I have been coming up to Mt. Hood for... 20 years? And every time, we zipped right past Government Camp thinking there was nothing much to see. My fiance planned a wonderful mountain getaway for us, and lucky for me- we had dinner reservations here. It was so chilly in December, We had a cold mountain day, and we bundled up to go to our dinner reservations and I have to say- I wasn't expecting much when I heard the name "Grill". I was thinking- burgers, fries, your typical post-ski grub. I was wrooong! We strolled into the coziest little restaurant and were greeted by the two lovely people working there. Felt like I very sweet family vibe. They steered us in the directions of the pasta dishes we ordered, and we had the Soup of the Day to start- I believe it was some kind of Tomato bisque and that hit the spot. The Hazelnut pasta was a hit for my fiance, and I loved that he got to try such a classic Oregon flavor in a pasta- how fun. My chanterelle ravioli filled me up so fast, I also loved being able to try chanterelles in this format. Both dishes felt very creative and full of so much Oregon pride! Delicious! read more

Stopped in for our annual dinner while on the mountain. The restaurant wasn't even half full on a Friday night. Prices are pretty high but we've found that the quality is consistently good, though this year felt a bit less. I enjoyed a patty melt with sweet potato fries. Kids grilled cheeses also were enjoyed. Hamburger was good, though I liked the patty melt more. The alfredo and cod were just average. For desert, I got the chocolate torte, which was a big letdown (especially since it cost $15!). I may decide to try a new place next year. read more

We love stopping here on the way home from a day of skiing or hiking on Mount Hood. The atmosphere is relaxed but a little upscale (cloth napkins!), and the staff is always friendly. The setting is cozy but not stuffy. There is a more formal dining room along with a good-sized bar. The dining room has nice booths for quiet dining, and the bar has plenty of tables, bar seating, and two quiet TV's if you want to watch sports. The food is reliably delicious. Just dined here tonight and it was a lovely experience. The wine selection and cocktail program was great. I had the clam chowder, steak bites, wildcaught hot honey salmon, and the chocolate peanut butter. Everything was fresh, delicious and well-prepared. The staff was such a delight. Visited Mt. Hood Resort overnight. Booked a table for two and in all ways this restaurant m, from front to back of the house, goes above and beyond. Really great food. Had the honey-crusted salmon, with a cup of clam chowder. Karl the Maitre'd was so friendly. Mandy our server was funny and attentive. The owner and chef came out and introduced himself. Being longtime diners who fell in love with the 'Vous two decades ago, we were nervous about the sale. All doubt is gone. We live just north of Salem but had occasion to be in Welches to make a purchase. Since we had to go after my wife got off work we were there during dinner time and decided to follow a recommendation and try The Rendezvous Grill. The host greeting was a little awkward, but the food smelled good and the menu online was promising so we took our seat. After a few minutes we'd made our choices and waited for the waitress who finally brought us water, pointed out a couple things on the menu and said she'd be back. She wasn't "back" for 30 minutes. We'd watched as a larger party was seated, watered and their order taken. We tried to catch her attention to no avail. Had there been other options in town we would have left, but finally she came to us and was very apologetic, saying she had forgotten all about us and that she'd give us a free dessert to make up for it. She returned shortly to bring us bread then about 10 minutes or so later with our appetizers. Then at least another half an hour elapsed before our entrees arrived. The bread was outstanding. The crust was a good consistency and flavorful and the center was the perfectly soft, chewy texture I love. The Caesar salad had good fresh Romaine and a perfectly tangy, garlicky dressing. We had the fried artichoke hearts that were lightly breaded and fried to a crisp but not greasy texture. The garlic aioli had my favorite flavor of anything we had there. The appetizers gave us hope for a delectable meal, but when the Sous Vide Duck arrived (the main reason we endured the wait) it had a nice cherry wine reduction but it was rubbery chewy. I've had a lot of duck and I know it's dense and can be chewy, but not like this. This was a rather unpleasant texture, like you had just bitten into a kid's squish toy. The skin was supposed to be seared, but it wasn't as crispy as I was hoping. The flavor of the duck was good but with a $36 entree I expect amazing. The mashed potatoes didn't have a lot of flavor and needed salt and pepper for me to eat them. The squash and asparagus were nice, but had some textural issues and not a ton of flavor. We also had the New York Steak bites which were overdone and under seasoned. I can forgive a waitress for forgetting we were there, even though the wait time got extremely frustrating. But when the bread, salad and fried artichokes far outshine the high end entree and any kind of steak, I can't give it any more than 3 stars. Especially considering the price. The waitress made good on her promise to comp us with a free dessert, a key lime pie my wife had been craving and thoroughly enjoyed. But if we're ever up that way again, we'll make our dining plans for elsewhere. I don't normally like to give reviews like this, but this cost us valuable time, 1.5 hrs, as well as money and for that we expect much more. read more

