After seeing someone's raving post about The Rib Shack on Facebook I was reminded to try it. I don't know if is a glorious or disastrous discovery. Glorious because it was delicious... disastrous for the same reason (pants, please forgive me for the gluttonous eating that will occur). I got the tri tip plate with a side of Mac and cheese and a side of fries. I couldn't decide and only ate a little of each but that's because the tri tip was so good and I needed to save room for dessert.Mile recommended the cobbler - sure Mike, if you say so! The bbq sauce - sweet or original. Hmm, both? After going back and forth I decided the original was my favorite. I have to say, I didn't even make it out of the kitchen with my food. I stood there eating until I was full. But remember... dessert! I took one bite of the cobbler and put my fork down. At this point I gave up on those restricting jeans and opted for some comfy sweatpants. Thanks Mike (that may be sarcasm) because now I am half laying on my couch looking like a freshly fed tick and barely able to roll to my feet to go grab something to drink. I get the sampler, it's expensive but enough for me to eat over 3days. I put the brisket in some chili when I get home, delicious. It's small here family run vibe but I like that. The seating area is smallish but they have an outdoor area near the smoker to sit on a nice day. The sides are decent I stick with coleslaw and beans. Great texture and flavors. Pretty straight forward BBQ place. Good price and good portions. Friendly staff. I love how they are nested in a small area off a freeway stop. Wouldn't have found it without yelp unless you are a local. They have a silly bird statue in front of the restaurant and a quaint picnic area to enjoy your BBQ on a sunny afternoon. My fiancé and I were excited to try the rib shack since it had such great reviews. We were also lured in by the smoker cooking outside. The restaurant is very simple, and the cashier was pleasant, nothing special about the interactions. We were able to find some seating inside. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and the Big rib they offer on the weekends. We also got potato salad, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. Overall we spent like $70. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed with the quality. The pulled pork was dry, the rib didn't have that much flavor, the baked beans were hard, the potato salad tasted pretty generic, and the peach cobbler was way too mushy. On my way back from Temecula, I called and spoke to a very nice young lady who told me she would save the nights last rib for me. I wanted to try a little of everything do I ordered the beef rib, a half rack of pork ribs, a 1/4 Smoked chicken and a sausage. Beans and Cole Slaw. I got out of there for a little under a hundred bucks. Beef rib a little chewy but good flavor. Pork ribs. Very tasty nice rub and not over cooked. Chicken very good well seasoned and smoked. Delicious bbq! Plenty of options to choose from for entrees and sides. I personally love the Pulled Pork sandwich they have. Very reasonably priced and offer catering as well which we have used for an event. I live on the other end of San Diego so I don't venture out towards the county's northern borders all too often. If I do I'm most likely to go north on I-5 as opposed to I-15. With Karen being the NCSD resident guru she has tipped me on the delicious offerings of The Rib Shack as it's her favorite place in the county to get barbecue. Because of our trips I was able to have barbecue here twice within the last year. VENUE: While not exactly a hole-in-the-wall, the restaurant's no-frills in terms of the space. Somewhat limited dining space and somewhat limited parking space as well. A lot of people just take their orders to-go. SERVICE: Good service. As with most barbecue places in order to secure what you want your best best is to call ahead and pick up your order as early as possible. The first time I was here they had limited meat selection and I was essentially limited to hot links, chicken and catfish, which isn't necessarily your typical barbecue meats. Although the barbecue dinners are quite filling and come with two sides, the best thing to get is the sampler platter ($43) which comes with all the typical barbecue meat offerings and *three* sides. Plenty enough to feed a family of four for a meal or in the case of two people, multiple meals. Sampler platter contains six meats: pulled pork, chicken, ribs, brisket, trip tip and a hot link. - Ribs: my most favorite offering and since they are "The Rib Shack", it is also their signature meat. Meat is flavorful and falls off the bone. - Hot link: second favorite meat. The sausage is a bit on the spicy side. - Chicken: meat is moist and skins are flavorful. - Pulled pork: the meat is still relatively structured but meat is a little on the dry side. - Tri tip: Good coloring on the meat's edges but a little on the dry side. - Brisket: Too dry plus too much char on the edges. Although I prefer brisket to ribs in general brisket is a bit harder to get right. Should the meats be dry it helps to dip them in the sauce. Two sauces are offered - a vinegar-based sauce and another sauce which is more spicy. Although both do add flavor and the sauces are good in and of itself, I'm personally not much of a sauce person. - Catfish: had this on my first visit. Not remarkable as I forgot what it tasted like. Sides: Mac and cheese is quite cheesy and Karen and I are fans of their potato salad as it's not overtly too creamy and contains a generous amount of potatoes. People like the fried okra here but I haven't tried it yet so I will do so on a future visit. Dessert is a peach cobbler, which you can also get free with the Yelp check-in. It's decent (lots of peach pieces but I also like my cobblers to have a good amount of bread) but something's missing if you don't have ice cream. The fridge has a good amount of sodas that are meant to complement with your barbecue. I'd go back here for subsequent visits but I think I may just stick to the ribs. I also hear that beef ribs are sold only on Fridays and Saturdays and they are so popular that they require at least calling it in to reserve your order as they sell out *fast*. read more

My wife and I dropped by here today for lunch. Ate in the car but they did have outdoor seating. Both of us had the tri-tip sandwiches. I had fries and my wife had the coleslaw. The meat was extremely tender and flavorful. They came on a very good bun. They provided a large amount of sauce, probably twice as much as needed. It was very thick and tasty. I appreciate having more than needed. The fries were freshly cooked and well seasoned. The coleslaw was moist, but not soaked in sauce. Also fresh tasty. Very friendly and rightfully busy. Well worth the drive. Went with my friend and made the trek from North County. We were fortunate to get a spot right away since this area has limited parking. Walked in and ordered immediately. Our food was ready in about five minutes and was just the right temperature. I ordered the brisket with fried okra and potato salad. The portion was huge and the flavors were just right. I didn't have to add any addition bbq sauce or other condiments. I used what they provided. The brisket was moist and the fried okra was perfectly fried. The potato salad was the perfect compliment to add to the mix. We dined outside next to the bbq our pit and enjoyed our meals in the quiet mountainside of Fallbrook.
