Crawfish fried rice, fried oysters and broccoli!
    Mark D.

While visiting in Meridian, I opted to try a new restaurant instead of your average chain and it looked appetizing. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly staff, which is always assuring. The menu had several offerings, but i opted to get the crawfish, fried rice, fried oysters and broccoli. The crawfish fried rice was good but was lacking soy sauce, the fried oysters were slightly greasy, and the broccoli was doused in butter and garlic. Finally, it was a pleasant surprise while visiting but some of the items need to be refined. Hopefully, they were having an off day...

Stopped on the way to New Orleans and my daughter got to experience her first seafood boil bag. She loved it!

Definitely a different place but worth a try. Went to lunch here albeit a late lunch about 1pm there were a few folks eating on the Friday I was there. The place is well maintained and clean. The hostess sat me immediately and my server came over and got my drink order. My server answered all my questions about the menu as I had plenty. I elected to go with Garlic Shrimp Noodle and Crab Cakes. Apparently you can get a smaller portion of the noodles. This might have been a better option as the bowl I got was a lot of food. I was able to finish it because momma didn't raise a quitter. Seriously the noodles were very good and HOT. I had to eat the crab cakes to allow the noodles to cool down. The crab cakes were good but made better by their in house spicy sauce. This stuff was good. My server said some folks order it by the gallon for home use. Overall great little find I would go back and try some other dishes. TIp: One weird thing is when I paid with CC I couldn't tip my server it had to be cash or a different cash app. Luckily I had cash as I don't mess with cash apps.

Crab Cakes: being from Maryland I can't say these were great. They were very flavorful but it's more filler than crab. Garlic Shrimp Noodle: huge portion, good flavor with a nice amount of shrimp. Poboy: pretty tasty The service was good and the place is nice and clean.

Ambiance - A locally owned gas store / deli, you can order a variety of FRIED food, both Surf or Turf, plates, family style or a la cart. The only fresh seafood they might have is Crawfish, when in seasoned. There are three or four small tables to seat and eat. I recommend as order as takeout. Service - the staff were fast and friendly. With a steady supply of locals coming through, they ready to take your order. The deli section is stocked with a lot of fried items so you can get your food quicker. However, I would recommend to get one of their PoBoy sandwiches. You won't go wrong. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes but it worth it. Food - 4 Stars Shrimp PoBoy combo w fries and drink. $13.99 I would have given it 5 stars but the fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The quality of the potato of the fries could be better too. The bread was fluffy and toasty just as it should be for a PoBoy! The amount of shrimp was overwhelming. See pictures. The sandwhich came w lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. No mayo. I ordered the 8" combo meal but they have a 6" size, if you counting your calories because your cholesterol will still be high with the amount of fried food! Oh, I forgot, they have shrimp fried rice too. So get a side order! I forgot to order mine. Bummer. Enjoy

The exposed brick and thoughtful décor struck the perfect balance--classic and nostalgic with just the right touch of modern style. We were immediately welcomed by the sweetest hostess (I hate that I can't remember her name--she had glasses, a beautiful smile, and the cutest dress). She greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that's hard to come by these days. She led us into the main dining room and seated us at a charming table dressed in crisp white linens. The space featured more exposed brick, tasteful artwork, and just the right amount of décor. The temperature was perfect, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter arrived promptly and was both friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly knew his craft and took the time to walk us through the specials, making sure we felt confident and excited about our choices. We ordered sweet tea, which was perfectly brewed--not overly sweet, just right. The complimentary peanut butter and crackers were something new to us, but after reading about the history behind it, we appreciated the thoughtful touch even more. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was fresh and cooked to order. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, the cheeseburger, and a special featuring a panini with a cup of gumbo. Each entrée came with perfectly cooked homemade chips. Every bite was spot-on--truly a 10 out of 10. Even though we were full, we couldn't resist ordering dessert--when in Rome, right? We chose the peanut butter pie and the famous Black Bottom pie. After one bite of those generously sized slices, we all paused and just looked at each other. I don't exaggerate when I say we unanimously agreed they were the best pies we've ever had. What started as a plan to sample a few bites and take the rest to go ended with two completely empty plates. We consider ourselves food lovers, and I genuinely couldn't find a single flaw in the entire experience. We live nearly three hours away and are already planning a trip back. If you've made it this far in my amateur review, thank you--and I truly hope you get the chance to experience this wonderful, history-filled gem for yourself.

-- Good Intentions, Poor Execution…read more Let me start by saying I wanted to like Don P's. Friday lunch, only three other tables occupied, and a menu that had real potential. Unfortunately, the experience fell short from the moment we walked in until we tracked someone down just to pay and leave. ________________________________________ First Impressions No greeting. No hostess. We stood at the entrance long enough to feel awkward before walking up to the counter ourselves to ask the basics -- do we seat ourselves? Is there table service? They clearly saw us, but ignored us. Not a great start for a sit-down restaurant. ________________________________________ Atmosphere & Presentation The décor is trying to do something, but it lands closer to glitzy-cheap than charming. More noticeable: the food arrived in takeout containers with plastic utensils, and drinks came in disposable cups. At a table-service restaurant. At lunch. No aprons, no uniforms on the staff -- nothing that signals "we take this seriously." ________________________________________ The Food OG Gumbo -- 3/10 I've driven hours out of my way for great gumbo. This wasn't it. Okra, andouille, chicken, shrimp -- the ingredients were there, but the broth was thin and watery in a way I've genuinely never experienced before. It's not the worst gumbo I've ever had (chain restaurants hold that title), but it was very substandard, a real disappointment. Cajun Pasta -- 2/10 This one was rough. Overcooked pasta, bordering on paste, and salted so aggressively it tasted almost intentional -- like Cajun seasoning AND an extra round of salt was added separately. Nearly inedible, and I don't use that word lightly. ________________________________________ Service Virtually nonexistent. We were ignored for most of the meal and had to physically hunt down our server to get the check -- so we could leave and go eat somewhere else. That about sums it up. ________________________________________ Final Thoughts Don P's isn't without potential -- the concept is there, and the food came out hot and fast. But hot and fast doesn't cover watery gumbo, over-seasoned pasta, disposable everything, and a staff that seemed indifferent to our presence. With some serious attention to food quality, service standards, and basic dining room professionalism, this place could be something. Right now, it's not. Would I return? No. Would I recommend it? Not yet.

Every bite had that perfect balance of flavor that makes you stop and say, "yeah... this is it." The service was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and the food came out hot and fast. I'll definitely be back -- and if you go, do yourself a favor and order the seafood pasta. It's worth every penny.
