Went here Sunday after 8 pm for dinner. Basically empty inside, so we decided to dine in since it seemed like we had a decent amount of time before they closed. Staff were friendly and helpful while ordering. Food took a good while to come out; by the time it did, we took a few bites then had to pack it up since they were now beginning to closing. To eat: I decided to try their baked ziti (7/10) I felt like the portion was a little small for them to be an Italian/pizza place and it could've been more seasoned. Also got a side salad (5/10) nothing special and even after repeating what I wanted in the salad while ordering, it still didn't come out correct. Also tried a slice of cheesecake. From the moment we walked up to the counter until we received our food, it was not good. Should have walked out but other places closed at 2p. Lady who took our order was rude. Asked if catfish sandwich was good, she said I don't know. Place was almost empty but it took 20 minutes to get our sandwiches. Charged me $1 for ice water. Rather go to McD's or Jack's next time. Philly Cheesesteak is terrible, do not order here, one of the worst I have ever tasted, did eat half boxed the other half up, will see if the dog will eat it. I visited Mr. G's Pizza on April 7, 2026, and had an excellent experience, which is the ONLY reason I returned on April 8 around 11:30 AM. I am vegan, and on my first visit the staff was incredibly kind, patient, and accommodating. They took the time to make my salad exactly as requested (lettuce, black olives, green olives, cucumbers, and banana peppers only), ensured there was no cross-contamination, and even helped me choose a dressing I could safely have. I truly appreciated that level of care, especially since it can be difficult to find vegan-friendly options. That experience was a 5-star. Unfortunately, my experience the very next day was completely different. From the beginning, the service felt dismissive. I clearly explained my order multiple times and emphasized my dietary restrictions. Despite that, the food that was brought out was completely incorrect and included items I specifically said I could not eat, including cheese. When I calmly addressed the mistake, I was met with a rude and dismissive attitude. Instead of correcting the issue, the staff insisted I ordered something I did not. I have been vegan for over 20 years, so I am very clear and intentional about what I order. What made the situation worse was the lack of professionalism and transparency. I repeatedly asked to speak with a manager, but no one would clearly identify who the manager was. I was told the owner was "busy" and unavailable. It was later revealed that the person who had been speaking to me in a rude and unprofessional manner the entire time was actually the manager. Additionally, the owner never came out to address the situation, attempt to resolve the issue, or show any concern for how I was treated. That level of disregard for a customer experience is extremely disappointing. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable having my food remade and requested a refund, which was given. However, the experience itself was stressful, disrespectful, and completely inconsistent with the level of service I received the day before. It's unfortunate, because this location clearly has the ability to provide excellent service -- I experienced it firsthand. However, the behavior of management and lack of accountability made this a 1-star experience, and I would not return. The difference in treatment from one day to the next was shocking. I went into the restaurant Saturday night December 7th and ordered food to go. I ordered food to go the white lady mgr/ owner waited on me. I ordered Lasagna with a salad which was extra and a Ham and Cheese sandwich with extra thousand island dressing. I let the lady read my text. When they called my to go order number I went to the counter to pick it up. I got back to my hotel room and pulled out the food that I had ordered. My wife in the text that the manager had read her thousand island dressing wasn't in the bag. I ordered a Lasagna with a salad. I didn't have a salad in my bag. Now the manager supposedly checked my bag. My wife's sandwich is good. Remember I had ordered a salad well my thousand island dressing was in the bag but I had no salad so I gave the salad dressing to my wife. The Lasagna was good. I just don't know why I should have to check the order when the manager was supposedly doing that. read more

Great food I must say! We had the Lasagna lunch special and pleasantly surprised! Being from here and remembering the original Mr G's many years ago, both were/are great places to eat! Note Mr G's is now at a different location, as the original place is gone. But then I am talking 1974. My only complaint was the server when ordering. Perhaps be a little more friendly and customer oriented. This is going to be a very biased review. I live in Virginia currently, but I am originally from Demopolis. My Mom worked at Mr. G's when she was pregnant with me- so I've been eating Mr. G's since I was in the womb. My friend and I joke that, if something was ever to happen to G's, the city would get government funding to expedite the rebuilding process. Actually, when the original burned down- it took only a handful of months for them to rebuild on HWY 80. It's quick and greasy Italian, but this is clearly my favorite restaurant ever. True comfort Italian- Alabama style. The Po-Boy is great. The ham and cheese is better. My friends in Harrisonburg, VA swear the