Food was great,! But $20 for a meat, two vegetables and a drink; that's pretty steep. Air conditioning was not great.

The food was so good. It tasted like my grandmother made it. The people were friendly and polite. The restaurant was clean and well maintained inside. read more

Stopped here on a drive up from New Orleans. It is a little bit of a drive from the interstate, and in an extremely depressed area. It must be a rough area as well, as they have a guy standing outside the establishment with a hand cannon protecting the restaurant and the vehicles outside. All you anti-Second Amendment folks need to spend sometime here...it will become apparent why some people need guns...but I digress. I'm here to discuss the food. The catfish is excellent. Hands down the best option here. They know what they're doing with the bottom feeders. Strangely enough, the fried chicken is not. I would mark that as an avoid. And the spaghetti casserole was not bad, but not the greatest either. I'd go all in on that catfish. The sides are quite good. I highly recommend the corn, green beans, and lima beans. Those lima beans are wow! I'd love to have that recipe. Overall, if you know what to get, you'll have a great experience. Personally, I'm glad I got off the interstate and came here. This is America. Not what you see from the highway. read more

Binke's Restaurant - Drew was attacking that catfish. It is that good. - Southern Near Me - Meridian, Mississippi

The food is good but it's a luncheon only venue. It's in an out of the way place away from other restaurants. If you're looking for a good down home southern lunch and have the time to drive around and search for it, this is the place. read more

Meat and 3, home cooked southern cooking. People very friendly and customer service oriented 2 small pieces ( at my request they would have served me more) fried catfish and 2 sides with no drink, no bread and no dessert was just under $12 which I feel is a bit pricey. read more

Let me start with OMG! My skeptical husband and I had lunch there today for the first time and not only was the food as good as what my Mom and Grandma cooked but they do not skimp on portions. We left sated and stuffed to the gills. we will be frequent diners there and have already bragged to friends living here who have not heard of it. If you love southern, love soul food this is your place to eat in Meridian, Mississippi. as I said my husband is skeptical and he loved the food and even walked back up to the buffet line to thank them. they are open M-F from 10:30am until 2:00 pm. Get there early. YUM!!! read more

Well worth the detour off the highway! We had the meatloaf, the Salisbury steak and the fried chicken and all three were excellent. I was a little worried about the pre-fried fried chicken, but it was hot, sweet and extra crispy. I ate every last bit. And be sure to get the collard greens -- our favorite of all the yummy sides we tried. read more

Love this spot. I always get the food to go. Ambiance is nothing amazing. Service is ok but the food is everything! Amazing baked chicken, all the veggies are delicious and the peach cobbler and strawberry lemonade are everything. My absolute favorite - the chicken and dumplings. Only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They taste like my mamas!! The greens, corn, Mac and cheese, dressing, field peas. You just can't go wrong!! read more

Was driving from NOLA to Knoxville, TN, so when 1:30 PM rolled around, I inquired of YELP for a real home-cooked lunch. Binke's appeared 4th on the list, it sported a FIVE-STAR rating, and I set my course. Binke's is JUST what I was looking for, and having a GPS made it a cinch to get to. The place is clean, the food is cafeteria style and fresh, and the workers and the customers, alike, were all polite and friendly. I had a breast of baked chicken along with collard greens, lima beans, and stewed tomatoes with okra, and an unsweetened ice tea. EVERYTHING was delicious; the chicken was tasty and succulent, the greens had hints of sweetness and heat spice, the limas were juicy and tender with a bit of country ham, and the okra & tomatoes hit the spot, since I had been jonesing for okra for not having found it in two gumbos back in NOLA. Perhaps my only criticism would be that Binke's seems to follow Mary Poppin's advice that "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." I believe a sweetener was added to the collards and to the limas, though the stewed tomatoes with okra could have received its sweetness from al dente bits of minced onions complimenting the main red & green veggies. If you're watching your sugar I'd be sure to inquire about this. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch yesterday at Binke's, "in the most delightful way." It's certainly on my radar, should I ever be passing Meridian, MS again. If you like REAL HOME-COOKED meals and don't mind cafeteria style service, you should get here. My advice is that you NOT pass up Binke's - you'll see. read more

Binke's Restaurant - Lunch - consisting of a breast of baked chicken, collard greens, lima beans, stewed tomatoes with okra, and unsweetened ice tea. YUM ! - Southern Near Me - Meridian, Mississippi

A vast selection of home made vegetables and meats. Perfectly seasoned and satisfying for the soul food palate. Thanks!

