First visit for lunch for me & my Mom. Very attractive inside and a great water view. Prices were reasonable, but the service was very slow. Several times I had the urge to get up and ask for help. Mom said her Reuben sandwich and fries were good. I had half a wedge salad that was plenty large enough, lots of chopped bacon & tomatoes, and a whole sliced hard boiled egg. I would order again. My big disappointment was the menu showed salad add-on selections. Steak was listed for $8. I ordered mine medium rare. I was very surprised upon delivery that the "steak" was finely chopped, very done, and dry. When I complained to the waitress she said she forgot to tell me it was chopped. The menu should have said chopped! I don't think anybody would order it. Due to the view and outdoor seating, I will give it another try this summer. read more

Like louder than the Hard Rock Cafe. We went the day of the polar plunge (or something) and it was so loud I could barely hear the people at our table. Never seen someone work so hard to achieve so little. Place looked great from the decor and location. I called in for a reservation. The hostess stated during the summer it's first come first serve, but the wait is not normally more than 10-15 minutes. When we arrived, we were told it was a 30 minute wait. We sat at the indoor bar and had a few drinks (the bartender Katie was very kind and pleasant). 40 minutes passed, so we asked the hostess about our table. She said it would be about a 20 minute wait. That would make it an hour. She said she would talk to the manager about getting us seated. Mind you, about half of the tables both inside and out were empty. After reading the other reviews about poor wait time and overhearing a waitress state the kitchen was backed up, we knew we wouldn't be getting dinner anytime soon. From what I hear, during the week it's not so bad, but the weekends they aren't efficient on getting guests seated and served. Side note - for being a "sports bar" not a SINGLE tv was turned on, much less playing the Guardians home game. read more

First of all, the service was great. Our server has clearly had to make excuses for the kitchen staff before- because she was able to do it with a smile on her face and a joke here and there. I HATE that for her. She did a good job of keeping our drinks filled and checking on us while we waited for what seemed like forever for very average food. We had a party of 7, including one child- so we expected to wait a while, but GEEZ OW. The deck was close to full, but the inside was not even close. Everyone had basically the same thing to say about their meals. "It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again". I have no idea what the issue was with the food taking forever, but it seemed like everyone at the restaurant was experiencing the same thing. I was hesitant to go there after a few poor reviews, but with a view and location like that you have to give it a try. I really, sincerely hope this place gets it's act together. What a waste of a wonderful spot if not. Oh, and I don't know what an "Art's Salad" is but apparently it's a historical staple recreated here. My wife and I had heard of this newer restaurant, so we thought we would give it a try. Saturday night, around 7pm. Although there was a constant stream of people, it looked like the place was about 2/3 full. Our adventure started at the front desk, manned by three to four people. When we walked in, we asked how long for a table outside, and were told just a few minutes. We then sat down in the waiting area. After a few minutes, we realized that they had not taken our name, while taking others. We then asked to have our name placed on the list, reminding them of their earlier commitment. We were finally seated after about a half an hour. We waited at the table for another half an hour before finally requesting to see a waitress. Watching the servers spinning like tops, it struck me that with the exception of one person, it appeared as though they had no training at all. Then one of the wait staff dumped a tray of water on another customer, and ran off. A few minutes later she came back with a towel - not for the customer, but for the floor! The service was so bad customers were going to the bar to get their own drinks. When we did get service, we immediately ordered a drink and dinner - not wanting to chance never seeing anyone again. We also asked for water (dangerous I know). A long while passed before our drinks showed up, and my wife had to make two trips back to the bar to get her Manhattan passable. Never did get water. Finally the food showed up "Fall off the bone" ribs and fish and chips. We had to ask for silverware. We had ordered additional tarter sauce - never saw it. My ribs were very undercooked, and the fish was so overcooked that it was stringy. That's when we asked for a manager. A woman came out that was so frazzled that I almost felt sorry for her. We told her about our food and said we would pay for our drinks and were leaving. She did comp the drinks. All told, we were there about an hour and a half. Hopefully they will someday get their act together, the building is beautiful. read more