salads are the best they've ever had (turkey and cheese is my particular favorite). The holy grail of this place would have to be the lasagna (that comes with a small loaf of garlic bread and a salad.) My Mom would kill me if I didn't include the roast beef as one of the best items on the menu. The pizzas are good (BBQ tends to be a favorite), but they are the type of pizza that- if you take a bite, the cheese will slide off of the entire slice and slap you in the chin (which is all fine and good if you like cheese). If you go to Mr. G's, you might as well buy a case of their ranch dressing- it's the best you'll have. Growing up, we bought extra cups and would dip whatever we could find in it. Also, you have GOT to get the sweet tea. It's teeth-rotting comfort and is the pinnacle of true southern sweet tea. Don't miss it- it's cheap and there are no servers. The noodles should be aldente ...and there was minimal if any ricotta. My husbands ziti....same thing with the pasta...really over boiled. The salad was good and the roll....was a sub bun. We've eaten at Mr. G's twice. I wanted to give it the old college try before posting a review, just in case our first visit was just an off day for the staff. In both cases, the food was just okay and the service -- if you can call it that -- was delivered by angry and impolite people who evidently hated their jobs and despised the customers who provided their paychecks. Food-wise, the menu is broad and enticing. The flavors were okay -- we've tried Mr. G's spaghetti, Philly cheese steak, and reuben -- but while the spaghetti was plentiful, the sandwiches were skinny and underwhelming. The reuben was especially disappointing. The food genuinely rates two stars. On the other hand, the staff alone would make us not want to return to this place, even if they served five-star food. Simple courtesy -- e.g., the three magic words (please and thank you) -- and smiles go a long way in the restaurant business, yet neither were offered at Mr. G's. This could be fixed quickly by training, effective management, and if it comes to it, telling those employees who are obviously unhappy about working there to leave and not return until they change their negative attitudes. In the culinary desert that is Demopolis, this is one if the restaurants in town that isn't a fried food chain and is opened for lunch. As good as it gets for this area, but would only be 3.5 to 4 stars in a city. It is clean, the staff are friendly, and the portion size is generous. Service was quick, but I came in just before the place started filling up for lunch. I ordered the lasagna special. The lasagna stood up and wasn't soupy. Pasta sauce was sweeter than I like, but not overly so. Sauce is not spicy, and I wish they had red pepper on the table to kick it up. A solid choice to eat at in Demopolis. My cousin took me here for lunch. We both ordered salads. He had the ham and cheese salad and I had the Italian salad. The prices are a little high, in my opinion (+7.00). However you do end up with a heaping amount of meat on top. I asked for the black olives to be removed and they did but they then put a large cup of very oily green olives on top_that coated the entire salad in the oil. I was not a fan. Maybe I missed the description of green olives but I didn't want olives. I would like more tomatoes. Next time I'll be sure to ask. I will absolutely try the restaurant again. read more

The food is good and fast to receive, however the 2 older ladies at the cash register could kill you with their daggers for daring to ask for anything such as a fork, God forbid a refill. I heard it was good but the fact at a busy lunch no one had one at their table pizza told me not to order one even though I will be here a week, I may go back and try. I'm visiting the city for a week and decided to give this place a try. The menu is wide & varied for a pizza joint. Didn't look like pizza was their primary fare. Not a single soul was eating pizza. I selected the Tuesday special minus sauce. Chicken Italiano with salad & bread for about $8.50. The dish was diced grilled chicken on spaghetti covered with mozzarella cheese. It was good. Not great but better than expected for the price! Good homemade salad and the bread was delicious! I took home a slice of homemade pie to eat later. For the price, you just can't beat this place. REALLY, Mr. G's? I ordered a "CHICKEN TENDER PLATTER." According to your menu, it includes tenders, cole slaw, fries, and a roll. What do I get? Three tiny tenders that are approximately three inches long and a handful of fries dumped into the bottom of a paper bag, because whoever bagged it couldn't even be bothered to put the package of fries upright in the bag, and no cole slaw and no rolls. Apparently, your cashiers have the inability to listen, because I was sitting next to my sister when she placed the order for me, and she said "chicken tender platter." PLATTER, not three-piece tiny tender and a small handful of fries. It isn't even enough to fill up a small paper plate. At least now I know where to not bother eating anymore. This is the last straw for me, Mr. G's. Your food's been going drastically downhill for a long time, your cashiers spend more time goofing off, playing around, and hollering at each other than they do serving the customers, they appear to be deaf, and none of them know what they're doing. In recent months, I've gotten repeated incorrect orders and terrible food, and I'm sick of it. I'm through. I won't be back, and I'll be encouraging my friends to do the same. read more
