A must try!!! In town for the holiday and searching for food, I saw another Yelper review this place so I called to see if they were open, no answer, so like other establishments I assumed they were closed too. 2 mins later they call back and a friendly man says yes, I'm open all day. So we took the 30 min ride to check him out and the place was packed! We dined in and ordered a half slab, a whiting and rib combo, and catfish/rib combo. BOMB!!! The owner brought out our food and he was so nice and friendly and engaged with us. He's originally from Chicago too so that made the engagement even better! With solid food, friendly fast service, and a clean facility I'll definitely be back when I'm in town! I love here. read more

A bit of advice: here's the PLACE for tasty, meaty ribs, seasoned perfectly and smoked so completely. Wow. It's a deal too--two rib plates with two sides each (and these are not puny servings) and two drinks: $31 with tax included. Recommended sides: Lima beans, field peas, Mac and cheese, and okra--lightly battered, fried spot on where pieces are crispy and not soggy. Such quality and quantity-- you have to go to the smaller southern towns to find these places anymore. Easy enough to find off the interstate, parking on site but limited number of tables inside. The food we had was delicious and made with love. The owner made sure we were satisfied with our order. He saw us discussing the order and asked if something was wrong. I told him I thought I ordered the smaller portion but seemed to have ordered the larger one. I told him it was ok but he wanted to make it right so she corrected the order and refunded me the difference. It was obvious he took pride in his establishment and customer satisfaction. When we were finished he was asked how we like it and where we're from. He was very personable. Highly recommend! read more

This restaurant has become one of our go to BBQ places while I am visiting. No issues with the customer service or food, both very consistent. They are busy so if not dining in, call ahead is a plus! We were traveling and passing through on way back to MN. I had not any southern Barbecue in Alabama. This had somewhat good reviews on Yelp. We were the only white people inside at first. My parents don't eat much and wanted to split. One guy kept saying that's not enough food. Sister convinces us to just order alacarte combo. She kept calling my mom "mama". It was hilarious. They ordered beef ribs, pork ribs, beans and fried okra. I had brisket, coleslaw and collard greens and corn muffin. The brisket was smoked nicely but dry, and some fat, which I trimmed. Needed Barbecue sauce. The Barbecue sauce was awesome. They should bottle and sell it. The collard greens, coleslaw and fried okra were good. Sweet tea was awesome with a free refill. Corn bread muffin, could have been moister. My parents liked the pork ribs, but said beef ribs were tough. A sheriff's deputy was packing and sat at a nearby table. Felt very safe. Another fun random BBQ stop on the highway between Nashville and New Orleans. (We asked the lady at the gas station and she said this was the closest BBQ joint, not the best though. Thanks Gas Station Lady!! She was right ON!) We had a rib plate with crowder peas and some greens. Both of our sides were delicious, the sort of thing that I hope to find while hunting out home-style BBQ on the side of the highway. The ribs were just O.K., sort of tough (I like my ribs falling off the bone.) The flavor was great, maybe a little salty, nice mellow smoky flavor, but just tougher than I like. (AND, if your gonna paint the slogan on the side of your building...I needed my teeth, just sayin') The guys behind the counter could have been a little friendlier, but we were clearly out-of-towners, and, if your are gonna have counter ordering you should have a sign readily available to let your guest know what your selling....just a suggestion. I would totally go back to try other things on the menu, and get some more of those green and crowder peas...YUM!! read more

We walked in and we're immediately greeted. The owner was there and helped recommend what to try. My husband had ribs with collard greens (he'd never had greens before) and Mac and cheese. I had sliced brisket with fries and baked beans. All of it was excellent. Our daughter had a side of Mac and cheese. They brought the food out and continued to check on us. The place is a small quaint place. Would absolutely return here. Service and food both were great. read more

We were traveling through Meridian on our way home from Texas and found this bbq place. So glad we stopped in! We got both ribs and rib tips. It says outside the building that you don't need teeth to eat Shack's meat and it's probably true. Portions were large enough that we could have split a plate. Their fried okra is really good too. All of the sides looked good and we wished we could have tried all of them. Would definitely return if we are in the area in the future. read more

Great BBQ place. We had the rib plate for 2 with 2 sides. St Louis style ribs were tender with a punchy rub. BBQ sauce was great. Baked beans were sweet and smoky. Lots of local folks were eating here so we knew it must be good, and it was. read more

Alright but no where near as good as we hoped. Smoked chicken had little of the smoked taste. The sliced brisket was good but half the slices were sliced wrong. Ordered corn bread got white bread. The fries were delicious, good seasoning and the cole slaw was excellent. Yams were very good. The Shack was very busy when we left. Prices are a little high. read more

If your traveling through looking for some good BBQ then come grab a rack of ribs and a drink! I myself get the Chicago style fries wet. It's a large plate of fries with bbq rib tips on top. It's pricey with a drink but it's enough for 2 all day. read more