FINALLY. A restaurant in Portage Lakes that gets it. We went for the first time with another friend (3 at the table) to check out the menu and bar. First impression when we arrived @ 5:30 was very nice. Staff was attentive and friendly. We sat right away. And they were somewhat busy too. Took a little while for our waiter to show up. But once he did he was on top of our table with great service. Cocktails, beer and wine were all good. Being a wine guy and restaurant cellar master for 40 years, I had to look over the list. And it's respectable. Especially for PLX. Beer list was good for our dinning partner. (She's very picky about beer selections at restaurants.) We first ordered fried pickles, Lamb lollipops and the seared Ahi tuna (Fantastic). All items were great. Well prepared and came hot to the table. We ordered a second round of the lamb and I ordered their filet. It was cooked perfectly. Only complaint was that the risotto was cold. My wife ordered the beet salad. She said is wasn't very good. Only down side to food so far. Just before we received our 2nd order, the manager asked us if we wouldn't mind moving to another table because they had a large party coming in. She offered a round of drinks or another app. We chose drinks. And didn't mind accommodating the manager. Only other complaint we all had was the noise level. When the tables are full, it's loud. Mainly due to the height of the ceiling and being all metal. They might consider some acoustic clouds covered in black hanging from the ceiling to reduce noise. We'll be back for sure. I have not been to the Ramp for a few months, but I will say I will not be going back anytime soon. The food was not very good, nor was the service. My husband had Perch, which looked like 3 chicken fingers from McDonalds, and the fries....well why even bother serving fries, there must be a shortage of potatoes. Our friend ordered a cheese burger, but they forgot the cheese and the waitress was so happy to not bother getting it corrected. I do think the burger came from McDonald's and the bun......hmmm. I am not sure what happened to this restaurant. It use to be yummy and the help use to care about your dining experience. For the price and quality of food, choose another place. read more

I'm going to start off by saying I work in the industry so I'm generally very understanding when it comes to service. I get that restaurants are more often than not understaffed and undertrained while being overworked and underpaid. However... If I could give this place negative stars I would. I kept hearing about it so I thought I'd finally check it out. My birthday is Friday and since I have to work that day we decided to go for dinner tonight to celebrate. I really wish I would have picked literally anywhere else. After waiting for a solid 10-15 minutes to even be greeted by a server it took several minutes for our sodas to come out. We placed appetizer and entree orders at the same time. 25 minutes later we received our appetizer (fried pickles) which were lukewarm and semi soggy. However the server did not return to our table for us to mention it. The manager also did not come to our table (although she went to both tables on either side of us) Finally our salads come out. The balsamic dressing is okay- a little sweet for my taste but okay. They offered bread which we gladly accepted. The bread is a joke. Thick cut white bread- not toasted, not even warm. With prepackaged pads of butter... if you're going to serve crappy bread at least have a good butter to go with it. Our entrees finally came out (at this point it's been over an hour since we arrived). I had to ask twice for a refill. The entrees were mediocre at best. I got the grilled chicken with vegetables and added a side of wild mushroom risotto... btw Cremini and portabellos are not wild mushrooms... the food was bland. Chicken was overly charred from the grill- like borderline burnt. Everything was extremely under seasoned. My husband got the shrimp Alfredo. The shrimp was rubbery and the tails were left on- which what's the point of that in pasta? The Alfredo tasted like grocery store pre-jarred stuff- again everything was extremely bland. When we asked for the check it was given promptly. We immediately gave the card and then waited for 15 minutes for it to be returned. The prices here are middle of the road but the quality is SEVERELY lacking. If you're going to charge $18 for grilled chicken and risotto, it needs to be good. If you're going to have a small menu- every item needs to be good- not mediocre. The service leaves much to be desired. They weren't that busy when we arrived. A couple larger tables and a few people on the patio but nothing crazy. Not enough to excuse our server disappearing for 20-30 mins at a time. And the manager not making rounds in inexcusable. I wanted to like this place, and I am so disappointed I wasted my money here. 10/10 would not recommend or return. read more

