We didn't know where we were going to eat tonight and we found The Reserve. Everything was delicious. We got the queso and it was table side and so delicious with it being warm. The chips are multicolored and the salsa is served warm, which makes all the difference. The food came out so quick! And the service was also very good and super fast. We got a bit of everything. Michelle gave us great recommendations. They just came out with a pabalano pasta and that was amazing! A bit spicy but so good! Three of us sat at the bar and had great service - Sisum is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Trompo Tacos on corn shells are AWESOME! The vibes were immaculate. As soon as we walked in,there's a little sitting area and they had a light ring to take pictures! It was a large restaurant with inside and outside sitting and a dog friendly patio! My brother's Trompo tower was literally a showstopper. The presentation is amazing and it comes with all of the fixin's. We all loved it and shared it! Yet in past visits we continue to go again and again but end up waiting a ridiculous amount of time for our food, the restaurant itself look amazing, especially the bar and patio space. My favorite brunch spot around. I love their Spanish cinnamon coffee and trendy decor. Most of all I love that they are next to a courtyard that allows me to enjoy my food and drinks while keeping an eye on my kid as he's running around. I really would like to see this restaurant do well! I love its location and love the decor. And oh yah, I love that there's patio seating at a bar. I could so see myself hear during happy hour or at one of their fun and lovely brunches. The service here is a little lagging the food quality can be described as so-so. I thought both of these hiccups could have been curbed back when they first opened. In the beginning, what could have been seen as growing pains turned into stagnant mediocrity over time. They had happy hour til I think 10 on a Thursday night which was cool but beware. If you order the giant margarita frozen you will get charged full price! Your waiter might suggest frozen but they won't tell you that frozen means full price and only on the rocks is happy hour prices. And if you think it'll say it on the menu... you're wrong. It won't. So make sure to double check how much things are. As far as food, the chips and salsa were ok, but we wanted to get some food too. We ordered the Arrachera to share and it was absolutely disgusting! It tasted like old meat. I took 2 bites and stopped because I didn't want to get sick. We sent it back and didn't order anything else because it ruined my appetite. The chicken quesadilla that my cousin got was dry but better than our so called "steak". When we got the bill we saw the full price marg and the manager was such a jerk about it. Was headed to Thirsty Lion for some cocktails and dinner and saw this New Mexican spot and thought to give it a try. My go to at a Mexican place is a chili relleno to see if I'm going to like the rest of the menu. So I ordered the ground beef CR and the hubs got the chicken quesadillas! First off the happy hour special $9 drinks are seriously two big gulps or swallows if that. Prob need three of them to make them equal in size to a normal cocktail at a bar. The glass is heavy crystal so you can't see how small the actual drink is. If that is the same drink they normally charge $14 for I would have sent it back. Definitely great taste but not even close to worth what they are charging. Next was the chips and salsa. Chips were ok, nothing special but the salsa was warm. It was strangely warm and had no heat at all. So wasn't a fan. Strike two. Server asked what kind of sauce I wanted on my relleno and queso was an option so I went with that because I had no idea what "pearl" sauce is. The relleno came out with what looked like sausage gravy on it. A LOT of sausage gravy. I had to scrape it off and the weird thing is that it tasted like gravy. There was no cheese taste at all. It was just strange. Beans were great and rice tasted like fried rice at an Asian restaurant. It was pale and had carrots and corn in it and a very strange flavor. Husband said his quesadillas were good but they were a little overcooked and more like a crispy taco. While I'm glad we stopped to try the place I wouldn't make it a trip to visit again. Wanted to love this place! The ambiance was terrific, but that sadly, was the best part of the visit. You could only order from little iPads for the menus. The problem is when the menus don't work, they have no alternative paper copies of menus. They then redirected us to their website, but there's no descriptions of the food so we had to guess based on pictures. Took forever to get any drinks while staff stood around again staring at us and we were sitting at the bar. Food was mediocre, probably would have been good but everything was served cold. The appetizer nachos looked nothing like the picture which shows lettuce, tomato's and shredded cheese...none of that was anywhere to be found. They did have a generous amount of chicken. The refried beans had great texture but I couldn't eat them due to the amount of salt. The young lady at the front, where I ended up placing my order was very nice. The beans were excellent and the chimichanga was ok. As I am eating it along with the beans, there is what looks like beanie weenee in both my beans and chimichanga. The chicken empanada were bomb supper yummy and fresh - totally recommend it! We order the Las Gorditas we ordered one with beef fajita and one barbacoa - the meat was good, but the shell not so much? looked and tasted pre made or frozen un cooked and so NOT worth the $16 on only 2 pieces! I was so excited to try this place. The vibe and ambiance seemed very fun. That's where the good feelings ended. We went in at 5:30 on a Wednesday and there were maybe 5 people there. No biggie, they are new, so maybe the word just hasn't gotten out yet. I ordered the spicy passion fruit cocktail, and my friend ordered the Paloma. Hers was not great but not un-drinkable. Mine was horrible. It tasted like straight-up chemicals. I had my friend taste it, and she said it tasted like what she imagined antifreeze would taste like. The very young server tried to tell me that "You may not be familiar with what Mezcal tastes like." Um, no.... pretty sure I've been drinking Mezcal longer than she has been alive. But I just politely asked if I could do a house margarita instead. She brought one out, and it was definitely passable. But not as good as all the other Mexican restaurants in the area. The chips were so stale they tasted like they could have been the display that has been sitting out for weeks. The salsa was decent. Good flavor and a little heat but strange consistency. It had a lot of stringiness. It seemed almost like whatever peppers (poblano maybe?) they roasted weren't quite blended enough so that the skin separated and created this weird stringy texture. We also tried the empenadas and the queso. Both were just okay. Mid at best. It was so disappointing that we opted to go next door to the Thirsty Lion for entrees. When we walked in the door there, the place was packed. That kind of says it all. If they don't change some things up, I would be surprised if they lasted more than a year. With Rio, LaHa, and the other plethora of decent Mexican restaurants in the area, this place just isn't it. This establishment continues to disappoint. I was glad to see this place extend their hours on Saturday and decided to invite guests to join me for drinks here. While ordering I wanted to confirm their extended hours with my waitress. She looked at me in confusion stating that their hours continued to be closing Saturday night at 10pm. My guests arrived about 845pm and were just as disappointed. Promptly at 930p-940pm we were asked to pay our bill due to they'd began closing (turning down lights, closing patio bar windows etc). Service continues to be exceptionally slow after placing food and drink orders. I've given this establishment three opportunities and all three have been less than industry standards. Definitely will not be returning. Note: I attempted to show the waitress the Google search with their hours listed. She stated another guests mentioned the same disappointment but chose to close at 10pm.
