I prefer to talk to someone in person with experience. I went to, pretty much, all the specialty fish stores in the valley to seek out someone who was knowledgeable that would take the time to educate me. Hong and Nhu from Deep Blue Aquarium are, hands down, the most patient people I have spoken to. They know their shit, too! You can tell they really care about their store and giving their customers the right type of information as well as giving suggestions on what to look for if we decided to make purchases at another place. Wow! We followed their advice and now have a nice setup free from new tank syndrome. We got three designer clownfish from them and they are all doing extremely well. They make starting the hobby really easy and fun. Hong gave us great advice and offered information, I didn't even think about. He's not like the other people I have talked to that care more about the money in their wallet than the success of your tank. Very heartwarming. Their store is carefully look after and maintained. Great prices on frags and fish. You won't find any other people who take the time to talk to you as much as they do about the how-to's and why's of keeping a successful, quality reef tank. Looking forward to when we can start actually introducing their coral into our tank. They definitely have our all our business, we won't, and don't want, to go anywhere else.

We worked with Josh who was awesome and helped us pick out a tank and three fish to start - he was super helpful and reminded me of when I did something similar with my dad when I was a kid We got home, assembled everything and unfortunately, found the fish tank was cracked at the bottom and so water was leaking everywhere (though we didnt realize until the next morning ;/ ). I called Josh that morning and he immediately allowed me to bring in the damage tank and swap out for a new tank. They also threw in some free plants and things like that for the inconvenience. This is exactly why we wanted to work with a local store and not some chain. Customer service, friendly people and a good time. Highly recommend.

Dean was nice enough to temporarily take care of our tortoises because we recently had a baby and are looking for a new home. They had betta fish in tiny cups (which is an unfortunately common but inhumane way of displaying them) and were advertising minuscule tanks for them. The current standard of care is much higher and bettas need 5 gallon minimum tanks. No living creature should live in a 1 gal water dispenser, which was advertised at a discount in the very front. It was obvious that this shop only cared about profit and not animal welfare and I could not stomach giving this place my money.

I've asked plenty of questions over time and have always received thoughtful, accurate advice. In fact, some of the best advice I've gotten there has been when they talked me OUT of buying something that wasn't right for my tank. Their fish are healthy, their tanks are clean, and the overall level of care is obvious the moment you walk through the door. As someone who pays close attention to fish health and aquarium maintenance, that's something I notice immediately.
