This is a hot new restaurant in historic downtown Demopolis! We saw the mayor here today. We entered an unpromising door at the sidewalk, and were faced by a long flight of ordinary stairs up. At the second floor is this Bistro. Go in the door and look to your right. You'll see two dining rooms with large windows, brightly painted walls, and wonderfully artistic furniture. I wonder what they're doing for handicapped accessibility. I don't know if they'll have ground floor dining, or a service elevator or what. Our Crab Chowder was excellent! It has a little Cajun heat to it, so I'd recommend only getting a cup, and ordering something else to eat with it to cool your mouth. Lunches are about $10, so I'd come here then. Supper is more like $20. Watch that extra last step out the door, so you don't fall onto the sidewalk!! read more

The food is noticeably microwaved, ESPECIALLY the sides. oh and not to mention the amount of roaches i've seen. this is NOT the place to go.

The fried green tomatoes were very good and the oysters on half shell. I do feel that the other servings were overpriced for the portions. I ordered pick up so unsure about the service really. Limited seating and only accessible by long flight of stairs. read more

Cute friendly little restaurant in the old downtown square area. We were on a boat in the nearby harbor and easily road our bikes. The stairs to the top are a bit unwelcoming feeling but well worth the climb. Fried rice was chock full of quality pork items. Carbonara was tasty. Delicious homemade peanut butter pie! Well we travel a lot & use Yelp to find hidden gems in small towns. This was not one of them!! We choose this little local restaurant because it had good reviews. Not sure what happen but the reviews did not match the food we received!! The cheeseburger was over salted!! The fries were very strange!! The fried grouper was disgusting !! I know I ordered fish but the smell was awful!! The potato was not to good either!! The salad was so small!! My advice is "pick a different restaurant"!!! read more

We were looking for a restaurant that is advertised on Yelp that is now closed and we came upon SVH Bistro. The atmosphere is like eating in someone's living room (carpeted floor) with table settings. There was another party of locals (7) and everyone was friendly. The owner is the former mayor of Demopolis and he is the cook. His wife is running the front half. The food was average. My burger was way overcooked, but probably people around here like it that way. I never was asked how done I wanted the meat. The bathroom has a toilet that doesn't flush. You spray it with disinfectant after use. It is up on a platform. Check it out for nostalgia! The best part was the kindness of the owners and the others eating when we were present. read more

This is the definition of a hidden gem. I was in Demopolis on a Monday and found this was one of the only places open on Monday. The food was amazing and the service staff very friendly. I recommend trying this place out. read more

A gem of a place in Marengo County. A local recommended the Bistro to us as a place to relax, have a nice glass of wine and enjoy good food. We more than achieved all three objectives. Mike and Susan, the proprietors, make everyone feel at home and like you are a part of the family. We liked this dining experience so much that we went back again two nights later. The first night we had a crab cake appetizer and one of the best burgers I have eaten. The second night we split a steak salad, and the steak was tender with an amazing dressing. I recommend that anyone close to Demopolis give the Bistro a try. You will have a great experience. read more

Excellent! One if the best places around...rotating menu done well. This is a mom and pop restaurant, which means your food is cooked to order and the service is a little slower, but its worth the wait. The environment is great for a date night or family dinner, or even if you just need a corner. read more

Everyone in our group seemed to be pleased with their drinks and food. This is my first time attending the spot for their dinner menu. We had a group of about 12-13 people and although things were slow, no one seemed to care because we were so busy laughing, enjoying drinks and each other. Worst service and food I've ever had in the state of Alabama. I do a lot of traveling with work and that's saying a lot. Took the server 20 minutes to get our drinks and the place was empty. We're from Coastal Alabama & this restaurant would fit in with the upscale restaurants in Mobile's entertainment district (LoDa) or Fairhope. NEVER expected to find this in Demopolis. By far, the worst dining experience our party of 6 has ever had....after 3 hours we got steaks that didn't meet a single "done-ness" that anyone asked for, it took an hour to get water, napkins or silverware, ran out of butter and one entree never even made it to the table. I usually like to give any newer restaurant the benefit of the doubt, but by looking around, we weren't the only one with this experience! Avoid this place like the plague... read more
