Very busy place so it took a while to get my order to go. Got pulled pork and 2 rib combo with Cole slaw and Lima beans. Pulled pork was tender, no fat, but didn't have any Smokey taste. The BBQ sauce was "meh". The ribs had good taste but the meat on the bones was borderline hard. The coleslaw had a funky taste so I only ate one bit. Lima beans are pretty hard to mess up, they just needed a bit of salt. EDIT: I just saw on my bank statement that this plate was $30.00!!! It was not worth $15! Won't be back!! read more

Lannie's Bar-B-Q - Pulled pork and rib combo with coleslaw and Lima beans - Barbeque Near Me - Selma, Alabama

Came here visiting from out of state to try Selma'a favorite BBQ spot. It was pretty underwhelming. I've gotten similar quality BBQ right here in Denver. Prices were fair and the staff were friendly. I found it quite odd that half the seats were coned off and not usable which wasn't the best look. Overall, I don't regret visiting, and it was a good one time visit. read more

I was staying in Selma for the night and searched up a good BBQ spot. Lannie's had top reviews and stars. So I decided to check them out. I'm from Texas so I'm already critical of BBQ but I was in the South and the country the BBQ should be good right? NOT! From the moment you walked in you could tell it was a local spot. No greeting, you just get asked what do you want. I placed an order for 1/2 chicken with Mac & Cheese and beans. They had folding chairs to sit down because the dining area was blocked off from sitting. I paid, and sat down. I wasn't given a number or asked my name. After about 15-20 min I got up to see if my order was ready. There was a line by this time. The girl that took my order said "you got the 1/2 chicken right?" Oh here it is. It had been sitting there. She bagged it up, I asked for sauce and utensils. I got to the room and was starving. I looked at the chicken. Didn't notice any char like I'm used too. But I said maybe it will still taste good. I tasted the Mac and cheese. Needed salt. The beans were OK tasted like they came out of a can. The chicken was dry and didn't look cooked all the way as I got closer to the bone. The sauce was basically watery ketchup. I ate the roll and beans. The rest went in the trash and I ordered a pizza. Maybe I ordered the wrong meat, I know this was a miss for me. read more

Lannie's Bar-B-Q - 1/2 chicken with Mac and cheese and beans - Barbeque Near Me - Selma, Alabama

Small locally owned barbeque joint recommended by the hotel clerk down the road. I really enjoyed the bbq pork sandwich - I think it had a fried pork rind on it which was a surprising treat. Sides collards and fried corn were both excellent. Staff was friendly. Not the best ambiance but I would definitely go back for a good quick quiet meal. read more

While the staff was courteous and professional, I would have to say that was the high point of my experience here. The outside had a cool vibe and the inside had probably once been cool, but now they only offer takeout and the inside is cluttered with supplies and whatnot. Not the best ambiance. I ordered the half chicken and for my sides, I went with collard greens and the potato salad. As I ate at one of the benches outside, I found the chicken to be dry and the barbecue sauce to be mediocre at best (and that is a kind assessment). The sides were okay, though nothing special. I also found it a bit strange that the potato salad had the potatoes basically mashed instead of cubed. This place seemed pretty popular with the locals. It was pretty busy. Again, I just found it to be a bit weak overall. read more

Finally! During my short stay in Montgomery, AL, I have found AUTHENTIC homemade southern bbq. It was lick every drop off my fingers delicious! I was referred to this place by a gal in the Selma Visitors Center. Just a short drive from the famous Edmund Pettus Bridge. The staff was friendly and the food was delivered quick and hot! They aren't allowing dine in, so unfortunately I had to drive off with it, but nonetheless I enjoyed every bite! read more

Their bbq and hamburgers are good most of the time. But they have messed up our take out order many time. It used to be so much better years ago but it's gone down hill the last 5 or 6 years. They would benefit from having friendlier staff too. Most of the time they seem like they can't be bothered with you. Even when you call your order in , once you get there you still have to wait a long time. Now there is not any place to sit down to eat because they have boxes and packages stuffed everywhere. So it's take out only. I'm sorry but it's true. read more

Always fantastic service. And the best Mac and cheese. And the Bbq it the best in town

Food - bought a slab of ribs, pints of Cole slaw, Mac & cheese, collard greens and spicy BBQ sauce. The price was good for all that food. All the sides were flavorful and properly seasoned. Yum!! The ribs were flavorful and tender. I will order this way the next time I go. Lots of other good stuff on the menu read more

I had a good experience at Lannies #2. I had the fried fish with mac n cheese and collards. My dining companion had the brisket and okra and some other side. He did not enjoy his food at all. Poor baby. He wanted me to give two stars. But that fried fish I had was Delicious!!! It was fried perfectly and the flavor was so good. The Mac n cheese is advertised as homemade seemed like a short cut homemade. Food in Montgomery was delicious and homemade. If in Selma, I would totally come back for the fish. And the lemonade and sweet tea was homemade and delicious, unlike what we experienced when we got to Atlanta. Bottom line: fried fish delicious! Drinks delicious. Sides just okay. read more

