Absolutely overpriced and overrated. I ordered their version of Casio e Pepe. It had died pork, perhaps Guanciale. It tasted rancid and the pasta was exceptionally dry. I sent it back My wife ordered the Filet Oscar. The brown gravy was reminiscent of lunch in middle school where Salisbury steak with brown gravy was served. The service was terrific and the manager came over to see if there was anything else on the menu I'd like. Seriously overpriced for the quality. I'd strongly recommend trying somewhere else. This was maybe the third time I've eaten at the Rails, and none of them have been "Fine Dining" experiences (contrary to what they might label themselves as on Google). The Rails is Fine Dining if you've never been past the Curry County line. I ordered the "Fettuccine Michaelangelo with Ribeye Bolognese;" my wife ordered the Blackened Salmon. I put my dish in quotes because, while the name might inspire a sense of grandeur, what the "Fettucine Michaelangelo" actually constitutes is about 3/4 of a pound of Barilla pasta (prepared fresh in-house, out of the box) and maybe 2 ounces of regular ground beef with a few decorative varnishes. Really, it was just beef stroganoff, and not even very good beef stroganoff (certainly not $30). I've had better in the DFAC at Camp Lemonnier. My wife's salmon was fine, nothing to write home about. The doctored up mashed potatoes were a little bland and definitely didn't taste prepared in-house. To sum up the totality of my experiences of the food there...I don't think they make 80% of their menu in-house, which is pretty damning for a restaurant that has the entirety of Clovis convinced its an upscale experience. Most of their menu tastes like it came on a truck from a shipping facility in Albuquerque that isn't even on par with what Darden restaurants order in bulk. That being said, the food isn't completely terrible and inedible. It's just absolutely not worth what they're charging for it, and it's either dishonest or ignorant to pretend it's fancier than it actually is. It's a 3 star hotel restaurant wearing a 4.5 star veneer. It's lipstick on a pig. It's the Key and Peele skit where Jordan Peele wears a tuxedo to enjoy the hotel's Continental Breakfast, and treats it like a special occasion. Food aside, the service is pretty average to below average. Other reviews highlight the service, so maybe my experiences have been one-offs, but given the trend of restaurant service in Clovis, in general, I'm reticent to discount them. Our waitress was nice enough, but she was unable to answer even basic questions (like which salad dressing she recommended). She did let us know the dressings aren't made in-house (another tell). I've worked as a prep cook in a local restaurant that branded itself on par with Chilis and Applebees, and I had to make their (wider selection of) dressings from actual ingredients every day. Most of the servers *might* be qualified to be front of house at a Cracker Barrel in any other city not isolated from the rest of civilization by 100 miles, but "upscale" waitstaff they are not. So is the story of most restaurants here. It is what it is. Overall, pretty mid experience. The atmosphere and concept are nice, but they're nothing more than a nice coat of paint that only serves to convince those who have never actually been to an upscale restaurant. Expect to spend a minimum of $100-$150 for boxed pasta, Choice steak, and Sysco™ Thousand Island from a frozen plastic bag. Save that money for gas and go somewhere nicer in Lubbock. They have trains there, too. read more

We went in for dinner. The place is really cool on the inside unfortunately we were seated outside. Flies and mosquitos were ever present. Our waitress didn't seem to care about waiting on us. She only came by a few times to check on us. The food was sub par. The prices were outrageous. A bowl of fettuccine Alfredo with a touch of red sauce and some hard as a rock rib eye meatballs was $59. The wife tried to eat the meatball but it was too hard to cut. I had the fettuccine Alfredo and honestly Olive Garden's was better than this. It arrived lukewarm with very little sauce. No salad only some bread and butter. We had 4 adults and 3 children and were charged the large party gratuity of 20%. They had a guy playing guitar. He was good but a little loud. Will we go back? No way!! read more