Soul food as good as it gets. Stopped here in the middle of a long day's drive--a mile or so off the interstate but worth finding. I had meatloaf, green beans, and cornbread, and they were all phenomenal. The atmosphere was great, too. It's grungy and bleeds southern hospitality. Staff was friendly and welcoming, even after I asked for unsweetened tea, which is quite literally a sin in the south. Would definitely stop back here on another road trip. read more

Had lunch there yesterday. This is a great place I never even heard of in Meridian. I'm glad someone recommend it to my wife. I had the chicken & dumplings which were great. I have to say I usually don't like them when I eat out. My mom having made the best ever but these were close. I also had a baked chicken thigh that was a bit dry but I'm chalking that up to us being there just before they closed. The corn bred was great for dunking in the gravy. There are many sides to choose from. I had the turnip greens, very good with a little pepper sauce. The owner sits at the register and the seating is just like home. I thought we would be the last ones in but several workers and families came in while we ate. Good southern food. I'll be back. read more

happened to be mm148-this popped up exit 150! God intervened 'Cause it was heaven! This Charleston girl was happy for real food & my new husband from San Francisco was equally thrilled. Had the chicken & dumplings,as good my granny's, collards & baby limas. City boy loved the braised ham hock (which I ordered in London '07 but had a fancy name "pork trotters" & was charged $40!) yams & collards. Ate too much- no room for cobbler or red velvet. Mrs Alford /Mama and Binke & server were lovely. Nice to be back in the South w/ friendly folks!! Trust the map - seems you're driving into a curiously residential area but keep going. Just 1.5 mi half from 1-20. All that with 2 iced teas only $22! read more

Good soul food. A little pricey, $12 for a meat, two veggies, and tea. But food was good and there was great variety of meats and vegetables

Just great food. Greens and yams were perfect. Pot roast was tender and with the right amount of fat. Had fresh unsweetened ice tea which I was most grateful for. Worth taking the time to get to. read more

An institution in Meridian, MS. It's southern cooking without regard for healthiness lol so in moderation, this is THE PLACE.

Worth finding it! Don't be distracted by surroundings! Get here as quick as you can! It was home cooked, quick to get food, AMAZING service! Amazing history and awesome food! You walk in and order from the 8 choices of main courses (salsbury steak, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, smothered pork chops, baked chicken .... etc). Did I mention the smothered pork chops?!? Then pick your sides and reg corn bread or jalapeño corn bread. Get the yams. Just do it. The ladies were amazing helpful since we are from out of state and they welcomed us and made sure our meal was just what we wanted. Everyone staff and other guests welcomed us when we walked in. Binke's Restaurant - Amazing home cooked! Yams were like someone giving you a hug! Sorry is was blurry, I was busy shoveling yams in my face. - Southern Near Me - Meridian, Mississippi

This place is well off the beaten path. The food is good, albeit pricey. We stopped here for two reasons: 1. We love to visit local eateries. This one did not disappoint. The fried chicken was dry but the veggies and peach cobbler were wonderful. 2. I love speckled butter beans and they had them that day. The daily menu is listed on their website. So good! read more

I stayed in Meridian nor far from Binke's until my mom passed on. I ate at this restaurant every chance I got. The food was always delicious, the servers were courteous. I will always tell people to stop by there when they tell me the are heading to Meridian. I will always visit when I get to Meridian. read more

I called the restaurant to ask what was on the menu for that particular day and was told I could view the menu on the website. The lack of professionalism and gist to answer a potential customers question was a complete turn off. Needless to say I have yet to dine in. read more

Talk about a yelp fail!!!! To say this place is in a rough part of town (for meridian...the whole town is rough) is an understatement. We got there and there was a hand written sign on the door saying they were closed the week between Christmas and New Year's. This is probably a good thing since property crime (i.e. car jacking) is prevalent in Meridian. Not recommended! In fact, just avoid Meridian Mississippi all together! read more

I went to Binke's this past Friday while on lunch break and stood in line for 10 minutes. As I got to the counter to order my food I was asked to step to back to the back of the line. I was told they needed to ring the people up behind me because they were a large party. My money spends just like the large party. As a business owner you should be able to accommodate all of your customers! You will not have big parties on a daily basis. For the most part it will be the INDIVIDUALS who will support you on a daily basis. This is one of the reasons small/black businesses are not supported. read more

Omg they have the best southern style food!!! I've been eating at Binkies for over 10 years and there's no one like them, I've tried just about everything on the menu and it's all been delicious, never had any complaint. Just wished they stayed open a little later. read more

Great food and hospitality. I had fried chicken, green beans, and mac-n-cheese. Just like made at home. Worth the stop and will be a regular stop when in town. read more

Fantastic veggie plate. I added a veggie and got 4 plus cornbread and sweet tea for $10. Well worth the money. You get a ton of food. The butter beans were good; black eyed peas tasted and looked like local peas (not institutional from a can); creamed corn was thick with corn and not too sweet and was lightly peppered; yams were truly candied with sweetness yet delicate- nicely balanced and took the place of my dessert. read more

This is the type of place that is decades gone from the Yankee north. I remember many true home cooking restaurants and work took me very far away from NYC and despite a great customer meeting, it was lunch and wrap up at Binke's that was the highlight of the trip. I had the roasted ox tail over potatoes, collared greens, turnip greens with cornbread. I can't rave enough about the wonderfully slow roasted tail and potatoes it literally fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, the collared greens had a bit of spice to them that really was a wonderful offset to the traditional turnip greens. Just a meal you can't get up in my area anymore, it was truly fantastic and not just due to nostalgia. The staff was impeccable, true southern hospitality and the restaurant and the steam tables were spotless, the stainless shined. There is a lot of pride in the food, staff, and the restaurant itself. This may become my favorite customer to visit, they are too very good but I know I can run over to Binke's afterward. Find it, it's in a neighborhood but well worth the slight effort it takes to get there. I know they accepted AMEX, I wouid assume they accept all other plastic as well, even had a chip reader! read more

