Let me begin with the staff. Welcoming, helpful, worked hard to make sure our experience was excellent. Ambiance: if you like rustic chic, western with a touch of modern, then you'll love this place. Food: here's where they lost a star. The food was good, really good, but the prices didn't match the quality. I had the filet, it was cooked perfectly. But almost $60 for an 8 oz filet with no sides - I felt like it was excessive. Cheyenne in Kingsburg, steak is a touch better, and the sides and bread are amazing (they're included) for the same price. Again, it's really good, just a tad spendy. read more

Food was amazing!! There have been mixed reviews on service and food, we personally didn't have any issues. It started raining pretty hard so the entryway was difficult to maneuver with everyone trying to stay out of the rain. We had reservations and showed up 15 minutes early with our table ready. Miguel was our waiter and he was amazing! All his suggestions were spot on and he explained everything on the menu as soon as he came to our table. Scallops were tender and flavorful and were a decent size. Only came with 3 but was more than enough for 2 to share. Octopus was also cooked to perfection. Also tender and not chewy like most places. Best part was the crispy potatoes. A little salty for my palate but still good. Ribeye with bone marrow butter was probably one of the better steaks we've had at a restaurant. Just the right amount of fat to meat and tender enough to cut with a butter knife. One thing I can appreciate is it didn't have that nasty piece of tendon that runs through most ribeyes u get at restaurants and grocery stores. Also had the Dungeness crab cake with risotto. Not really a fan of risotto but the flavors melded well and was divine! Service wasn't bad for a Saturday night without long waits between appetizers and entrees and all the staff were nice and pleasant. We came at 5 on a Friday and had a great experience. The service was great-- very attentive. I ordered the chef's special, halibut plate, and started with a Ranch salad. Ball very good, fresh with filling portions. My husband ordered a Rib Eye, which was amazing. It melted in your mouth! Yep, took multiple bites. We recently dined at The Ranch in Visalia and had a mixed experience. We made a reservation and the restaurant itself is beautiful. However, when we walked in, no one acknowledged us for a while, and it wasn't clear where we were supposed to go to be seated. If you're making a reservation, I recommend specifying your seating preference ahead of time, as they have very low tables and high tops that may not be ideal for everyone. We started with the bread appetizer ($8), which was supposed to include sourdough, focaccia, and baguette. Unfortunately, we only received sourdough. It had grill marks but was cold, like it had been sitting out. It also came with what was described as whipped butter, but it was actually cold and solid. The flavor was good, but the execution missed the mark, especially since bread isn't complimentary here. We also ordered the pork belly appetizer, but it never arrived. Our server was friendly at first, but once the restaurant got busier (and what seemed like regulars came in), service became very limited and we felt a bit overlooked. For our main course, we both ordered the filet mignon, and this was definitely a highlight. The steaks were cooked perfectly to medium and seasoned well. The asparagus was also good. However, the timing of the food was off. Our steaks were brought out well before our sides, so by the time the sides arrived, the steaks had cooled down. We ordered the baked potato (served tableside), and honestly, it was one of the most disappointing items of the night. The skin was extremely dry, the potato itself was small for $18, and the toppings were very minimal. I would definitely skip this. To their credit, they did bring out a complimentary pistachio cake as an apology for the missing pork belly, and it ended up being one of the best things we had. We also ordered the bread pudding, which was dense and good, with cranberries and nuts for a slightly different twist. Overall, the experience was inconsistent. The steak and pistachio cake were excellent, but the service, timing, and several menu items did not meet expectations. Based on other Yelp reviews, it seems like some of these issues are recurring. I'd consider giving it another try because of the steak, but I'd hope to see improvements next time. read more

came here with a group on sunday evening for a birthday celebration. everything was wonderful - the food, service and rustic wooden ambiance. for food, we shared the bread and octopus appetizers and i had the chimichurri risotto. chimichurri risotto was so good, very flavorful, especially when compared to the chicken risotto. the food took a while to get to us so we were offered complimentary bread. before bringing the cake out, the waiter did ask if we needed candles. read more