I travel for a living and the food was really good the sour sauerkraut balls were a treat for me never had them before being from the Chicagoland area. The wine list is great and has plenty of reds, whites and blends to choose from. The Rubin sandwich was very good and the soups are home made. I was there about a month ago and watched the manager (without a mask on) lick her finger, put a menu down, lick her finger...put another menu down...6 times. It was disgusting. This would have disgusted me before COVID, but it is very irresponsible and selfish for her to do this. The whole time she was walking around without a mask. I brought it up to her as I was leaving, and asked if she was the owner. She said "no" but the owner was standing right there. I explained to the owner what I had witnessed, and got absolutely no response from her. If this is what I saw right in front of me, I can't imagine what goes on behind the scenes. Unfortunately, we were unimpressed with both the service and food. While our server was friendly, we ended up doing a lot of waiting, and this stood out more than the great view of the lake and delicious French fries. After being seated upon arrival, we waited at least five minutes before being greeted. After our drinks were dropped off, we were ready to order but our server said she'd be back momentarily. It took awhile, but she did come back to take our order. Our food took a reasonable amount of time to come out, but after dropping it off, we didn't see our server for another 10 minutes, during which we had no condiments for our food. We got a burger and fried chicken sandwich, both which were okay. We did love their fries, though, which were thick and well seasoned. After deppping off the check, our server disappeared once more for a longer than average time. We came in on a Tuesday evening at 6ish. The place was only about half-full, so I'm not sure what all the waiting was about. I want to support local businesses but will stick to the other spots around the lake in the future. read more

My family & I have been coming to the Ramp since it has opened, and while the service has always been on the slow side, we have always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, after our experience today, we won't be coming back. We pulled the boat up to the dock and called to order. They promptly answered and placed us on hold.... for 6 minutes. We finally gave up and went inside to order at the bar. We ordered and were told to come back in 20 minutes and the food would be ready. 20 minutes later, we were told they hadn't started the order because they didn't have scallops for one of the orders. Instead of coming outside to let us know, they just waited for us to come back to pick up the food to let us know. When asked why they didn't call to let us know, they said with quite an attitude that the phones were down. Except they weren't because someone answered when we called. The owner was non-apologetic, as was the manager. They were completely rude and said "what do you want from us we are short staffed." That's not our fault. So after an hour, we finally get the food. Three of the four orders are now cold. Get back down to the boat to eat and notice missing items - of course. After going back up to retrieve the missing items from the order, still not one apology. The manner in which they handled this issue was absolutely disappointing. The manager and owner were rude and snarky and acted as though we were at fault. It's disappointing as this was one of our favorite places in PLX, but with it such poor customer service skills, I can't support a business like that. A simple apology and owning your mistake goes a long way. Not at the Ramp. Side note: while this was happening, another customer was explaining to the owner that he was concerned because he was very low on gas on his boat. He asked the owner (who also owns the marina, mind you) if he could direct him to the nearest gas station. The owner's response: I don't know. Idk what to tell you." He owns a marina. Excellent beyond compare. This was our first experience dining at this restaurant and every aspect of it was perfect. The environment, scenery, food, and most importantly the service was phenomenal. Our server, Melody, went above and beyond to deliver everything we asked for and then some. She went the extra mile and it was definitely noticed. I went to pick up a GrubHub order at The Ramp in Akron. I was supposed to pay with my GrubHub credit card they give drivers, well for whatever reason the card was declined. Keep in mind the money is paid by the customer ordering goes to GrubHub and goes to my card. So the managers hold my card hostage while I call the GrubHub line to see what's going on. I'm told by GrubHub the order will be canceled, ok fine so I tell the managers and they throw a huge fit. I'm told "someone has to be held responsible" for the order not working. One of the managers comes out throws a hissy fit, folds up my card (clearly trying to break it) throws it at me and threatens to call the police for what I have no idea. Grow up, comp the food and give it to your employees. read more