My friend and I had a delicious soul food lunch here today, during our first visit to Meridian, MS after traveling from Chicago. We each got the "one meat and two sides" lunch: me, fried chicken (crisp, juicy) and my friend (turkey necks - well seasoned and meaty). The sides were delicious: melt in your mouth black eye peas with okra, turnip greens, cabbage and tasty Mac n'cheese. The only disappointment was the dry cornbread and my rookie mistake of ordering sweet tea, which was way too sweet for me. We also had delicious sweet potato pie YUM and rolled out of there stuffed, with peach cobbler for later :-)! Highly recommended!! read more

Some people call it 'soul food'. Some people call it 'home style cooking'. I was blessed to be born and raised here in the Deep South. I call this 'food'. You see, this is normal food for a true southerner. Now, with that being said, I'm a firm believer that food is a great common denominator amongst people....all people. I also believe that good food is a great way to bring people together. I mean, didn't Christ himself break bread with his disciples? We rolled up here while working in town on a project. This place was suggested to us. We pulled up and there was an armed guard standing outside. Um, okay. We are, after all, in Mississippi, and we believe in open carry, etc, so guns don't freak us out. We stepped inside and there was a mix of all kinds of people, rich, poor, black, white, other. To me, that's a sign of good food, cuz good food brings people together! We approached the line to see what they were offering. The day we were there they had meatloaf, fried liver, fried chicken, baked chicken, Salisbury steak, and chicken and dumplings. For veggies, they had black eyed peas, turnips, collards, Lima beans, squash casserole, candied yams, butter beans, and a choice of a roll or cornbread. I'm gonna stop and say this. Anyplace that serves black eyed peas and real butter beans AND offers cornbread is freakin' awesome in my books. That's how I roll. Now, I got the meatloaf, over mashed potatoes, the turnips, black eyed peas, and cornbread. It was great. I washed it down with sweet tea, which was great. I couldn't even try any dessert. It set me back about $10. Mega better than McDonalds, trust me. We left only needing a cot to take a nap on. And, it's a mom and pop kinda place, staffed with a cool set of lady's that know how to cook. If your hungry, for REAL food, try this place for lunch. I'll be back. read more

Delicious southern "meat and three" (or four)! Huge selection of meats and vegetables. We didn't have dessert but the pies and cobblers looked great. The turnip greens were my favorite... a little tangy a little sweet. Wonderful service and bright spotless restaurant. It's tricky to find (my maps didn't know a road was closed going over the train tracks) but it's worth the hunt. read more

Very good. This was my first time eating here and it was great. Home cooked southern favorites with a rotating menu. Cafeteria style restaurant. I had backed chicken, Lima beans, field peas, collard greens, corn bread and pecan pie (I was hungry). The greens were very flavorful. Sweet and sneaky hot. The pecan pie was very good. Some of the best I have had. It is pretty easy to find but it is tucked away in a residential area. Lots of "locals" apparently approve of this place because there was a steady stream of people picking up orders. Pricing is spot on and the service is good. read more

Best place in Meridian. I drive from Laurel to eat here! The selections are great, everything from Oxtail to meatloaf. All of the food is fresh and made from scratch. Tons of veggie and side options as well. The dessert choices are numerous. You will not leave full! Wow want a great find. I get a chance to eat at a lot of meat and veggie spots across the south. Really impressed with the quality of the choices I had today. Smothered pork chop, squash and turnips. Many other choices Cafeteria style dining so its great if you have limited lunch time read more

Great find on a trip from Huntsville to New Orleans. We had a great lunch which was full of locals, which is always a good sign.

Great place for old country cooking. This was our first visit but will not be our last.

This place is a hidden treasure! No fuss, casual, but also a clean place with yummy soul food, and very good service. We passed by during a road trip and I'm so glad. The baked chicken was delicious, green beans had a chunk of ham, the yams were sweet and savory, the collard greens were just right, the jalapeño cornbread was deliciously moist. Our son got the spaghetti with meat sauce and that was yummy too! I asked about the oxtail, and apparently that's on Thursdays, so keep that in mind :) read more

This is an amazing restaurant! Very unassuming from the exterior but let me tell you, I have never had soul food that's better. They are so very friendly and the food is amazing. I had baked chicken, green beans and black eyed peas with jalapeño cornbread and sweet tea. My boyfriend had the fried chicken, collard greens and mac n cheese. We. Were. In. Heaven. We were driving from Texas to Tennessee and needed a place for lunch. If I lived anywhere near this place, I'd eat here 3 or 4 times a week. If you have the chance to stop in here, please do.