Passing through Selma headed East when we came across Lannie's: simply delicious! Brisket was tender and well marinated in a vinegar-based, well seasoned au jus. Came with two sides: fried okra & collard greens, and corn bread all for $12. Dining room closed due to Covid but will reopen soon. Yummy Alabama-style bbq; we'll go back again when we're in Selma. read more

Was in town for business and decided to check this place out. Didn't see any dine-in guests as most people were picking up pre-ordered meals. Looks like phoning in your order for pick is the way to go. Ordered beef brisket, collard greens, and soup. The meal came with a small piece of corn bread. Overall okay food in my estimation.. would go back for the soup and corn bread. read more

Delish home cooked bbq. The sauce is thin and holds a nice kick. The slaw is "just right" in terms of thickness, and collard greens typical if perhaps a bit salty. Comfy, booth style seating. Don't let the outside facade fool you. The food is great - a taste of real bbq in Selma. read more

I'm giving it a 5 star because the food was awesome and the staff is friendly with positive attitude to boot. If you ever visiting Selma, Alabama please come by here to get a good meal. My wife had a bake potato loaded with grill onion, bell pepper, broccoli, cheese, sour cream, chicken and shrimp. I had the BBQ Brisket plate with rice topped with gravy and broccoli and cheese. We also took in an appetizer of corn fritters and fried green tomatoes. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Delicious to another level. Also it's very clean inside. read more

Different BBQ then I've had elsewhere. The sauce was fairly thin and reminded me quite a bit of louisiana style hot sauce. I got a good 1/2 chicken on my plate too. The fried Okra was hot and fresh, and had not been previously frozen. The baked beans were in a nice thicky spicy sauce and were cooked with what I believe was bacon, or some other pork product. The bun was average, but nice to have to sop up the extra sauce on my plate from both the beans and the chicken. I believe they also had a few items such as chef salads and sandwiches for take out. The sign outside also advertised that they were available for catering, and had a room you could rent out for events. Everyone there was related and a few adorable kids told me how their gramma was the one that cooked me dinner, and how they were going to get ice cream when they were done visiting her. read more

Lannie's is legendary Selma BBQ. I grew up in Selma, so I still have fond memories of visiting the #1 location on Minter. I remember the smoky room, the fiery pit behind the counter, and the juke box in the right corner. Having moved to Texas my taste for BBQ has changed, but I still visit Lannie's if for nothing more than tradition. Now for my adult take on the food. On this visit we got take-out: ribs, pulled pork, fried catfish, baked beans, and cole slaw. My biggest reaction to the food was..."Wow this is all really sweet!" The baked beans, cole slaw and BBQ sauce were very sweet...a bit too sweet for my current taste. The ribs and pulled pork had a nice taste but needed the sauce (which was quite runny) to really be acceptable. The catfish probably had the best taste of the meats. It was fried a little too hard for me but was tasty. I guess I've just gotten accustomed to TX BBQ, but will always return to Lannie's when in Selma. Next time I'll go with da fish sammich. read more

Lannie's came highly recommended by a friend that used to live in Selma. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. It was good but nothing special. Here are the scores: Spare ribs: 6/10 tough on the outside and weak sauce Mac and cheese: 5/10 needs richer flavor and stiffer noodles Coleslaw: 7/10 good Roll: 5/10 probably bought from the Piggly Wiggly French fries: 6/10 large and flimsy- needed extra cook time Fries green tomatoes: 7.5/10 (liked by my wife) read more

No problem giving this restaurant 5 stars. Why? The service was not great. They were understaffed. The sides were average. But the meat is absolutely fantastic. This is authentic southern pit whole hog bbq. It's a taste you can't get any other way. Grease and fire and repeat. Most places these days cook shoulders- no comparison to the mix of meat found in whole hog. Real southern q. The ribs had that same Smokey pit taste. If you are looking for the best bbq this has to be on the list. I had the ribs and got a sandwich to go. read more

We were driving thru Selma to visit family. My dad says he heard on a tv show that there was good barbecue in Selma. I googled it and found Lannies as #1 and#2 in town. Have to say if you are not a fan of vinegar based barbecue, you will not like the meat. My dad says it was the worst barbecue he ever had. (Mind you we are a military family with lots of travel and varied dining experiences). He talked about that food for two days at our family reunion, every time with a frown on his face. We both will not eat there again. Now for something nice. This company has been around a long time. The restaurant has ties going back to the civil rights movement and beyond. I was able to read some highly complementary historical articles while we waited for the food. The restaurant was fairly busy with in-store and takeout traffic being steady the whole time we were there. So maybe it was just dad and I. Having watched many shows on barbecue I am more of a dry rub fan, Kansas City/Texas style fan. This place is more South Carolina whole hog style. Giving 2 stars for business longevity and important role in Civil rights movement. read more

If you are in or near Selma, stop in for great southern BBQ and super friendly service! Yummy, tender, brisket, pork sandwiches, and slaw.

New Year's Eve I sent my husband to get me a burger and fries they gave me all mixed left over fries cause it was about closing time . It wasn't even a full order they gave me fry crumbs and I've never had a problem with this place I send people from my work there but I don't send them no more . Ended up ordering the ribs, bbq sandwich, catfish and a small hamburger(for the kid). Everyone gave finger licking good reviews on the food!!