We started our meal with bread and butter. We had calamari for an appetizer with a glass Prosecco and a New Mexico Sunrise. Then, we moved on to our entrees, red snapper with grilled prawns and the Spicy Pork Vindaloo served with butter mash and rice. It all tasted awesome!!! The service was fast and everyone was attentive. Our server was pleasant and polite. The ambiance is a cool vibe! You can eat and enjoy the trains going by at the same time. Nicest dining in Clovis. Upscale and unique with a small but well rounded menus and the coolest dining space in Clovis! Set inside the historic railway station there are displays throughout the restaurant of historic and model railway items and a friendly wax conductor who welcomes you as you walk up. The food is delicious although expect to pay for the experience $$$$. Most attentive wait staff I've seen in Clovis and very professional service. I wish I could give them extra stars. What a fabulous hidden gem in Clovis, NM. This place is completely unexpected. It's a beautiful historic building right on the railroad tracks, with a lovely covered patio. The wine list is the equivalent of what you would find in any hip restaurant in California. The dishes are tasty, especially the chile seared beef tenderloin. I've been told to try the brunch and curry dishes, but haven't had a chance quite yet. The service is fantastic, everyone is so friendly and attentive. I travel for work A LOT, and I wish every town I visited had The Rails. My family and I traveled from CA to NM for my graduation and I am so happy I found The Rails for our dinner. We were welcomed by many members making sure we've been helped. Service was exceptional. The Rails is definitely the nicest restaurant in the Clovis area. The cocktails were good. The entrees were the best you'll find within 100 miles. Highly recommended if you are looking for a good steak dinner. The green chili burger was ok and the side salad was basic. The flatbread appetizer was also ok. I would recommend the risotto balls for an appetizer instead. We split two dessert between our group because they all sounds so delicious. They did not disappoint. Had dinner there a couple of nights ago. The food was excellent, but had a little glitch in the meal--the entrees came out while we were eating the salads. I mentioned it to the server and she shrugged it off. "The kitchen is busy." A manager-type came by later and asked how the meal was. I told him we were still working on the salads when the steaks came out. No real apology, just a sort of "these things happen" and a shoulder shrug. I was expecting something a little more....sincere...plus often with something like that they'd offer a free drink or a dessert or something. They're new, but could learn a few things about the service aspect. The steaks, sides and salads were great though---so no complaints there. read more

I've been whining all day because I didn't think there was anywhere nice/ fancy to go for dinner for my anniversary tonight- I finally got on yelp to browse our options and found The Rails!! They just opened a month ago and it was the perrrrrrfect date night spot!! It can be fancier/pricier if you're looking for that, but they had plenty of less expensive items as well!! It's the cutest place, great service, and the food and drinks were delicious!!! The bar and indoor eating was so cute! Steaks were great and so were the risotto balls and sides. Stopped here on my way through town and it was definitely 5+ stars! I will drive the 2 hours from my home just to eat here at least twice a month. The Rails was amazing. Easily the best dining choice in Clovis. We went for a date night and had the risotto balls (must get), superchief yardbird, and my wife got the blackened salmon. She said it was the best salmon she's ever had. Perfectly seasoned, flaky, and moist. Which is a lot for her to say considering we're in Clovis. Decent bar selection. Great environment. Staff was great. We are outdoors and they had these little fly swatter fans at the tables that repel all the crazy Clovis mosquitos. What a feat. Wow Tate is a one of kind dude. He was very nervous serving us at first but once he got out of his shell he was firing off the jokes! The man clearly has 4 kids so he's quite a stress ball but he really tapped in after seeing how much we were drinking. We snubbed him with our tip but beggars can't be choosers! New establishment opened a few days ago (per waitress) Thought we would stop in for dinner and see what they had. Atmosphere was nice. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice cool breeze as we listened to the trains roar by behind the building. I got the 12oz. Ribeye medium with a side of Asparagus and the Truffle Mushroom Sauce with a Spicy Margarita. My hubby got the Bacon Burger with a side Salad and a 12oz beer to wash it down with. Drinks took awhile to be brought to us and my margarita was extremely spicy. I could have sworn my ears were shooting out smoke. (A lot of Green-chili liquor) After a bit of a wait on the food the hubby finds that the burger had almost a head of lettuce in it so it's like he got 2 salads for the price of one. He said the patty was good but very tough however his patty was nowhere near as tough as my steak. (Thankful I didn't lose any teeth trying to eat it). The flavor was great and so was the mushroom truffles. Asparagus was also a bit overcooked but again had a good flavor. (Think we had meat from an old cow) Lol Needless to say my jaw now hurts due to all that chewing but we were not done yet...we decided to have some dessert. I had the key lime cream cheese pie and he ordered the espresso crème brûlée. The pie was plain...no cream on top but still good (when you get past the refrigerator taste). The espresso crème brûlée was very delicious but no espresso taste just a delicious plain crème brûlée. All in all...we tried it but will not go back. Overpriced for the quality of food served. You should really update your times on Google maps. If your not a regular and visiting this small town you wouldn't know that this places kitchen closes at 9. Therefore this establishment needs to recognize that and change it so people like myself don't waste the time or energy to go there. Then the person handling phone calls is very unprofessional and doesn't know how to handle situations, so they hang up on you politely!