I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the slow service & receptionist placing us outside when there were empty tables inside. Due to having a child she even said on the phone making reservations "I'll put you out of the way." We were the only ones that were sat outside 8pm this last Saturday not very happy & thought it was rude. When we walked in the receptionist asked where'd we prefer to be seated inside or out and we said inside & then proceeded to tell us there's no tables available when they're we're 3 empty ones the entire time we were there since walking in & leaving around 9:15. Very disappointing w paying $300 tip included to be treated this way is unacceptable and will ask for a manager or the owner Michelle if we decide to come back..bring a cushion if seated on cement picnic style tables not comfortable being 5months pregnant with no bottom or back support. The other tables were too high for my child to be seated next to us in a high chair. My husband and I wanted to check this restaurant out for ourselves after seeing mixed reviews. As I have always liked to make my own opinions after I've actually been there. I've done fine dining all across the world from the USA, Europe and Asia with various price ranges. So, we made a late night reservation. We were promptly and kindly greeted and seated by the host. The ambiance was quiet and inviting. The place was decorated beautifully. Our waitresses (Katie and Kameron) were friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious (see the pictures). There was also a group of women celebrating a special occasion and all we kept hearing is them complimenting the flavors and wanting to know the recipes. It was almost closing time and the chef came out and greeted us and asked us how everything was. We said everything was fantastic and mentioned this was actually our anniversary celebration dinner. He gave us a tour of the restaurant and talked about future goals for the restaurant. He mentioned soon they would be starting brunch on Sundays (we will be back to check that out). At the end or the tour we stopped by a sign and he said look up. As we looked up the sign automatically changed to say Happy anniversary Ivan and Kimberly. It made it a really nice touch. To touch on some reviews I've seen many people complain about the pricing but honestly the pricing is reasonable especially if you're knowledgeable in quality and fine dining. I'm glad there are options like this that are helping elevate the dining experience in a rapidly growing city. I would recommend this place and say go in with a fresh mind and no expectations. First, I'll start off by saying today is Ash Wednesday, so I picked the wrong day to try The Ranch; however, I ordered the cheese-filled gnocchi and it did not disappoint. Started off with pesto bread and that was amazing! My friends ordered the poppers appetizer and meat dishes which looked and smelled amazing as well. I read on different reviews that service was kind of slow and it seemed like it at times; however, food came out perfect temperature. Food portions were excellent. We made reservations for our 19th wedding anniversary. And to say I was excited to try The Ranch was an understatement. The hostess was not very inviting which was a shame. We were seated at a little round pub table and it felt like a section for cocktail sipping before getting seated. But nope it was our table. We asked to be moved and were denied yet we weren't going to let it bother us. The couple that got seated behind us asked to be moved too and they were denied as well. They were so upset that they got up and left. Dakota was our server and she was WONDERFUL! She made great drink recommendations and very helpful and thoughtful to our dietary needs. The grilled octopus was the chef's ! We would definitely come back for that dish. The sourdough with whipped butter was nice. The butter had a subtle sweetness that surprised my palate. Entrees were expensive and highly disappointing. My husband ordered the Ahi and for $65 it was nothing more than a $18 appetizer! The drizzle of chili oil was executed with a heavy hand. It was overwhelming and not balanced at all. I ordered the salmon. It came on a bed of green beans and kale and a side piece of orange squash. The squash was inedible. It wasn't fully cooked. It was very hard and could barely cut it with a knife. The green beans and kale were nicely cooked and seasoned, but the salmon was a huge disaster. The under belly was gooey almost like a coagulated egg white and was outrageously over seasoned. I only ate half of it. It was unpalatable. My husband tried to finish the rest. We would've sent it back, but we were halfway through and felt foolish that we had already forced down the majority of the plate. For dessert, we had the pistachio cake that was nice and light and airy . Was it perfect end to the meal. It wasn't overly sweet or heavy. The cake itself was incredibly moist. The layers of cream were perfectly delicate. All in all, I had wished to give it five stars, and if my experience was solely based on our server, then we would have gladly given the coveted five stars, but unfortunately, there were many components to our experience that fell flat. I will say after we were finished with the appetizer one of the head servers moved us to a better seat! What a game changer. A suggestion for a future tasting menu is to invite those guests who've given you poor scores. Have them rate your menu. Have them provide their feedback. Made reservations for a date night at the Ranch. Loved that you can request which room to be seated in . We picked the bar area, and loved that we could watch the kitchen prepare food. As soon as we stepped foot onto the property we were transported of being on a country ranch. The decor really matched the setting. This was an upscale elite ranch. Our bartender/ server was quit knowledgeable and attentive. Started off with a delicious cocktail , that was so good could have knocked my shoes off. Not sure what it was, but it was sweet, and enjoyable. I ordered the filet tip pasta, omg omg it was delicious. Homemade pasta, steak, delicious sauce, kudos to the chef on this. My husband ordered a steak that was both tender and juicy. He ordered a side of potatoes , that were delicious as well. All the meats and sides are a la carte. We ended our dinner with a slice of pistachio cake; it was so light and airy. Tasted like a dessert from heaven! They were very accommodating to our party of five that did not have a reservation. As a service industry worker, I understand that we got lucky when we were moved from a beautiful patio table to an inside table. So I will definitely recommend making a reservation. All of the appetizers and cocktails that we tried were excellent! Each of our meals were unique and we enjoyed sharing the generous portions. Our experience concluded with the crème brûlée and the three layer pistachio cake. Yum!! Such a perfect cherry on top! We will definitely be back to try different items on the menu. This review is possibly going to be somewhat all over the place, and that's ok. The Ranch has been teasing about opening soon for probably about a year now, but it seems like several. I understand having to deal with permit issues and not wanting to open until it's *just right* so I was elated when they announced a soft opening was happening. Reservations filled up fast, so we were a couple weeks out from the launch. Date night! The remodel is absolutely stunning. It is beautiful inside and out. Bathrooms were absolutely spotless and the only thing I have to recommend is SEAT COVERS. Please get them. We were seated for our reservation immediately and our server (I don't think we ever got his name) was fantastic. (Slightly older gentleman with buzz cut and buzzed beard to match.) he took our order and made recommendations. We started with the pork belly, and I ordered the bone in ribeye (medium rare) with bone marrow butter and my husband ordered the bone in New York strip, medium well. They don't have garnish/side so if you want anything to go with your protein, you need to order from the tapas menu. We ordered the pommes purée. Which I feel like it was instant mashed potatoes. Super watery . My husband was mostly pleased with his NY strip. It came out medium rare instead of medium well. My ribeye came out rare. And not just rare, it was completely blue. It was so cold the bone marrow butter wasn't even melting and I waited like 20 minutes to send it back. And I NEVER send food back. I've worked in food service all my life and I know better. But, I did that night. And I know they handed my steak over to chef Mike. The unrendred fat became rubber and hard and it was scalding on the edges and hot pink in the middle when they brought it back. I am reall a REALLY rooting for this place to work out their kinks. But at this point I have to say I liked the food better when it was "glicks, and butcher and baker" I cannot wait to try it again and give it more stars. read more

