Hidden Gem How did I not find this place earlier?…read moreOnce you find it you'll remember the charm. This is a gorgeous vintage feel cafe that has ample seating and space. There is on street parking. It's opposite a cute little kids playground. Walk up and either put in the order or find a table - there is table service - quick, friendly and efficient. The menu has some old favs like crumpets with passion fruit butter and the usual eggs and toast - both are great. Breakfast Burger is a very tasty meal. The coffee is good. This place is now one of my favorites - love the general store charm. Ohh! It's also dog friendly ( sitting outside) - they serve a puppycino - paw stamp of approval from outer chocolate lab.

We were seated in the back where I got a clear view of the entire restaurant. The place is buzzing! We started off with some coffee, because that's what you do when in Australia. The coffee culture is HUGE here. After everyone arrived, we got down to business. We ordered: Crispy Corn Fritters: absolutely delicious! Crispy corn fritters soft on the inside are served with perfectly scrambled eggs. Not on the menu Breakfast Sandwich: this was for the kids who couldn't find anything on the menu they liked. Essentially a bacon and egg sandwich (on a burger bun). Smoked Pork Hock Hash: my least favorite dish is smoked pork hock potato cake dotted with green harissa, avocado, kefir tahini, and finished with two poached eggs. It wasn't bad, just kinda boring when compared to the rest of the stuff. Eggs Bender: Billykart's version of eggs Benedict. Two poached eggs and a respectable Hollandaise sauce paired with house smoked Ora King salmon, and a side of sauteed mustard greens. No traditional English muffin here, instead a thick slice of rustic sourdough bread substitutes. Aussie Asian Eggs: my favorite dish. Also, possibly the most creative. A cake of fried noodles is topped with grilled prawns and bacon plus two deep fried eggs over the top. Food is good, really good. If you're in the area, definitely stop by.

Apples on Ainsworth - Halloumi Stack. Highlight was the pesto. Delicious.

As I sat in this eclectic cafe-come-vintage store-come-honey dealer I almost forgot I was in…read moreBrisbane. I had driven over the bridge and into a pocket of Brisbane, I'll freely admit, I had never ventured before. Apples came to my attention, as most things do these days, via The Internet (Instagram I think) and it had been on my "to try" list since. So, try I did. On a windy and wintery Wednesday morning I ventured to Apples and for a moment thought I had taken a wrong turn as there was no easily visible sign from the street. Nestled smack bang in a row of old school shops including a convenience store and nail spa and across the road from a lawn bowls club, Apples on Ainsworth is the last thing you'd expect to find. You know as soon as you see the knitted blankets over the mismatched outside furniture you're about to walk into a gem of a cafe. A cafe that feels like you're visiting your grandmother. It is a vintage visual feast and I'm distracted, forgetting that I'm here for lunch. There's a standard menu including avocado on sourdough with haloumi but on this occassion I take a punt on the eggplant risotto cake from the cabinet at the counter (also housing sweets and sandwiches) with a side of salad. PS. This salad was wicked. Beetroot, nuts, kale and a poached egg. I'm not sure what they put in it but it was easily competing to be the hero food on that plate party. Their coffee is Byron Beans and I could drink about three more flat whites than I do. You can also purchase some of the vintage and retro knick-knacks on display and if you bring your own container or jar you can also purchase fresh honey. Ainslie is a little bit out of the way for my north-side self but, in my opinion, well worth the trek!

Came here today at around 10 am for brunch. Almost didn't go in as it didn't look too friendly! But…read morebased on positive reviews on Yelp, I pushed on. Took me a while to focus on the deco and find the menus hiding amidst piles of newspaper on the side by the wall. Fairly small place inside so it was a cosy fit. They have extra tables outside as well. Antique furniture and little knick knacks gave this place a really charming and interesting personality. The staff were an interesting bunch and seemed friendly. I ordered the sunny side up (two eggs, spinach, one slice of sourdough toast and aioli) with a side of bacon. It was pretty yummy, though I personally found the yolks slightly over cooked and I'm a little confused as to why there weren't two slices of toast, but maybe that's just me being a fatty but I always thought two was standard the bacon was super delicious though! Thick, soft and not too salty. At $9.90 (plus $4 for bacon), it's really good value for money. Props to the dude who cleaned up our plates. He was so polite and smiled genuinely

What a find! Cannot believe it has taken so long to find…read moreit. This place is great - it has changed hands since the last review and some changes made, still praiseworthy. The family love this place including our dog. It is on Ekibin Road - there is parking out front but best to use s side street. Walk up - do the COVID check in - find a table inside or out in the backyard garden ( our preference as we take the dog) There is a dog playground at the back next to the table - most dog friendly cafe I have seen. But let's get down to what's important- coffee & food - both good. The long blacks more than passed muster and given an excellent score by the other half. The capppuccino on almond always hits the spot. Coffee is excellent. Food is also excellent - the snag varieties vary day to day so check for favorites. Good selection of vegan and GF options. Top marks!

Adding another gem to Annerley/Moorooka/Tarragindi surburban cafe landscape this place is well on it's way to becoming a brunch/breakfast favourite. We visited Subsay morning 10ish - while we had no reservation (and it happened to be Father's Day - oops) we were still seated & served quickly. Menu features many bfast faves with some twists thrown in such Banana Bread French Toast the husband ordered along with specials like the Moroccan eggs that I had. Many gluten free & vege friendly options available. Carnivores fear not maple bacon & homemade sausage varieties abound. Coffee orders were taken promptly and delivered swiftly. Bare Bones coffee FTW. We didn't try the juices or smoothie options but they did sound good. Service was great considering the business of the day. My hashbrown side order did get slightly forgotten at first - which I'm attributing to simple new staff error - but soon appeared once brought to their attention. They are open for lunch & dinners (not totally sure which mights) and wine list we are keen to go back and try that out soon.

I took a risk and planned a surprise birthday breakfast at Buzz without having been there before…read more But I needed a place on the West side to accommodate the available timeframe for some of the guests, and the menu on Buzz's website had me at "ricotta pancakes with candied bacon ice cream". I called ahead, and the lovely phone-answerer recommended making a reservation for the weekends, as they do get quite busy. We booked for 8:30 on a Saturday, and while it wasn't overly full when we arrived, a steady crowd did go through in our time there. The space is breezy and open, and our friends were able to wheel their pram up next to the table. The staff were all so kind and helpful. Our server was happy to fill a cup with hot water to warm a bottle, and they really put the mum at ease. There were several other families with children in high chairs, and it's nice to know there's a place I can bring my mum friends. Even though I had spent days looking over the menu, I panicked upon ordering, because there really were so many things I wanted to try. I opted for the build-your-own breakfast plate. I was a little disappointed with the corn fritters I chose, but having lived in the American south, I have really high fritter standards. I did get a nibble of that bacon ice cream, and I know what I'm ordering next time! The portion sizes are quite large, and it really felt like good value for money. We weren't entirely sure where to park, because it is in the ground level of some units, but there is a nearby parking lot for visitor parking with a short sidewalk around to the restaurant. There may be another lot closer, but it looks under construction at the time of this writing.

I'll admit my first positive remark is the cheeky waitress that gave me a good laugh. Food portions we're excellent at a decent price. Only negative was the selection of lunchtime menu, but for someone that responds "food" when asked what he wants to eat, I'll mark this as a positive from my view. Highly recommended!
