Along the Tombigbee River, just a few miles outside the small town of Pennington, Al, is a restaurant full of staff who know what it is to be great southern cooks. I haven't visited this place since I was a kid. This restaurant is inside of a river-front cabin that was built before the Civil War, and the word is that any hunter around can tell you just where to find this place; they all flock there every year. Ezell's has *real* food -- and that, to me, says a lot. This stuff isn't store-bought. The cooks in that kitchen put together a meal that sets them apart from every other fish camp I have been to. Fish camps tend to have that same breading on their catfish. It all tastes the same, just some of them tend to taste more "fishy" than others. There was no dirt taste in this fish. It was original, country kitchen, straight from your granny's recipes kind of taste.

Frog legs and shrimp were good . I was not impressed with the cole slaw or hush puppies that are supposed to be so great

Ambiance - A locally owned gas store / deli, you can order a variety of FRIED food, both Surf or Turf, plates, family style or a la cart. The only fresh seafood they might have is Crawfish, when in seasoned. There are three or four small tables to seat and eat. I recommend as order as takeout. Service - the staff were fast and friendly. With a steady supply of locals coming through, they ready to take your order. The deli section is stocked with a lot of fried items so you can get your food quicker. However, I would recommend to get one of their PoBoy sandwiches. You won't go wrong. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes but it worth it. Food - 4 Stars Shrimp PoBoy combo w fries and drink. $13.99 I would have given it 5 stars but the fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The quality of the potato of the fries could be better too. The bread was fluffy and toasty just as it should be for a PoBoy! The amount of shrimp was overwhelming. See pictures. The sandwhich came w lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. No mayo. I ordered the 8" combo meal but they have a 6" size, if you counting your calories because your cholesterol will still be high with the amount of fried food! Oh, I forgot, they have shrimp fried rice too. So get a side order! I forgot to order mine. Bummer. Enjoy

It was been a while since I have been to this place. When you go in there is a menu sign to read on…read morethe wall. Then order at the counter and they will bring it to you. I ordered the grilled shrimp basket with new potatoes (small red skin potatoes) and it comes with bread. There were a generous amount of shrimp but not a lot of favor. The potatoes were good with a little spice kick. I was with a group and someone ordered the fried shrimp and they looked really good. This place was hopping at lunch when we were there. I would suggest finding a table first if you're dining in. Enjoy!

There were nice options for seafood - crawfish, crabs, shrimp, catfish, etc., with preparations from fried to boiled. 2 in our party shared the catfish and shrimp platter, and took some home for a late night snack. 1 shared the seafood platter and a pound of boiled crawfish. The staff at the counter assisted us, and were patient with our numerous questions. The seafood platter had a deviled crab, fried catfish, large fried shrimp, boiled shell-on shrimp, corn on the cob, boiled potatoes, fries and the choice of cole slaw or a side salad. It was delicious, and even more yummy as leftovers for brunch late this morning. I wish I could give them 10 stars!!
