Cascade Dining Room is the perfect spot to grab lunch or dinner after a long day in the snow. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, exactly what you hope for after being out in the cold, and it makes the whole experience feel warm and inviting. The service was outstanding. Even though they were clearly very busy, the staff was attentive, kind, and made us feel well taken care of the entire time. The Caesar salad was delicious and surprisingly filling. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the French fries were truly out of this world, I've never had fries like that, and I still think about them to this day! PNW roadtrip, one night we were staying in the Timberline lodge - we made a reservation here and had a wonderful meal! The short rib, salmon and chicken were so darned good. And the porcini bisque was manna from heaven I almost ordered it for dessert. But I ordered the delicious panna cotta and the kids ordered a skillet cookie - this meal just got better and better. The delicious and fun ln lunch buffet is no more. Then there is no reason for dining here anymore. It's a gorgeous little restaurant with a lot of charm and great views! But, service is consistently bad - I have been a dozen times. Prices are overblown for the offer. First time I see a burger being $32! Food is good but not great. Me and my two adult sons took my wife up here for her birthday for an early brunch and to play around a little bit in the snow. There were only a couple of other people in the restaurant, but yet it took forever for our server to come help us. I had tried to hand motion, the hostess, a couple of times when they walked by and either they did not see my hand motion or they ignored me. I was finally able to get noticed I was able to get a server to come over. When she got to our table, she seemed like she was rushed, but she was very polite. Not sure what she was rushed for because at that time, it was not very busy yet. Me and my two adult sons ordered the timber lined hash, and my wife ordered the Pucci sandwich. They were very tasty and they did look good upon presentation, but me and my son's thought that our hash did not contain enough steak in it to go with the potatoes and everything else. It did taste very good though however. My wife did enjoy her sandwich. The ambience is typical for a dining room in a mountain lodge at a ski resort and it felt very cozy. read more

SO disappointed. Came here for our annual Mt. Hood trip with a day planned to frolic at Timberline. As we always do, we'd made reservations for brunch and their awesome buffet. But upon arriving, we learned that they did away with the buffet! It's now standard table service with an a la carte menu. We were heartbroken, as we've been enjoying the buffet for years and a restaurant with ambiance that is hard to beat. I'm also seeing that I'm not the first Yelper to comment their disappointment about this change (for the worse) at Timberline. I really hope they bring it back. read more

Atmosphere 10/10. Food and service, pathetic. I have worked in hospitality for 50 years so I know what food and service should be. Waited 20 minutes for the initial greet. Ordered butter trio and meatballs for starters. 3 small scoops of butter for $14 with some sliced bread, seriously? Not even good. Got shrimp instead of meatballs. Server apologized, he put order in wrong and he said he would take it off the bill. He didn't. $28 for 4 SMALL, bland shrimp. I ordered Cippinno for $56. On a scale of 1-10 it was a 3. A few shrimp, 4 mussels, a few overcooked bay scallops, and some overcooked salmon. Broth had ZERO flavor. When I asked my other 3 guests how their food was, they all said " ok". The bill was so confusing the server even had trouble explaining it, and culinary fees, wtf??? Timberline, step up your game. For this world class venue and for the prices you charge you should hire a real chef and train your servers. I would not dine here again, maybe a drink in the bar. Came here twice within three weeks. My first experience was mid. So I thought I'd try again. My second experience was mid. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are seeing to give five stars. The food over promises and under delivers. My experience was that the lemon dessert was grainy. The cookie skillet was low on sugar and high on almond extract. The cheese board was good. The entrees were just a bummer. Honestly get a pizza at the bar cause THAT is 5 stars. And way cheaper. And way faster. read more

Food here exists for convenience, no other reason. Came in for lunch on a Saturday after exploring Trillium Lake. There was no wait to be seated. For some reason, I was led to believe that there was a menu, but it was buffet-only. Choices were okay. There was a less-than-prime rib, chicken breast, a fish, a few salads, a couple soups, and other odds and ends. I'm not a sweets guy, but desserts were looking pretty thin. Ended up serving myself a piece of completely raw chicken from the tray. It was covered in sauce, but fully uncooked inside. I let the server know, and they pulled the tray immediately. I heard someone say "ewww, gross!" from the kitchen when they examined it. I didn't make a big fuss about it. Service was okay initially, and then super apologetic after the raw chicken fiasco. They comped my buffet and the beer that I was drinking, without me asking. Standalone food value certainly isn't there for the price, but you're paying to dine in a historical lodge on top of a mountain. read more

