A Closter resident my entire life, I have frequented Red Maple since I was a child. It is a Closter staple. Each year with out fail it continues to serve some of the best breakfast in North Jersey. Typical diner fare (cash only) but with more care; where the cook will step out of the open kitchen to ask how you would like something cooked and make sure everything came out well. I post reviews when I travel, or when I try something new. I'm not sure why I don't review close to home more often. The food at Red Maple is consistently good, very good, far better then most diners that are $2-3 more per plate. My favorite is the marinated cheese steak, usually the lunch special on Tuesday. The pan cakes are excellent. As is the corned beef hash. The service is always great. Most customers are regulars, which tells you a lot about the place and the kind staff. I wish they had longer hours, specifically after school hours, but that doesn't seem like it would be possible (there's 1 cook and 3 waitresses). Red Maple is a 'greasy spoon' type luncheonette. I don't think there's a salad on the menu. I'm a very adventurous eater, in general, but I like what I order here so much that I order the same things all the time. Snuck here without the lady knowing. Exactly what you want and expect with reasonable prices. Apparently an institution in closter, I'm a transplant so cannot personally attest but the character is up paralleled. Very few on these places left so I will be frequenting when I can get a delicious set of bacon and french toast with plenty of butter and syrup on the low. Speedy service jersey style. Great breakfast luncheonette. My BF grew up the next town over in Demerest and this is a old family favorite.

I was in the mood for a power breakfast. This place was exactly what I needed. Although it's not the cleanest diner I've ever eaten at they make up for it with the their great service and good food. The place is very small but they had counter seating right in front of the cook preparing my breakfast. The food came out fast. It was nothing fancy but it hit the spot. read more

A great community atmosphere! The place always buzzes on a Saturday morning for brunch. The owner knows his customers by name. We have come here for decades -- it is a family tradition. Happen to try this place with my baby daughter and loved the food and service so much! We had corned beef hash, macaroni salad, grilled cheese, and French toast and every single thing was delicious. always the place to go with my friends for brunch!! we always go to red maple and get omelettes, toast, and/or a sandwich!! i recommend buying the juice in the fridges up front which are cheaper than ordering juice in a cup :O !! i never tried it, but as a vegetarian i appreciated the veggie burger options!! have yet to see anything vegan besides the fries but for anyone else, every dish is absolutely delicious!!! reminder that this place closest at 12/1 (depending on the day) but opens super early! cozy, small place- a real diner feel! (the milkshakes, omelettes, and home fries are the best I've ever had and so much better than the other diner down the street!) read more

I NEVER write reviews on yelp...but this place was great! I'm a visitor from out of town but The Red Maple Diner made me feel right at home! It's a simple Diner with a neighborhood feel...everyone knows everyone and the chef "Charlie" is a crowd favorite. He knows most patrons by name and if your a "first-timer" like me he will take the time to make sure your meal is to your satisfaction! He cooks all of the food right in front of you...and it is delish! I would highly recommend this restaurant to all types...just make sure you say hello to Charlie when you walk in the door!!! read more

Most of the waitresses are nice and friendly but one dark haired lady is always reading the newspaper....your lucky to get one cup of coffee at breakfast time. Go on Saturday when she's not there! read more
