I am in love. I've been following The Rhined on Instagram and finally had a chance to stop in this past Sunday. I must admit, even though I had been dying to stop in, I was worried The Rhined had been over-hyped and I would leave feeling disappointed - but not even close. I am a lover of funky, earthy, weird wines and it is a blessing to have found a place that has weird, earthy, funky, DELICIOUS cheeses. I regret not catching the employee's name who helped me (woman, short curly hair) because she was fantastic. Super knowledgeable, to the point where both I and another customer thought she was the owner. But what I loved most was that when I said I liked the weird stuff, it wasn't met with "Oh, are you sure?" but instead great enthusiasm and excellent recommendations. I left with the Willoghby and the Dancing Fern, and they are both full of mushroomy flavors and earthy goodness. I very much look forward to having The Rhined be my go-to cheese shop! P.S. I didn't get any wine while I was there, but I did scope out the bottles and they have a solid selection. read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon - It wasn't busy, but we had a great time! The wine selection is great. We bought a bottle and paid the corkage fee - which was still a very reasonable price. Loved the midwestern cheese plate. We had great service, and they provided super knowledgeable information about the cheeses we were eating. Definitely recommend coming here for delicious wine and cheese! read more

I used to frequent the cheese shop inside Findlay, now I frequently find myself here, across the street. Stephanie is a wonderful cheese monger and always has a fabulous selection of cheeses in the case. She also offers a small but decent selection of wines and beer. The shop is small with a couple of tables and seats at the bar. Cozy, but it can get crowded. We love the cheese flights and usually get the stinky cheeses or the cheese monger's choice. During the winter months Stephanie offers a traditional Raclette, so if you get the chance you should to try it (typically on Wednesdays). That is one delicious place. My Wife bought tickets to the Cheese 101 class. Great way to spend an evening and learn something. We tasted couple of cheeses from the mildest kwark to really intense Alphorn. Baguette was provided and drinks were available for purchase. It was a fun easy casual evening and at the end of the class we got 10% off of the cheese, so we continued the tasting at home. Great specialty shop. Sadly, they did not have any vintage aged hard cheeses, which are my absolute favorites. Hope they will bring some for the winter. read more

My friend and I came here for the first time tonight for the last Raclette night. I was underwhelmed with the whole experience. When we walked in it smelled great, like stinky cheese! Very small area though, it looked like a deli. We got wine that was recommended to us, which was great. When we asked about what we could get the cheese scraped onto, they just gave us one option - ham, potatoes, veggies. I wish I could've gotten just veggies. The veggies were marinated or pickled and was really good! Potatoes were good too but I didn't like that the ham was lunch meat style, I expected something more like chunks. The arugula was a god touch also. The idea of it was better than it was executed. I was excited about seeing the cheese scraped onto my meal, but they do that in the back which was kinda disappointing. My friends came out first, and it looked like the cheese was hardened a bit like it was sitting, mine came 5-10 minutes later.... I would not come back here for raclette it wasn't a great experience. I really didn't like that I couldn't get a flight of wine (only on fri and sat) and the cheapest glass was $8. But- I would come back to try their cheese board. read more

Wine and Cheese bar in Cincinnati - Love it! Our group was walking around Findlay Market and stumbled upon "The Rhined" and we sure are glad we did! This restaurant has tons of cheese, and you are sure to be blown away! We all did a sample board and it didn't disappoint. This is the third cheese place I've been to around Ohio and Western Pennsylvania (I'm guessing it's turning into a trend?) and this is probably the best one I've been to so far. I came here on a week night with a group of friends for the first time--first off, the space is very cute and quaint. I wouldn't recommend large groups for the inside area--mostly because there will be no room for other customers, but the outside area was perfect for our large and loud group. The worker seemed to be a little overwhelmed by our orders but she was friendly and very thorough when letting us each know about our cheese flights. The wine and cheese flights were both delicious. I went here on Raclette night with high expectations and was very disappointed. The meal was prepared in the back, where we couldn't see the fresh cheese being pouring onto our meal. We also had one meal to choose from, ham & potatoes. By the time I received my food the cheese was already hard, I didn't get to experience the gooey meltiness. I never thought I would love any kind of cheese as much as I love the cheeses at the Rhined. It's a cool little spot right across from Findley Market in historic OTR. They serve beer and wine along with some amazing cheese plates, all perfectly complemented with breads, crackers, berries, jams and pickled vegetables. I was not a cheese fan, aside from cheddar, but The Rhined has broadened my horizons. They also sell cheese by the lb to take home (you can get as much or as little as you want). The owner may know more about cheese and the processes involved in making cheese than anyone in the city. Do yourself a favor and get some house made pimento cheese and some crostini's to take home (the spicy is my fav). I've never liked pimento cheese but this stuff is next level. read more