Excellent and friendly service. The melon gazpacho is absolutely incredible and a must try. The king mushroom orzo was bland and the seared chicken isn't worth the price (41.00) for boring and bland. We had both these entrees last year and they were fabulous. Must be an off day but these entrees were not worth it tonight. Sadly, this was probably our last visit to the Cascade Dining Room. One bad meal happens occasionally, two bad visits should have been enough but 3 in a row and it's time to throw in the towel. The tables were about 1/3 occupied at 10am on Sunday morning. We waited a very long time to be seated at a table that had bits of food stuck to it. The good: the scones were tasty as were the mini frittatas but they ran out and were not restocked. My daughter and I shared one of each. The bad: The oatmeal resembled broth for texture and was lukewarm at best. Scrambled eggs never materialized so we didn't try them. Breakfast potatoes were frozen wedges cooked with peppers and onions and very soggy and wrinkly. Frozen potatoes don't belong in a high end establishment. The ham and sausages were good quality but could have used some browning on the grill before being put in the steam tray. They prefilled small cups with waffle batter however the amount inside will not make a complete waffle; it was more of a lacy snowflake. Biscuits and gravy were the worst let down. The gravy was lukewarm and it literally stayed in a pile on the biscuit, the sausage crumbles were stone cold inside. They supposedly have great bakers. If so why are they using Sisco frozen biscuits? At least defrost them before putting in the basket. Our family has a long history at the lodge; my grandfather was an engineer and blacksmith with the forest service and his hands lovingly touched much of the ironwork so I'll go back....just not to eat! No ifs, ands, or buts about it, this place is spendy. But, everything at Timberline is on the expensive side, so that should be expected. At least you get what you pay for, the food is all delicious! For dinner I had the mushroom pasta one night and added the lamb to it. I was expecting the lamb to be ground and distributed into the pasta, but instead it was a super tender, bone-in filet. My friend got the same dish but added the duck, we shared bites and while the lamb was delicious, the duck was positively an 11/10! But the pasta was incredibly rich and a fair portion, it really didn't need the extra meat added to it to make it a full and fulfilling meal. At breakfast, I've had the quiche as well as the classic. The potatoes with the classic are astoundingly good - crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, well seasoned and somehow not dry. I added a side of them to the quiche, which was also super dense. Both of these breakfasts were really filling and I could practically skip lunch they stuck to my ribs so well. I'm a super big fan of rum, and when I saw the maple cider I had to try it. This is a hot drink, and in my opinion it's my new favorite. I actually took a photo of the menu so that I could try to replicate this at home! It's not overly sweet and doesn't taste too strongly of maple or of lemon. Bottom line - if you're staying at the hotel, there aren't too many options for where to eat. This place has some less expensive options but ultimately you get what you pay for and everything here is ultra high quality and delicious! read more

So for this place, I want to give the service five stars, but the food only 3. Hence the four star review that split the difference. As for food, we came here for the lunch buffet. The salads were wonderful, but there was one tabouleh based one that was a little under seasoned. As for the roast meats, one of the things I didn't like was that they are very heavy on pork and beef. We had a vegetarian in our group, and our server, Ian went above and beyond to make sure she had a vegetable sausage for an entree. For side dishes, they had fried rice, roasted potatoes, and mixed vegetables. While the food was okay, everything just seemed a little bland. Desserts were decent. We went to the Timberland Lodge with little expectation because of the "covid". Could not of been happier with our "take out" to our room (they offered room service, but didn't want to impose on the staff anymore than we already had aka Xmas time) We ordered the pork schnitzel and a Croque Madame. The schnitzel was very good, but the Croque Madame was ridiculous. My wife being the best judge because she grew up in Paris and favorite past time being a foodie. The price is fair considering we were on top of a freggin mountain!! It was a little annoying not being able to dine in the dining room, but respect is greatly reciprocated for taking the pandemic seriously. read more

