New favorite BBQ spot in Abilene. Great food and prices. Can't wait to go back for more. Had the brisket sandwich and potato salad

Two foodies from Houston,…read more On a road trip, we decided to try Abilene BBQ. The outside and inside are both clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and greeted us at the door. We ordered two 2 meat plates with sides. Order 1: rib and brisket with green beans and macaroni salad with jalapeño corn bread. Order 2: brisket and grilled chicken with pinto beans and potato salad. Unfortunately, the food was not to our likening. The green beans taste like they were from a can and macaroni salad didn't taste fresh, it tasted like refrigerator. Potato salad was whipped and pinto beans had an odd taste, couldn't make it out. Rob had too much black pepper and the other meats really didn't have a good smoke flavor. No comment on the BBQ sauce. With two drinks, we paid about $50.00 If you enjoy meats that don't have a Smokey flavor, this may be to your place. As we like to say, give it a try for yourselves since we all have different tastes buds.

Last time through, I ordered 2 lbs of chopped beef and told her a pint of bbq sauce. When i looked at my ticket, they charged for the pint of sauce and my normal free sauce wasn't included. Today, I ordered 4 lbs of meet at 1:33 and it took 20 minutes with a line of cars behind me. I had already waited in line for maybe 10 minutes. It was 11:33 and they open at 11:00 and they were already out of chicken. So, they ask if i want pickle and onions and I said yes. Finally got home and opened the bag and no pickle and onions. I opened the chopped beef and these globs of fat were laying right on top. Don't have high hopes for the rest of it. Their "pulled pork" is actually shredded, heavily sauced with something and has a real wanky taste. It will hit the trash.

Absolutely some of the best BBQ I've had in ages - and I'm a bbq snob from Kansas City!…read more We had the sampler (brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and one each of the mild and spicy sausages). I fully expected that one or two of the meats would be good and the rest just passable. I was wrong. Every single bite was spectacular. We also had the brisket and queso chips and pig candy - both were really tasty; the chips especially were very fresh and sprinkled with just a touch of bbq rub. We arrived a few minutes before they opened on a warm Saturday and the wait was about 75 minutes or so. Definitely worth standing in line for. There's ample outdoor (but covered) seating and plenty of good music playing, plus cornhole games if you're feeling competitive. Jays will be our go-to for BBQ the next time we're in Abilene! PS - if it's still available when you go, be sure to try the cherry chipotle sauce - it's amazing!

They do have restrooms so that's nice. The line gets long and they are slow in taking orders and getting the food out. We arrived around 11:15 on a Friday and the line was already long so we decided we would order to go as we need to get to Lubbock before 3:00pm. We ordered the Texas Trinity to go. This place has charm and lots of stuff to look at while waiting in the long slow line. You can go up and order beer to drink in line but my thought is that the beer is over price. Some places have free beer or free water while you wait outside in the Texas heat, not here. So the food we got made it all the way back to eat in Houston on Sunday when we got back. The true test of good BBQ is how it taste when you reheat it, all the food was good but the brisket was a bit dry 8/10, the sausage was nice 9/10 and the pork rib was good 9/10. I recommend you try Jays BBQ when in the city of Abilene, Texas

They had a special brunch buffet going on but we opted for the regular brunch menu and it did not disappoint! My husband had the Smokehouse breakfast, I had the a Biscuits & Gravy, and we shared the pancakes. We didn't get our servers names but she was very sweet and friendly! We loved it all and this is definitely going to be on our regular rotation for brunch spots!

(chips were pretty good) The salmon was overcooked and the grilled broccoli practically raw. This meal was so underwhelming it reminded me of maybe something you might pick up in a grocery store in that section where people who don't cook go to get ready-made meals. It was right at that level. Service- Two or three stars. Mediocre. I've been here once before, btw, and that experience was probably an overall 3-star. This time was right before a show at the convention center next door. You'd think that maybe the restaurant would have been prepared for a crowd? Apparently not, since our food was slow to come (the table next to us had both of their steaks comp'ed due to slow service and not being cooked as asked). When I asked for a wine list, the server stated that he would "try to find one", and it took awhile. And the restaurant was probably only about 60% full. I mean, if I'm going to wait forever for my food, at least let me be drinking while I wait! The appetizer arrived with our food, btw. Love that... Ambiance: Five Stars. The restaurant looks nice. Get your act together, Smokehouse! It would be nice if we could count on a nice meal before a show without having to Uber to and from the hotel/venue for it.

Perini Ranch Steakhouse is outstanding!…read more The 16-ounce ribeye was excellent. The beef quality was superb--thick-cut, tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned without overpowering its natural flavor. While the edges were cooked slightly beyond medium due to the uneven cut, that's a very minor critique. The grilled asparagus was delicious, and the green chile hominy was absolutely amazing. Overall, I would give Perini Ranch Steakhouse a 98 out of 100. The food, atmosphere, and quality were exceptional, making it one of the best of the steakhouses I've experienced.

We took the onions and cucumbers off our salad due to dietary issues and that left us with lettuce, mushrooms, and dressing. Our burger was the best part. It was cooked well, and the bun was soft. The strawberry shortcake was disappointing. The fruit was stewed and the biscuits were hard with just room temp heavy cream to offset the temperature of the fruit. For ambiance, it was nothing to write home about. Very busy and very loud, but it was a Saturday evening so that was to be expected. What I didn't expect was the lack of air conditioning in July. It was over 100 degrees that day, and it was cooler outside. Unacceptable for Texas in July when you're seating tables 3' from each other. Our server was good. She was attentive, and kept our water glasses filled. We may try again once the weather cools down.