We were looking for a place to eat while up here and ended up at Rendezvous. This is such a great place. I didn't see too much of the inside, we just walked through on our way to a patio table. The outside dining area was really cute, a lot of plants and flowers. Apps, entrees, dessert, we did the whole deal. Everything was great. I had Halibut piccata (not a permanent menu item) and it was better than anything I've had in the city in years. We also had crème brûlée for dessert which was delightful. Enjoyed a lovely dinner here during a Labor Day weekend trip to Welches. I had the salmon with mango salsa while my husband enjoyed a New York steak. Meals were fresh, well prepared with generous sides of vegetables, and promptly served. The staff was kind and gave honest feedback when we asked about certain menu items. The sourdough bread served before our dinners came out was excellent, as was the lemon cheesecake we had for dessert. Ambiance was that of a casual country club. Our large party ordered too many dishes to remember, most were excellent. Be careful not to fill-up on the warm scrumptious bread. Wish I took more photos. The only slight let down was the Swiss Raclette. The cheese just didn't have enough pop. And while the Bourbon Molasses Glazed Pork Chop was delicious, the price point is just too high. After a hiatus from the mountain cuisine scene, I ventured out last week for a dinner at the Rendezvous, yes, by myself. I chose to sit at the bar as it was after the dinner rush, and I heard friendly voices! Glad I made the choice. The dinner was superb! Ordered the Calamari and it was as fresh and delicious as if it came right from Monterey Bay! The New York Steak was delicious, but the potatoes were creamy and oh so yummy! Vegetables done just the way I like them, crisp but cooked! But the best part? Getting to know Tim, Alex, Karl (with a K!) and their incredible staff! Will I be back? This is a very nice place. I had the roasted pork loin sandwich and substituted a side salad for fries. I also had a draft beer - a local Kolsch. The food quality was excellent, the pork was flavorful and the sandwich bread was fantastic. It really hit the spot. You can always tell a good place if the servers have been there awhile, and most of the servers and bartender were mid-adult age and seemed quite personable. All their food is fabulous, and beautifully plated. My Husband LOVES their salmon fish & chips. I love their burgers, ravioli, steaks, luxurious soups and generous salads. This is amazing!! We haven't eat out for about 3 month and this place opened up. First restaurant post quarantine. I know on google it still says delivery only but we did sit at the restaurant table! The waiters and waitresses all wear face mask and they have definitely redesign the table so that every table is quite apart. Also, they said they dispose their menu after customers use it. Quite convenient. We came here after a hike so we are super hungry and had ordered way more food. For appetizer we ordered fried jalapeño calamari and side of string fries. The calamari is really good, and they do fry their lemon as well. First time I tried fried lemon, not sour at all but just refreshing! It actually becomes my personal favorite. It also coming with a light white dipping sauce. Not sure what exactly it is but never had anything like that before. And the fried are quite good, shoe string fries can never go wrong. For the main dishes, we ordered their burger and chicken piccata. The burger is great a bit over cooked. We swapped fries to sweet potato fries. It's quite tender inside and crispy out. Definitely worth it! The best part is the chicken Piccata! I can't tell you how good it is. I think that's one of their special so if you see it on the menu make sure you order it. Their chicken is so juicy and the sauce with capers is so thick and flavored. The vegetable come with the dish is a bit picked than normal boiled ones, which add on another layer of complexity.
