it's a very casual place, but that's about the only notes I can offer. What is great about Rolling Tomato is a variety of fun pizza flavors and a really nice wood fired crust. We've been pretty consistent with our order of a big stubby which is essentially a meat lovers pizza. There are some stand out sliced meatballs on it that are stellar. I can recommend adding on some of their wings that travel surprisingly well. Great place, perfect brick oven pizza. Not only is it tasty to the last bite, full of fresh ingredients, but the combinations are the bomb. There's so much variety, and they're all good. There's a nice mix of traditional (white pies, different Italian cheeses) and new style toppings. You can tell that whoever developed the dough/sauce/cheese blend recipes and the topping combinations really cares about making good food. So I figured I'd give them a try. This location serves both takeout and dining in options. Interior is typical pizzeria decor, but everything was clean and tidy. I came at an off hour so there were only two other customers. Service was fast- it didn't take more than 10 minutes to get my pizza. The food was quite good- sliced sausage (as I say, always a big plus), and eggplant which was unfortunately breaded, but the breading was not heavy and didn't overwhelm the eggplant. I won the Teacher Appreciation contest from a local radio station and was given a $50 certificate for your restaurant. I decided Friday was a good day to use my certificate and was excited to stop by and grab dinner. This was my FIRST time, ever, at this restaurant. First, When I got there and showed the certificate to the cashier, she questioned where and why I had gotten it. Really? She was in disbelief of the amount, so she proceeded to (in front of me) question the amount with a gentleman that was there, who I assume is the manager/owner! Seriously? Then, I get my food, drive home and when I opened my pizzas, they were literally burnt?! Would you have sent out a pizza that looked like this if the customer had paid full price? I would say no, the customer would have sent it back!!! This is my take on it...I don't think I'll ever go back, so rather than gaining a customer, you lost one and I will make sure to share my experience with others. Imagine your favorite hearty deli sandwich loaded with meat, veggies, and drenched in dressing - then replace roof-of-mouth scraping overlyhard bread with perfectly chewy woodfired pizza dough and voila...there's your sandwich! I recommend either the Mama Mia or the Big Bad BOW. The four of the three stars are because I really enjoyed my pizza and wings. However, the sandwich was rather small and nothing like the other rolling tomato in Colchester. The pizza was only eight slices for a large (!!!!!) and it looked exactly like a small pizza anywhere else if I'm paying $22 for a pizza I would expect to get more than eight slices out of it, if you were having a party and you ordered this you would have to order double. When I paid my bill, I asked the woman behind the counter about the size of the pizza, because I thought they charge me wrong, she also agreed that the prices are pretty steep for such a small pizza. This place was sooo yummy! The service was good the waitress was nice and helpful. I didn't know it was BYOB so that's cool they do not sell any alcoholic drinks there. The gorgonzola chicken salad was huge and delicious! The wings were really good but seemed pink not sure but we didn't get sick from it or anything, the pickles were different not bad but wouldn't get them there again I prefer them cut into pieces. I want to love it. I really do. If the prices were better I think I would add an extra star(we voted a 2.5 in the house). The pizza is decent, some better than others. The crust is often burnt beyond what I like my wood fire pizza. The really problem is the toppings. You order the KONA and there may be one of each topping on each slice of pizza....that just stinks. Coming from a land of fast food pizza joints that load on the toppings, the pizzas can look a little sad. The toppings are fresh and great...just a bit scarce. Ordering delivery? You must spend at least $50.... So we pick up. The staff is kind enough. Some more than others. The wings are really good...but $1 a piece. It's just a little pricier than some of the other places....but once again, the wings are fresh and well made. If they dropped a buck or so off each item I think it would be a better contender for the other places around. read more

Gluten free wood fired pizza! We were greeted by Babe, the owner's mom. That was a delight in itself. She made me feel welcomed and kinda like I was right at home. I ordered the Noah's Ark white pizza with a gluten free crust. The crust is not their own...a typical thin gluten free pie crust. The toppings, however, were fabulous! Mozzarella, ricotta, carmalized red onion, spinach and bacon. I asked for addrd fresh tomatoes....no problem! Hot, fresh, delicious! I would love to try ALL other combinations!!! My bf had wings. They weren't very spicey hot but meaty, cooked well and good. They offer many 'flavors' of wings...but he will only eat the 'real',buffalo wings with blue cheese (never ranch). Perfectly Rolled Crust. To see how good this pizza is just start with a plain cheese pizza. The pizza is very thin and lightweight barely measuring half an inch thick. The crust is Crisp and cracker-y and faintly blackened where it bubbles up towards the fire in the pizza oven.....this crust is not something you toss into the box like an afterthought. The sauce has a touch of sweetness and has a tangy punch of tomato flavor probably due to the high degree of tomato paste making up the sauce. Thankfully it's not the same watery red slosh that graces the bottoms of many a local pizza, but a thicker zesty tomato sauce.
