No customer service. My husband ordered a medium ribeye...came out rare. Waitress took it back to kitchen and came out medium rare. All she wanted to do was take it back to the kitchen again! I should have asked for manager as they'd I'd not offer any compensation. This was not a cheap restaurant. My ribs were good as well as the sides and bread. Haven't been here in a long time. Was very disappointed. Seated quickly. Prompt service initially. Then pretty much ignored. Ordered an appetizer and drink. Then a meal after receiving drink. Got my salad first. Had barely started it when my appetizer and meal arrived at same time. Good I ordered a glass of water as well because nobody ever came to check on getting me another drink. Best $20.98 meal for ambience, service, flavor and variety. I had the Salmon and it was delicious. The salad bar is not huge but perfect with a nice variety. I sampled the homemade vegetable barley soup (why not?) and it had very good flavor. I wish I had not ate so much to have tried the blackberry cobbler....next time! I simply enjoyed this place! Is an old red barn, wooden floors, walls and ceiling. Hunting trophies through out. Very rustic! Lots of fun antiques to look at. Very inviting and friendly staff. The upstairs is a bar with pool tables. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was precious! 45 years of service. We ordered the pork chops recommended highly and I know why! They were fantastic!! Two huge portions with baked potato and salad bar! Then we ordered fried catfish, onion ring and salad bar. The portions are huge, you won't leave hungry! The catfish was good but hands down the pork chops were by far the star of our table! Just a note: there are signs of you pay with cash you get 4% discount. We did but didn't get the discount. Another visit to the Red Barn! It's been almost a year since my last visit and I have been dreaming about enjoying their fried pickles, again. Like most know, the Red Barn is a staple restaurant in Demopolis. I cannot say I have ventured out much on their menu. However, between my father, my cousin, my son and my fiancé, we have tried a large portion of it. I got my son a hamburger with homemade chips. Little did I know, I would be eating those instead of my baked potato. They are thinly sliced potatoes, fried perfectly and the seasoning.....well, let's just say.....I want to know what it is because it is good!!! My staple is always the filet and baked potato. Again, steak cooked perfect and tender. My cousin always gets the shrimp cocktail and my father also got an order with a salad (salad bar). My fiancé got the ribeye steak and enjoy it too! Last night I asked my cousin when they opened and he couldn't remember. But also said, he had been coming here for well over 30 years. It's always comforting to support a business with owners on site, a friendly staff who recognizes you and good food. Now for anyone who has issues with rustic, and I mean rustic dining.......it might not be the place for you. The sink in the bathroom dates back....and shows its age. Compared to a regular steak and seafood restaurant this place is not very good. The prices seemed average for a steakhouse. USDA choice beef 16 oz rib-eye was 22.95. I decided to try the grouper, broiled. The fish arrived swimming in a plate of butter, it was pretty much what i expected with a lot more butter. The thing that keeps this place from being three stars in my opinion is the soup and salad bar. Each dinner includes unlimited soup and salad bar. I guess it is just the appearance of the salad bar that threw me off. Also the soup bar is just a home style crock pot sitting on a table. The side choice i got was the brown rice with gravy. The rice was good, your typical wild rice blend, and the gravy was OK . . . dark brown out of a jar. This place also has a bar upstairs that I did not check out. Perhaps this place would be better if I was just coming for drinks, however in Demopolis you don't really have much of a selection for restaurants. read more

Loved this place! We were passing thru and decided to stop. Home cooking at its finest! We had the onion rings for an appetizer which were great! I had the grilled chicken salad and my husband had the cheeseburger which he stated "this is the best meat I've ever had". Service was the best! Highly recommend if your in town!!! read more

Not off to a good start!!! I ask for the steamed veggies and I'm told all they have is broccoli. Server tells me to look at the back of the menu where it says STEAMED VEGGIES with a picture of steamed veggies!!! Then she Tells me it's not her fault! When did this become an appropriate way to speak to a guest?? Salad bar is this restaurants shining item!! While the lettuce was a little wilted the pickles, pickled okra, and beets were really good as usual! The time between ordering and actually having anyone check on us was ridiculous! We finished our salads, a woman grabbed the empty plates but never spoke to us, and our server didn't return till she brought our food! Now to the food itself.... served fresh and hot! Steak that my husband had was cooked perfectly and had a nice smoky flavor!! My catfish was cooked to perfection!!! The rolls were warm and nice also! So now if this restaurant could improve on service and menu accuracy it would be a much better overall experience!!! read more

Coming from California, this was a major culture shock in terms of how unhealthy (but delicious) the food is. Service was great, food is really good (steak was undercooked, hence 4) but overall good experience. If I ate here every week though, I would have a heart attack by 35, so much butter. read more

The decor is a bit funny but goes with the barn theme-- cow skin table cloths :) The prices are reasonable, I got a delicious 10 oz ribeye, which was tender and had great flavor. I used to be a regular. The service has gone way down hill. My last three out of four trips, no one refilled our drinks. No apology either. They didn't care. I went there with my son on a Saturday night. We arrived about nine they seated us and we ordered the surf an turf said they were out of 10 oz ribeye so we ordered the 14 oz. salad bar was not very clean baked potato was very brown. Steak came out almost raw and grilled shrimp were almost raw we sent the steak back but still wasn't right. They really seemed to be rushing us out then we were over changed for our meal. The food is decent. But the whole place could use a good cleaning. I had to point out the filthy front door to one of the staff members after noticing it time and time again on visits there. Seemed to Never get cleaned. Definitely NOT what you want to see when you enter a resturant. If the tables set any more crooked, the plates would slide off. Probably the best place to eat in Demopolis, so it pulls in quite a crowd. Unless you arrive early you will have to wait as seating is limited. Despite the fact that I grew up within 30 minutes of this restaurant, and heard FOREVER how good it was, I only last week made a point of trying the Red Barn for dinner. My party of five arrived in the early evening on a Thursday and were seated immediately. While the decor could be a bit too rustic to some, my family found it charming. Even more to their liking was the large menu and even larger portions. A sampling of the items we ordered includs grilled tuna, ribeye steaks, fried shrimp and grilled shrimp. Each of us raved about our food, and we all were fans of the unlimited salad and soup bar. We topped off the meal with a pair of blackberry cobblers a la mode (shared among the group). While I wouldn't say the prices were cheap, I do feel the portion size made the cost of the meal more than fair. Overall, I would say the Red Barn is worth a visit for anyone in the area or those passing through. read more