Wonderful views however, I came for dinner a few weeks ago and was not impressed. Gave it another chance for lunch today. It was a prefix menu. 30$ per person! Service was extremely slow again. The options looked good but were very poorly made. Fries are horrible and they came out cold. BLT had fillings only on one side, melt had cold unmelted cheese! They ended up comping the meal. We did leave a tip for the wait staff, poor food is not their fault. So I think that's it. The bar upstairs is consistently better. read more

Stayed at the lodge for 3 nights/4 days 1/31-2/3. Had our 2nd wedding anniversary dinner on Monday night and was not disappointed. The service is phenomenal, the food unlike anything I could have fathomed. Cole our server was so attentive and hospitable, we dined here twice it was so good. The wine list is unbelievable. After our horrible experience the night before at the Ramshead Bar upstairs in the Lodge, we weren't excited about eating here. However, they were much more on top of things and we ended up having a great breakfast. In June of 2021 you still needed to make reservations to eat here, even for breakfast. We arrived, got seated and ordered. The food came and it was delicious. Fair warning though, its expensive - yes, even breakfast. Service was nice and even took a few seconds to talk to us. The ambience of the dining room was fabulous. We actually sat out by the centerpiece/fireplace and were worried they'd forget about us, but they did not. One of the best dining experiences ever **Disclaimer I am not sure if they will do this for everyone** I went up for the weekend with my lady friend. We are both in the wine business so we brought a bunch of stellar bottles of wine. I asked ahead of time if the Chef could recommend food pairing for each wine (Champagne, White Burgundy, Oregon Pinot Noir, Bordeaux, and Sauternes) The chef said I will do better than that, I will make special dishes for each course that are not on the menu. He did just that and brought out each course one at a time himself. And this was during a busy Saturday night. Needless to say it was a over the top great experience! read more

If I could give zero stars for this review, it would be appropriate. We were looking forward to a pleasant dining experience, we had a great meal a few years ago when we spent the night. This time decided to make reservations for brunch. Once we were seated, we went over to the buffet line. The lighting over the food trays was dim. It was hard to tell what I was dishing up on my plate. Not a good sign. I ended up getting the pork and also the grilled chicken, and mashed potatoes. Plus mixed greens for a salad. It's a good thing I had the salad. Once I got back to our table, I finally saw what I dished on my plate. The chicken and pork were lukewarm. The mashed potatoes were ok but not really warm. It was disgusting. I glanced at the people at the table next to us. We exchanged looks and we all shook our heads with dissatisfaction. For a two lousy plates of mediocre food, plus a glass of wine, cost over $100 plus tip. Timberline, we won't be dining there again. read more

BREAKFAST WAS AWFUL. I ordered the Veggie Skillet. Veggies covered with cheese and a sunny side up egg. Sounds pretty simple, right? It comes out and the cheese is not melted, the veggies are cooked but cold and the egg is glazed like it was cooked hours ago. And the skillet was COLD. So, obviously, the food was not cooked in the skillet...isn't that the point of a skillet? Our server was wonderful. He took the skillet back to warm it up. It came back and tasted microwaved (skillet still cold). I tilted the skillet and it had a quarter inch of grease in the bottom! If it wasn't cooked in the skillet, then the grease had to have been poured in there?!?! I sent it back again and asked for toast and jam. The toast took 10 minutes, and came out with parsley sprinkled on it. Seriously?? Our server was great. He tried to comp our breakfast, but we had a breakfast package. He says he hates working breakfast because the chef is always screwing things up. He said he took issue with him about the skillet and is regularly challenging him.. And this is the HEAD CHEF. We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a similar issue. Will NEVER eat here again, even if it's free. read more