I truly want The Ranch to thrive, but I can only give it three stars for now.The service was outstanding, definitely deserving of five stars; the manager even came to check on us, which was a nice touch. Their version of a Caprese salad was excellent, and my filet was cooked to perfection. However, my significant other's steak was a different story. We both waited over 65 minutes for our meals and unfortunately, both steaks came out medium rare, despite him ordering medium well. It took us bringing this to their attention before he received a properly cooked steak, which was a bit disappointing. I genuinely hope this steakhouse finds its footing because it has great potential. Time is of the essence, though, and I hope they can improve on these issues moving forward. read more

So disappointed in our dinner at The Ranch tonight. It's my birthday so I chose the spot. Started with a cocktail that was fine. Next we ordered the Cesar salad which was also just fine. Needed more dressing. We ordered the roasted veggie plate and roasted potatoes which we thought would be served with our dinner but they were served first so nothing to eat with the steak. Our dinner took forever to get. My husband's New York was awful. Full of fat and gristle. ($65) I ordered the risotto with lobster and shrimp ($60). The shrimp were fine but the tiny pieces of lobster were so over cooked it was hard to chew. My son had the wagyu and it was overcooked and tiny. We were seated next to 3 very loud ladies and the acoustics made it difficult to hear. We definitely will never go back. Oh and I forgot to mention our bill was $327.00. read more

