Although the ribs wasn't fall off the bone, the meat was still pretty tender. The beans and Mac and cheese were also good, but nothing to rave about. What I was disappointed in was the peach cobbler, it was so bad. Dry and gummy-and kind of expensive-I believe it was almost $4 for a small sauce sized container. Our large order included two rib plates, yet after waiting for almost a hour, with numerous other customers coming in and out, someone from the back finally came out and announced that they had ran out of ribs and the wait for ribs would be a hour long... we had already been waiting for a hour tho ?? The miscommunication / lack of communication from the kitchen had some customers ready to get their money back, but my order of ribs finally came out after another 30 mins ... I ordered a rib and pork plate with Mac and cheese and potato salad as sides (7.5/10) I enjoyed the potato salad the most. The ribs looked big, but there really wasn't much meat on them compared to the size of the bone. Both the pork and ribs were dry and def needed the sauce that was included. The meats with the sauce did have good seasoning / flavor tho. I also tried their banana pudding (8/10). I'd stop back in here when in town again, but next time, eat in the actual restaurant when it's fresh and hot. My overall rate of experience : 7.8/10

We came here based on Yelp reviews (there really isn't much in the area). Seeing the accolades and rave reviews gave us high expectations, which were quickly dashed. We went in to place our order and found the cashier impatient. As far as we could tell, the only menu is taped to the counter directly in front of the register, so you can't really decide what you want until you get up there. Among my family of 4, we got pulled chicken, burgers, and chicken tenders with various sides. The pulled chicken was good, but the white BBQ sauce was overly sweet and not good. The burgers and chicken tenders are all just cooked from frozen, so nothing special. The slaw was truly horrible-- mayonnaise-based with imitation bacon bits leaching their color into the dressing. The onion rings were actually good-- fried nice and crispy, but again, pre-frozen. All the while, you're sitting in a gas station with flies everywhere. In summary, the food was edible, but it was certainly nothing to write home about. It tasted like your typical fairground food at more reasonable prices.

Doesn't look like much when you walk past, but I was practically dying of hunger so I popped in. The definition of a hole-in-the-wall. I got the regular hamburger and wow... there are no words. A classic burger done right. Crisp bun, juicy patty, stuffed with all the essentials (ketchup, shredded lettuce, tomato, and pickles). There's about a million options available between the menu board and wall full of specials, so it can get a little overwhelming, but you really can't go wrong. Not much else to say besides go see for yourself! You won't be disappointed. read more

Since 1870, Weidmann's has welcomed everyone from railroad workers and weary travelers to soldiers and hometown heroes, earning its place in Mississippi's history. Founded by Swiss immigrant Felix Weidmann, the restaurant opened during Meridian's rise as one of the South's busiest railroad crossroads. During World War I, the restaurant temporarily relocated to Hattiesburg to help feed the thousands of soldiers training at nearby Camp Shelby. One of its quirkiest traditions is the complimentary peanut butter and crackers brought to every table. During World War II, butter rationing led the restaurant to serve peanut butter and crackers instead. Customers loved it so much that the tradition continues more than 80 years later. In 1935, when brothers Al and Fred Key took to the skies in their airplane, Ole Miss, they weren't just chasing a world record--they were trying to save Meridian's airport from closing during the Great Depression. They spent an unbelievable 653 hours and 34 minutes--more than 27 days--without landing. They stayed aloft by pioneering air-to-air refueling techniques. Their record stood until astronauts aboard Skylab surpassed the duration in space in 1973. One of the celebrations honoring their historic flight took place right here at Weidmann's, forever connecting the restaurant to one of aviation's greatest achievements. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and they were outstanding. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy and full of flavor, and every bite tasted fresh and homemade. Of course, you can't leave without trying their famous peanut butter and crackers--a tradition that's become part of the restaurant's history. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was warm and full of character, and you can tell they take pride in preserving this historic landmark. If you appreciate great Southern food and places with a story to tell, Weidmann's is absolutely worth the stop.
