We asked for extra sauce and WOW did they comply! They do not skimp on toppings like most places. You get a wonderful amount of toppings, cheese and their tomato sauce is excellent! And!!! I'm not one for "thin crust" and Zig Zag Inn has THE BEST thick, chewy delicious pizza crust I've ever eaten! And, their pizza sizes are beautifully large ! We were totally amazed and VERY happy customers! The waitress was so wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, kind and patient with us (we had 2 young children with us). And!!! Horrible quality of food. I've been coming to this place for years but the food was inedible. I got it to go. So, nothing I could say at the time. The chicken was rock hard and dry. Dropped in for dinner with friends. Three had the fish and chips, I tried the pot roast. The fish was very good. They all had the three piece as opposed to the two. You get three large pieces of hand dipped crispy fish. Good flavor. Fries are fine. Coleslaw is fine. If you're into tartar get extra, there is a lot of fish. I would think this meal is five star. Problem arose with the pot roast. Meat was tender, but bland. Gravy was awful. Tasted like jar bought. Kind of ruined the 'roast'. Mashed potatoes OK. Veggies were poor. Looked steamed? We stopped in while visiting the area and were pleasantly surprised. Sometimes it can be hard to judge restaurants in smaller towns based on online reviews alone, but Zig Zag Inn absolutely delivered. We ordered a pepperoni, olive, and pineapple pizza, and it was delicious. The toppings were generous, the flavors were great together, and the crust was especially good--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and clearly made with care. We also tried a fresh green salad and a cup of clam chowder to start. Both were fresh, flavorful, and a great way to begin the meal. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the staff. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and quick without making us feel rushed. Great service can make all the difference, and they did an excellent job. My husband has childhood dreams about the pizza at this place. I'm not a huge pizza person, but can deal with Hawaiian. I ordered a So-Co and -ginger and DH a beer. My drink was watered down with lots of ICE, but happy they had Southern Comfort. The bartender was very nice. The pizza sucked. The pineapple was literally just piled on out of the can. Not edible for me. DH just picked off all the pineapple (he hates Hawaiian and did it for me) and ate the whole thing, save one piece. I almost thought about getting something else, but didn't. Service was ok, but the messed up part of the order (I acknowledge that fish and chips with mashed potatoes instead of fries is a bit odd, but if you're going to offer the option then I'd like to actually get what I asked for.) They said they could switch it but it would "take a while" and I didn't want the other food to get cold before getting it home.... The fish itself was two parts batter to one part fish and left my stomach in knots for the rest of the night. The clam chowder was watery and tasteless. Our family of 4 were staying nearby for a long woodsy weekend and we stopped by here for lunch and we loved it! The food options were varied and everyone loved their meal. Not super fancy but it checked all the boxes. And the kids got some stuffies from the little gift store and they were psyched about it. We were so into it we returned the next day for lunch. I was just telling hubby, on our way back from Prineville, that we should stop for dinner, at our favorite restaurant, that 'reminds me of Norway!', and we just passed by. He made a U-turn, but they're not open. We spotted this restaurant, right across the highway, we pulled in and found out they're open still. Stopped by this place for dinner with a big group of friends during our recent trip to Oregon. The ambience was nice and we were promptly seated and menus were handed out. Wow - You name it they have it all on their menu. Pasta, pizza, sandwich, burger, everything is in there. We ordered their pesto chicken fettucine, fettucine alfredo, spicy chicken calzone (the best dish out of everything we ordered but it had a kick to it), ravioli, zig zag wings & garlic breadsticks. The food was okay. Almost everything we ordered was served with the same marinara sauce. The alfredo and pesto pasta dishes lacked seasoning as well. For dessert we ordered a dense chocolate cake which was decent. Food arrived quickly but they did mess up our wings sauce but we were hungry so did not send it back. I admitted to the waitress that I made a terrible mistake judging this restaurant by its old, creepy building (built in 1927) and nearly passing it up to go to Subway instead. We took a chance and ordered a few different things: a chef's salad - which was huge - burgers, and a calzone to take back onto our hotel room for dinner. Enjoyed a relaxing evening here. Service was prompt and we enjoyed the cabin-y feel. Pizza was good, I had the #10 combination. It's your average pizza. I enjoyed the Moroccan coffee and it was boozy and very tasty. I was able to taste the fish and chips. It was good, needed a little salt, but not quite as good as the other local place. Zig Zag Inn is a classic place for me and my family. We came back from Mt. Hood and decided it would be fun to try it again, because we hadn't been for a while. We ordered malts and they were so good! My daughter ordered spaghetti and one meatball, and the cost for that was $3.75 which amazed me, and it was very high quality and perfect for the weather. I got a French dip and two pieces of garlic toast, and we had to get more garlic toast because we all loved it. My daughters really liked the decor, and they said it was cozy. They loved the antlers and the licenses plates. I do think it was a pretty epic restaurant. The lady that served us was so nice, she never messed up and she told us the flavors of the milkshakes very clearly and she had to carry quite a bit, but was very steady. Really great experience here! We were in and out within 30 mins with our food on a packed Saturday night. The food was definitely comfort food.