This little spot is one of my favorites in the area. It's super cute, and has everything I need to have a great time. The staff is amazing-super sweet, and always knowledgeable. The staff here (and I hate to pick favorites, but Kristen is my favorite) are so knowledgeable and friendly I can't get over it. They asked us what types of cheeses we liked, and built us a platter based on the tiny bit of information we gave them that was amazing. This shop is fabulous. We have gone several times, had mimosas and cheese there, and purchased some things for home, and nothing disappointed in the least. Stopped into The Rhined on Saturday afternoon around 4 and was easily able to sit down to have a flight of cheese and a glass of wine (YES they sell wine now! And bourbon...). We loved the options of the flights: stinky, soft, midwest, bleu, or the cheese monger's choice. We opted for the cheese monger route, also letting him know that we prefer sharper cheeses and he totally delivered! We had three cows milk cheeses: a triple cream, an aged cheddar, and a swiss that were all really amazing, we hardly even used the crostini that was provided, along with house sugared nuts and dried fruit. Everything was super yummy and service was awesome. I love that they are right across from Findlay Market, so in the bustle of the shopping street and a great spot to stop in and pick up cheese and wine (or an adult lunchable!) or sit and enjoy. I thought their prices were VERY reasonable. It was $12 for the cheese plate and we could've opted to add meat for an extra $5 - under $20 for an awesome charcuterie is amazing! The wines by the glass were in the $12-15 range but were on the natural end of wine, and might not be something you've heard of before so also a great chance to try something new! read more

Finally, a proper Cheesemonger in Cincinnati! This is what cheese exploration and purchasing should be! And it only just opened - they don't even have their liquor license yet. I can only imagine how fun The Rhined will be when it hits its full stride and can serve wine and beer pairings. The owners are a very likable young couple that are infectiously friendly, enthusiastic and KNOWLEDGEABLE about cheese, particularly domestic cheeses. The cheese selection is not a massive, daunting expanse of cheeses. Rather, it's a small, carefully selected - I'd say "curated" if I were a snob, but I'm not so I'll stick with "selected" - representation of small, well-researched cheese makers from across the U.S. and a few from Europe. They let you taste everything and create the perfect environment to try new cheese. Between the top flight cheese, fun location, and owners you just want to root for and support, I defy you to go here and not enjoy the experience. I plan to be a regular here! read more

I have put off writing this review for a while because I couldn't find the right words. And I don't think I ever will, because words do not do this place justice. It is possibly my favorite place in OTR, or maybe the city! I went for the first time for their Raclette Night and boy did it not disappoint! The cheese is amazing and it's everything I could have dreamt for. We also got a cheese flight and it was so hard to choose just one, they have so many great options! We ended up just letting the staff choose some for us because they are super knowledgeable and friendly! I now continue to come back every single week for lunch for their sandwich of the week. Every week it blows my mind. They are that good. Last week was a spinach and artichoke grilled cheese with a buffalo mozzarella. This week was a grilled cheese with herbed butter, Granny Smith apples, and bacon jam. I cannot give enough high praises for how fresh and delicious all of the cheese is. And every time we go in they are creating the most amazing looking cheese boards! They have adult "lunchables" that include cheese and meats that are perfect for grabbing something on the go! I also have to give a HUGE shoutout to Kelsey! She is always there to make our sandwiches and suggest amazing cheeses, she's never steered me wrong when I ask for some of her favorites! We shared the Midwestern cheese board between two people. The portion was perfect. Very diverse and excellent cheese. The dried figs were good and the candied pecans were my favorite! Our waitress gave us cute stories about the different cheeses and what wines would go well. We didn't try the wine but next time we will. Our waitress was so sweet and personable. I stopped into this stinking adorable place during their grand opening last Friday and boy, it just gives me all the feels. It is quaint and bright and airy and welcoming. Exactly where I wanted to be to wine-d (see what I did there) down from the work week. It was hopping when I arrived, but my friends had snagged a high top table along the side wall. There were 3 high top tables and bar/counter seating. Many people were standing since it was so busy, but no one seemed to mind. The menu is simple, with a few different cheese board options and something labeled as an "adult lunchable". I did not inquire about it but I can only imagine it has something to do with meat and cheese and everything wonderful. I 100% plan on getting one next time I visit. My friends started with a Rose and I started with a delish red blend out of California. As we sipped our wine and chatted, we ordered a "cheesemongers choice" cheese plate. This plate is The Rhined's version of "chefs choice" so we knew we couldn't go wrong. We waited with cheesy anticipation (a little longer than we expected but they were HUSTLING behind the counter to service all of the customers) and once the plate came out, we were not disappointed. The employee took the time to explain each cheese, what it pairs well with, the country of origin, the flavor notes, etc. and I was seriously impressed. She was a total cheese expert and little does she know, my new best friend. At this point we ordered glasses of bubbly as they were on special for the grand opening, and dug into the good stuff. On our plate was a mild hard French cheese that paired super well with the fruit preserves and toasted bread that also came with the cheese. The second was a buttery, spreadable cheese that was light and paired well with dried fig. Last was a mild bleu cheese that was simply delicious on its own. Also on the plate was toasted bread, dried fruit, nuts and fruit preserves. The display was stunning and the cheese was phenomenal. The best part about this place - I messaged them on Instagram later that evening just to congratulate them on the great event and say that I was a fan and whomever runs their social media, responded quickly saying thank you and that they cant wait to see me again. I love cheese and The Rhined has the best! While they specialize in fine domestic cheese, they do also offer some international flavors as well. They offer in house cheese flights, weekly sandwich specials and wine and beer. It is the perfect snack. Their knowledge of cheese is quite extensive. They can explain where each and every cheese comes from and always have unique facts about the farms. We were just going to have some samples, then saw a nice beer on the menu we wanted to try, we went out to the nice little courtyard to enjoy our beer and saw what a cheese flight encompassed, so we ordered the cheesemonger's favorites. That came with some lovely baguette slices and dried fruits and jam, oh and candied pecans. It was delightful for the three of us including our 20 year old son. It was definitely a filling snack.!
