Squealers was recommended to us while traveling back home. This isn't Texas bbq, but does have its own flavor and flair. The highlights were the pulled pork, chicken, fried corn bread, Mac and cheese, and butter beans... The ribs were tough and brisket was not only fatty, but dry at the same time. The OG BBQ sauce is great on the fried pork skins, but need to ask for the Hot bbq sauce to add in flavor to some of the meats.. All in all this place is worth the detour and trying out. As someone who's lived in Texas for multiple decades, this isn't Texas BBQ. That being said... it's pretty good The restaurant itself is rather rustic, and the interior and exterior patio were decorated in fall and Halloween decorations The menu has BBQ options, but the majority of entrees felt more like bar food. I'm used to being able to order a 2 or 3 meat plate, but these options don't exist here. You can try any of their meats separately, and here's one option to try virtually all their meets The staff was friendly and greeted us. I'm a pretty simple guy, I'm not very picky when it comes to food. But this was hands down the worst BBQ I've ever had. The brisket tasted like it was sliced up and cooked in a crock pot with some McCormick seasoning. The Mac n cheese was about the only good side. The bbq sauce looked like tomato sauce it was very watery. Floors were super sticky. My wife got the smoked chicken, it tasted like it was cooked in an oven. The potatoes were hard and not cooked, and the beans tasted like cheap canned beans. The ice cold mason jars for the drinks was the only positive for me. Came to Meridian, MS for a telecom showcase and decided to try Squealer's. I was pleasantly surprised. I ate on the covered patio which was nice and clean. The server was very friendly and attentive from my entering to leaving. I got the 3 rib with 2 sides(butter beans and green beans) and it was all delicious. Soda came in a mason jar which was cool. Driving through in the interstate and we wanted BBQ but not that chain place. So we found this gem. The menu is big. They have burgers and bbq and wings and lots of other things to choose from. All done well. And they give you free homemade pork skins. I got a pulled pork sandwich. It was good. My husband got the sampler. Let me tell you it was a lot of food. This is a dive barbecue place with delicious food. Instead of bread, fried pork rinds/skins are brought to the table. My wife and I split the sampler entrée, so we could try the brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken wings, pulled pork, and chicken. The brisket was great, even though it was a little salty. I ate all of it. Sausage is not generally my favorite, but this one was delicious. Ribs & the pulled pork were both very good. My wife said the chicken was good. My daughter got a large smoked potato with cheese and chicken. I tried a bit and it was good as well. The portions were large-- two of us could not finish the sampler (which was less than $20). First you may experience getting a little lost from the directions that came up on Google Maps. The map showed the restaurant to be on the opposite side of North Hills Drive which is actually marked as 29th St. Look for the Advance Auto shop on the corner and Squealers is across the street. We arrived 30 minutes before closing and the staff were very nice and served us right away. Food was hot and tasty. The 1/2 slab dinner was huge and there was no way I could finish. On a road trip and wanted something besides fast food so we drove off the main highway about 10 minutes to Squealer's. We were greeted immediately by the gentleman behind the bar, he had us choose our preferred seats, then we were greeted within 1 minute by a lovely server. A few tv's were on, not too loud. Food and drinks were served within quick and reasonable amount of time. The ribs were moist fall of the bone delicious, greens and mac n cheese were great. Loved the house made honey bbq sauce, though its not needed but curiosity paid off - very good not too sweet bbq sauce recipe. It was worth the hike to get there. If I could just review the food, I'd give them 5 stars. They bring you free pork cracklings when they get your drink order. Almost all of the food was so delicious. I had the Mango Pepper Wings, my friends had ribs, brisket, and a pork chop sandwich. The Mac and cheese had no flavor whatsoever. Very disappointing. Other than that, the food was awesome. Now, the service was awful. One girl took our order, but then the manager sent her home. (We were later told that she had hurt her ankle. I get that.) The new waitress didn't come right over and introduce herself, but when she finally did, it was very... awkward. It took forever for our food to come out, and when it did, we reminded her that we had ordered something to-go. She said, "ok," and left. We ate, I think she came around one time. It was not busy at all. When we were done, we waited and waited, and finally stopped her to get a box and our checks. We reminded her about our to-go order. She looked at us like we had three heads, then disappeared. The assistant manager then came out, she nicely explained what happened, but didn't offer us a discount on anything. I thought she should have at least discounted the to-go order that they put in, but she didn't. The order finally came out, but our waitress didn't come to get our payment. We ended up taking them to the very not friendly bartender, who did not seem very knowledgeable of the point of sale system. TL;DR: Food is awesome, service needs a lot of work. This place is amazing. My love and I took my youngest sister and our stepdad here for supper the Saturday after Valentine's Day as a Valentines Day treat to them and each other. We lost my mom in January of 2023 and since then Valentine's Day has been hard on my stepdad, my baby sister and me so we wanted to put a smile on their faces. 3 of us got the half slab dinner and it was big enough that just 1 would have fed 2 of us not to mention the sides were huge to. The ribs were so tender that they were falling off the bone tender. My baby sister and I both also got the large Strawberry cake jar and it was so delicious. Our waiter was so nice and he knew exactly what we would like before we even ordered and everything came out really fast where I was thinking it was going to be at least 30-45 minutes like at most bbq restaurants it was out to us in less than 20 minutes. I loved the ambiance of the place because they use mason jars for glasses and they have it setup where it feels like you have walked into an old time salon from a western. Never been a southern style BBQ fan, I normally prefer KC style, but this place may have just evened the playing field. Loved the original and honey bbq sauces, very light but very tangy. Brisket was phenomenal, ribs were bigger than anywhere I've ever been, and to top it all off the corn fritter was delicious as well.