I try and make my own decisions on a new location. The Yelp reviews were not the best and sadly I have to agree with some of the prior comments. The ambiance was great. New interior with a nice ranch vibe. Service was good on the onset but tapered off after an about 15 minutes. The order was a porter house steak, a version of filet minion tips and two sides (tapas). Lots of moving around by servers but not many plates making it out of the kitchen. 45 minutes later the steaks arrive just above room temperature. The. Potato side was nice and hot. I believe they waited on the potato side and let the steaks and roasted veggies sit. Disappointing to say the least. Another more senior server tried to make it right by offering to re-fire the steaks but we declined. The wait and lukewarm warm steak killed the vibe. The place was OK with a healthy sized check. I hope they get things together soon. We will give them a try in the spring. read more

We have been to a lot of steakhouses in the past. My husband loves a good steak. The service was good. The ambiance was great. The food was ok. My husband and daughter liked their steaks and my other daughter liked her stuffed gnocchi. I got the salmon and I wasn't really a fan. It was undercooked. Be prepared to spend here. The portions are very small for all of the sides. We spent 400 for four people. We drove down to try this restaurant specifically. I would rather eat somewhere else for the price. We won't go back but it was a nice to try something new. The food wasn't worth the drive and the price to me. read more

My fiancé took me here for my birthday dinner and all I can say was that it was great. The service was fantastic and our waiter Miguel was awesome. Food came out in a timely manner and we didn't feel rushed. For starters I had the rodeo queen which is now my ultimate favorite and my fiancé had the smoked old fashioned. For our appetizer we had the mozzarella prosciutto croquettes which was so good! For our main entree we had medium rare bone in New York steaks which were well seasoned sadly we forgot to order the steak enhancements but nevertheless the steaks were still delicious. For our sides we chose the smoked bacon Mac & cheese which was very good and the most creamy mashed potatoes I've very had. Sadly I was a bit disappointed with the broccolini the flavor was there loved the spicy sauce that was with it but I feel that it was blanched too quickly then sautéed the texture was really hard to chew my mouth felt like it had a workout. Then finally dessert! We had the pistachio layered cake and the tiramisu and both were to died for! The pistachio cake was so good I'm definitely going to daydream about it for a while! This is a special restaurant. Having read some of the mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was looking for a good steak and a nice wine list. At The Ranch, I wasn't disappointed. I sat at the bar, which was finished this evening for its first opening. I could smell the scent of fresh varnish as I sat alone at a long marble bar attended by two enthusiastic employees, Cameron, my server, and Katie, my bartender. I ordered the 10 oz. steak and the brussels sprout side, which were both excellent. I also enjoyed a glass of Sandhi Chardonnay and Banshee Pinot Noir. I appreciated the restaurant's by-the-glass options that are different from what I find listed at other similar establishments. The restaurant was packed and very lively. The owner, James, came out to say hello and share his story about the business, which I learned opened within the last 9 months. They roast their own coffee beans for a variety of after dinner selections. Truly, an impressive effort by a local restaurant to offer a unique and elevated dining experience. I was a little worried because I saw the Yelp reviews.... went anyway & it was great. Me and my husband enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere is nice. You can dress up or dress down and feel comfortable either way. There is a "bar" area where you can see them cook or a "cold box" area that is normal restaurant seating. The Teres major 10 oz. and Filet mignon tips pasta were both good. The chile relleno was excellent. ALL the servers were very kind. Our server Micheal was excellent. He had perfect timing. As far as resturants go this one is by far one of the better ones in Visalia. I dont see why they had so many bad reviews. The service although not top notch was decent. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times. We could see her going back into the kitchen to see if our food was ready yet and the food itself was very good. The food was overall good. The service on the other hand wasn't the greatest. It took our server 5-10 minutes to come to our table when we were first seated. We ordered bread and thought it was just taking a while which was fine but once we saw the table next to us get their bread we knew it wasn't coming. Our plates came out first and we had to wait for our sides. After we finished eating it took our waitress 10-15 minutes to come to our table. We had asked for a box and the check she was quick to bring the check to the table but we never got our box. The table next to us asked their waitress and she instantly got it for them. We had to get up and go ask someone for a box because we sat waiting for 15 minutes. We watched our waitress serve a table that was sat instantly and provided their drinks, bread, and an appetizer within the first 10 minutes of being seated. read more