I give the ramp 3 stars because of the scenery and the friendly bartender. My husband and I arrived right around 5 on a Saturday evening. There were several tables open in the dining room and a lot of seats at the bar. As we waited on a table outside we sat at the bar. The female bartender was so sweet and attentive. I wish we would have stayed at the bar to eat. We were then taken to our table outside. It took several minutes for our server to greet us. When she came I asked for a glass of wine and 10 minutes later it finally came To the table. We ordered two appetizers, one of which seemed to be a very nice cheese plate with fruit. When it arrived I was appalled. For a $20 appetizer I expected more than random cheese cubes and grapes with 3 pieces of pepperoni. The smoked salmon on the plate was decent, which is probably why it was $20 but the display was poor; I could have put together a better display! Our meal came out and when it arrived one of our main dishes were missing and a salad never arrived. Needles to say we will not be back. We were so excited to try out the restaurant and were so disappointed that we ate here as we celebrated an anniversary. read more

When we arrived we had to wait for a table on the patio. No problem. When a table was ready the hostess called my daughter on her phone to let us know our table was ready. As we approached the hostess desk, the hostess turned away from us with menus in her hand. No greeting, no eye contact, no words. After we were seated, we sat for 15-20 minutes and no one came to our table. In the meantime, 2 parties that were seated after us had already been waited on. The owner was sweeping the patio floor at the time, so my daughter went over to him to him to address this. Rather than saying he was sorry for the delay, or offering to check on it, he just shrugged and said those people were in a different zone, and went back to sweeping. We sat for a few more minutes, still no one came to the table, and we decided we really didn't want to spend any money there so we left. First time I've ever walked out of a restaurant. read more

I live on Portage Lakes and we frequent all of the local establishments This is the second time I we went to The Ramp this week. I Took a group of the girls from my card club there by boat on Monday nights which I had made reservations for. We got there at 8:15 PM and everybody else pretty much have been served. It took 50 minutes for our food to arrive and it was either cold or undercooked. A few girls went to the restroom while we were waiting for our food and the kitchen help with mopping the floors instead of cooking our food. The pizza we ordered was cold and the chicken sandwich was plain and Hardly cooked and cold. The fish dinners which cost $18.99 did not have any sauces on it that were described in the menu. We finally as a group decided to complain about our food and the general manager of the evening gave only the people with the cold dinners a dollar off their bill even though we all waited 50minutes for our food. I called the next day and talk to the general manager and she told me that she would talk to her staff about their poor quality of food we received. My husband and I decided to go back today Sunday, August 25 to try the restaurant again at 7:10 pm. Even though the restaurant was not busy we were told that we had to wait 10 minutes in order to be seated because the kitchen was backed up. After they seated us we waited for 12 minutes and no one even acknowledged us so we decided to leave. I stopped at the front desk and asked to speak to another manager and expressed my concerns with the restaurant and the poor service we got the previous Monday night. So I want to warn anybody that goes there how are last two experiences have gone. read more

My family and i came here for dinner and were completely unsatisfied leaving. We waited over 2 and a half hours for just our food to come out. The filets ordered were completely overdone, dry and hard. My salmon was maybe 4oz it came out dry without any glaze Or topping like the menu suggested, my sides came out after the salmon. We were not offered replacement entrees or for the steak to at least be cooked medium rare like we asked. A manager came out and talked to us and said she would see what could be done after she talked to the owner. Our full bill was presented to us and the manager informed us the owner would not talk to us and if we left without paying the cops would be called. Even though we never indicated we wouldn't pay.