Another fabulous meal at Cascade Dining Room! We got married at Timberline Lodge a few years ago, so we always come here for our anniversary dinner. I've had brunch and lunch here as well. I always love it. It's such a beautiful space with some awesome views! The staff are great and wonderfully attentive, they create a lovely atmosphere of class. Last night we ordered a bottle of sparkling Argyle, watermelon gazpacho, seared scallops and the ribeye steak. Of course we dove into their complimentary "mini bite" appetizer and fresh baked & crusty table bread. So good. Strawberry cake for dessert. All was delicious, beautifully plated and cooked perfectly. I just can't get over Timberline Lodge and all the amazing aspects of this property, particularly this place. It is spendy, sure, but it's well worth it. It is a pleasure to dine in such an amazing historic landmark that is bursting at the seams with stunning craftsmanship & architecture. We went to the Cascade Dining Room to celebrate our son's and his fiancée's wedding and to have the rehearsal dinner with both families. The CDR is a cozy restaurant with an impressive vibe of an old, sturdy, epic castle from days past. It was a perfect dinner and a comforting experience thanks to our amazing waitperson David. He was professional, knowledgeable, kind and patient. We were a party of 10 and he worked so hard to make sure everyone was happy with their dinner experience. So grateful for you David. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff also! Along with wine and drinks, we ordered many entree items on the menu, as well as the Manila clams and cheese board as appetizers. Great starters. Both families enjoyed their chosen entrees which included multiple orders of ribeye steak, duck and pork belly, scallops, the farfalle pasta, the baked chicken and the Bibb salad. Everything was perfectly plated and delicious and it was all devoured. The steamed clams especially, were some of the best I've ever had, such great flavors and deliciously seasoned. The ribeye steak was perfectly prepared with its deep rich sauce and side veggies. The duck and pork belly was also a hit. Desserts were unique and fantastic as well. The blackberry-basil tiramisu and skillet apple pie were favorites. It's very pricey, but it is so worth it when celebrating such a special occasion. Cafeteria food at best at gourmet prices. $30 price for a sad salad bar with cheese and dressing as the two choices that go with the lettuce and spinach mix. The sandwiches were not appetizing, dry and with a piece of lettuce and a tomato slice on the hamburgers and grander burgers, great fries though. You do get chocolate cookies, best food of the entire meal. Really dissatisfied with the price and the service. I guess you pay for the historical location but you are better off coming for the views and bring your own food. When you think airline tourist class food beats the Cascade Dinning something is really off. We were happily surprised that they charged only one meal for two teens that were with us. My husband and I swung by Timberline Lodge on our drive back to Portland airport from Bend, OR. It was recommended to us by a couple from Washington State. Though it was fairly early in the morning, we decided to order drinks from the one restaurant that was open for breakfast. The hostess was running around trying to seat guests and perform other duties, causing a back up in seating. We were able to walk up to the bar and ordered a White Russian Chai (chai being my favorite hot beverage) and their Snow Cap Dream Hot Chocolate. The bartender had to run back and forth from the kitchen as the fridges underneath the bar were broken (and had been broken for over 2 weeks). I felt bad for her, plus it took her twice as long to make the drinks as it normally would. The prices for the beverages were expensive but knowing it was a resort, we were expecting it. Both beverages were delicious and we were able to enjoy them by the fire in the common area outside of the restaurant. read more

What a wonderful experience! Based on the pricing and location, I thought the Cascade Room would be formal dining but I'd say that it is more "casual dress with a fine dining experience". The staff is great. Very professional and attentive. They brought over bread, an amuse bouche (tuna tartare), and palate cleanser (cranberry line granita) throughout the meal. I ordered the gnocchi and added steak as the protein. The steak came out as a WHOLE 16 OZ RIBEYE! Wow. I didn't realize I'd get two entrees in one. It was all delicious. Great experience. read more

Staying the week in Government Camp for our sons week long summer ski camp. Thought we'd treat ourselves to one nice meal out for the week and decided to do Timberline Lodge for Father's Day - we've done plenty on breakfasts up there over the years, but not dinner. I thought everything was wonderful. Jason was our server, and was great. Herman....loved your energy! My In-laws split the Rib Eye, my wife had the Salmon, son the Spaetzle with Chicken and I had the New York Special with Pharaoh grains. Everyone raved about their meal, and we enjoyed sampling each others. Drinks were on point and well made. Dessert was fabulous. Thanks for making Father's Day that much better. Cheers! read more