4 stars! One of the good things about Meridian Mississippi. Believe me there aren't many but this place is soothing to my southern bones. Quote from I'm going to get you sucka. "How much for a rib?" These ribs are so good I recommend you be careful eating them in the parking lot. Someone may bop you over the head and take them. read more

My family and I were looking for a good meal here in Meridian. Ms. We decided to stop by the rib shack and was amazed at what we experience, the customer was terrific, and the food was delicious; I had BBQ CHICKEN and baked beans. By far the best BBQ in Meridian. I make a stop here each time I'm in Meridian. I always get the ribs or rib tips. And this trip I decided to try the beef brisket. Absolutely delicious and very tender. I've never tried the sides or desserts. I've never eaten inside the restaurant but there are tables. This is definitely a to go spot for most. I'm not sure how any one can give this place less than a five star review! The food here is simply delicious! My mom and I are in town for a family reunion and stopped here for a late lunch. We each had the rib plate and a few sides. We were both really impressed with how fall off the bone good the ribs were! And the sides were cooked to perfection! We're in town for a few more days and plan to stop by a few more times before leaving. read more

The owner is also the Cashier! He is very rude. I felt unwelcome. I paid for my order and was owed 22 cent back he had closed the register and I told him he owed me. He went into a mad rage about how he make thousands and don't need to cheat no one. My thing is if you make all this money why get so mad about my 22 cent you owe to me ? The food was very greasy. I order beef and got Pork. The bake beans was just regular pork n beans they left something to be desired. The sauce was Watered down and greasy. My fried Okra was over cooked "burned". The best bbq in Meridian is no other then Rib Shack! Try the ribs, chicken, seafood, and so forth. I like the catfish, macaroni and cheese, English peas, and expectly the ribs their dessert like Strawberry cake and Caramel cake is awesome. I been going there nearly twenty years Mr. Shack is the best bbq man today and then with some of his workers deceased and today are the greatest cooks. 1 STAR - only b/c I was starving! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, Mac & cheese & coleslaw. Mac & cheese AND the pulled pork were cold. Now, let's talk about the man that took my order.... Ummm he won't be awarded the "Mr. Congeniality" title. I have never been here before - so no idea how this place operated OR what I wanted to eat. He made me feel rushed. So much so - I forgot to order a drink & didn't notice until my meal arrived. Not ONCE did he say... "Ma'am, would you like a drink?" I won't be a return customer. I had the BBQ rib plate with two sides; yams and collard greens. BBQ sauce was a cross between the sweeter Kansas City BBQ sauce and the more "vinegary" Carolina BBQ sauce. Excellent food, but service was a bit unwelcoming. I did not realize how close it was to closing time when we got there, but noticed they locked the front door while we were still eating. They close pretty early (I think it's 7:00pm), so make sure you get there early in the evening. read more

The restaurant is always crowded so there must be something desirable about it, but if you want your food as a family of four or you don't want to wait excessively long periods of time then go somewhere else. Stopped at Rib Shack in Meridian, MS during a road trip and I'm so glad I did! Got the rib plate and it did not disappoint -- 6 hearty beef ribs, loaded with flavor. You could tell the smoker was going out back the second you walked in. For sides I went with the mac and cheese and baked beans, and both were on point. Big Mama was back in the kitchen putting in that work, and you could taste the care in every bite. Portions were generous -- this plate was loaded with food, no skimping here. We made a 5:00 reservation (online), walked in at 5:02, and were immediately greeted with such a warm welcome that we instantly felt welcome. Our server recommended the pineapple lemon drop--absolutely delicious! The house salad with the warm bacon dressing was magical, and my husband loved the peppercorn ranch. Both ribeyes were cooked to perfection, the green beans were fresh (definitely not from a can!), and the mushrooms were packed with flavor. As we were leaving, we stopped to take a picture and learned that the friendly young woman who had welcomed and served us was actually the owner, Semmes. Her father purchased the restaurant in 1990, and after his passing in 2024, she proudly took over the family business. Watching her interact with every guest, it was clear she genuinely loves what she does. She was a ray of sunshine to everyone who walked through the door. I also loved seeing her dad's antique car parked outside--a sweet tribute to his legacy. If you're from the Meridian area or just passing through on I-20, do yourself a favor and stop here. I want people to know about this restaurant, so they make lots of money and stay here for a long time. I also want it to be just like it was tonight when I was there - Light crowd, easy going, relaxing. You can let your guard down in this place. And I just loved it. I went for the basics on my first try- Steak, baked potato, broccoli, salad. Let's focus on that steak - Petit Filet, 8oz, medium. Easily one of the best steaks I have ever had. Top 3. Great job. I sat at the bar and was greeted warmly by all of the staff members. The bartender was so kind and welcoming. I enjoyed their Easy Street gin cocktail and I ordered the yellowfin tuna for my meal. The tuna was DELICIOUS. The vibe is very calming and HG seems like a very nice place to unwind. They had a lot of regulars which is always a good sign. I can't recommend this place enough. Definitely a keeper!
