Look no further! Southern/Soul Food perfection! Good Prices. We are here visiting our son who is here for school. A self proclaimed foodie I was very excited to try the food in Alabama for the first time. We stayed first in Birmingham and tried some places that were highly recommended and featured on some shows. They were good but for me did not live up to the hype. We checked into our hotel and headed towards the court house square in town. We checked out the sites, learned about the history of Marion, and shopped a bit so we worked up an appetite. We stopped into Lottie's and immediately received a warm welcome. We came for lunch. They had a lot of people ordering take out. As guests we were treated as if we were more like friends or family. As for the food.....again perfection. I ordered the Chicken plate. It came with two sides of your choice and toast. The Chicken was crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. Seriously the best fried Chicken I've ever had. For sides I ordered the Mac and Cheese, fried okra, and added the green beans. The Mac and Cheese was rich & flavorful. The fried okra was crispy, flavorful and moist but not slimy. The greens beans were also the best green beans I've ever had. I could eat a whole bowl of it .....it was so tasty. My husband rarely orders seafood at restaurants. He opted for the catfish and shrimp platter and was not disappointed. I tried some of his food as well. The seafood was cooked perfectly and was flavorful. Fried onion rings were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. He enjoyed it very much. We aren't use to meals this large. It was so good we ate everything. I wish I lived closer because I would come in at least once a week even if it meant an hour drive each way. Since we are just passing through I'm planning to come back tomorrow before heading out and for sure will head there every time we are out this way.

    My beautiful lunch date!

The fried catfish plate with fried okra and a baked potatoe is what I had most recently and it was out of this world.

If you're looking for the go-to BBQ spot in Selma, this is it. No question. This place delivers…read morethat authentic, Southern, mom-and-pop barbecue experience that you hope for when you're in Alabama. They cover most of the BBQ classics -- pork, chicken, ribs, burgers, and all the traditional Southern sides -- though no brisket here. Honestly? You won't even miss it. We ordered the 1/2 lb of BBQ pork plate with fried okra and corn nuggets (the plate comes with two sides, which is perfect). The pork was everything great barbecue should be: moist, smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. You could taste the care in every bite. It's the kind of meal that makes you slow down and savor it. The fried okra was crispy and seasoned just right, and the corn nuggets were golden little bites of happiness -- slightly sweet, crunchy outside, soft inside. A perfect pairing with the pork. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gladly offered suggestions for sides and made us feel like regulars even though it was our first visit. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. Parking is right out front -- probably around eight spots -- and they do fill up quickly, especially at lunch. The restaurant was busy with mostly locals, which is always a great sign. The location is tucked away in a residential area, so definitely look up directions beforehand. There's a small street sign, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. All in all, this spot has that genuine small-town BBQ charm with big-time flavor. If you're in Selma and craving real Southern barbecue, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

We also added in some fried hot wings, which were crunchy and pleasantly spiced. On the side, we enjoyed the crispy slaw and sweet corn nuggets. Of course we washed it all down with some sweet tea. Man, I wish I could have those ribs for breakfast every day! Also, the folks at Lannie's were really nice.

On Father's Day, our original lunch plans fell through after Curry Up, Eugene's Hot Chicken, and Boston Fish Market were all closed. That led us to Thelma's Place, a restaurant that had already been on my list to try, so we decided to give it a shot and ordered our meal to go. The first thing that stood out was the hospitality. Everyone we encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Around 1:00 p.m., the restaurant wasn't busy, and the service was prompt. From an ambiance standpoint, there isn't much to speak of. The dining room is simple and functional, and the overall presentation could be elevated with improved lighting and a more polished steam table display. Those details may seem small, but they help create stronger first impressions. I ordered the meatloaf with collard greens and candied yams. The portion size was generous, but the meatloaf itself needed more seasoning to really stand out. The collard greens were one of the best items we tried, full of flavor without being overpowering, and the candied yams were solid. The cornbread was also a nice addition. My wife and Bethany both ordered fried chicken wings, even though they weren't listed on the menu. Those turned out to be a hidden gem. They were crispy, golden brown, hot, and cooked just right. For sides, my wife chose cornbread dressing and macaroni and cheese. We both felt the dressing had too much sage, which masked the other flavors. The macaroni and cheese was decent but not memorable. Bethany also enjoyed the collard greens and agreed that the macaroni and cheese was just okay. One disappointment was that they were sold out of oxtails, which would have been my wife's first choice. I was also hoping to see smothered pork chops available but didn't notice them. The pricing felt fair, and the portions offered good value. The biggest takeaway? Order the fried chicken and collard greens. Those were the clear standouts from our visit. I'd also be interested in returning when the oxtails are available, as they appear to be one of the restaurant's signature items. Thelma's Place didn't hit a home run across the board, but the friendly service, good value, and standout fried chicken made it a worthwhile stop. With a few improvements to seasoning and presentation, it has the potential to leave an even stronger impression.
