    Us happy about the service

We are traveling to Santa Fe and went through an area with a lot of construction. We got a nail in the tire and pulled in to see if we could get the tire aired up real quick. They were able to patch the tire and get us back on the road in 10 minutes. Thanks so much for helping us out!

We were hungry, driving Hwy 60/85 in NM and so tired of chain restaurants. Though unprepossessing from outside, there was a line at the inside order window. The daily special was fried or GRILLED chicken tacos for around $8. They were great, as was the green chile dish I ordered. A highway gem and open early 6AM. and late, 10PM!

The atmosphere, food, and service was great! You can watch the train go by as you eat. Thank you for the hospitality, Melrose!

Always stop by for lunch on our way to Santa Fe from Fort Worth, TX. Food is delicious and consistent, so is service. If you are traveling through the area its a definite stop. Recommend Green Chile Cheeseburger and fries.

One of my favorite things about driving out to Clovis is stopping at random restaurants along the way. Today, we decided to visit the Restaurant attached to the gas station in Melrose. Upon entering, we were a tiny bit confused as to where we should go. To the left was a door that went to a tire shop, in front was a door to an office, and the the right, was the restaurant. When we got in, we saw the restaurant was called Melrose Tire! Nice name. They had a list of daily specials and menus up near the order station. The people were ultra friendly, even after my card declined because we were traveling. I gave another card and we went to sit. I ordered the Chicken Basket with Fries and Texas Toast. The chicken was crispy and tender and the fries were crunchy. The gravy was creamy and fresh. So delicious! My husband got the bacon cheeseburger. The patty was massive! It looked a little squished together, but it looked yummy all together! He said it was a little bland and he wished it had a bit more seasonings. Over all- I think we would totally come back to try some more of their food!!

Delicious, clean and even prepared a vegan meal for us per request :) and after all we are in Melrose ;)) don't let the outside fool you, it is nice and cozy with friendly staff and food made to order.

After a long day driving across TX, the last thing we wanted to do when we stopped in Clovis for…read morethe night was to order takeout. We YELPed restaurants, and one of our other favorites in town was closed, so we took a chance on the Cotton Patch Cafe. They were open for dine-in, and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful. Service was excellent. Our server, Hope, did a great job meeting all our needs -- including a large print menu (during COVID, when everything has to be wiped down again...), and she was as accommodating and pleasant as can be. The food was off the page. We both ordered burgers, one Nachadoches, and one traditional with cheese. We got sides of fries and onion rings. Normally, we don't eat the buns, but these were magnificent, not your run-of-the-mill hamburger buns! The burgers were juicy and tender, and the toppings as fresh and tasty as could be. The onion rings were HUGE, and perfectly breaded and fried, and there was a slight sweetness to them that was delightful. The french fries were nicely cut, but could have used a bit more time in the fryer to get just a little crispier. Not everything can be perfect, right? Next time we come through Clovis, we'll be back. And to the owners, thanks for that message of hope on the windows: Faith Over Fear!

Another family that came in about 20 minutes after us got their food at the same time (they had 7 in their party). The quality has been significantly decreasing each time we come. Highly recommend you go somewhere else. One last thing. We were there for an hour and never once were able to get a drink refill.

Cute little gift…read moreshop items adorn the walls and around the cash wrap we were sitting in the corner of the restaurant and had a nice view out of the window. We were immediately asked for our drink order now they do serve beer here and it's my understanding the margaritas are made with wine. We just had water as we had had a long day traveling and just needed to rehydrate. I included some pictures of the food that we ordered, but I wanted to note that the chips and salsa was very good. The chips were made of corn and salted lightly and served warm. The salsa was handmade and on the spicy side I had a bowl of Caldo de Res ( beef soup with vegetables. Definitely comfort food and I highly recommend) and a homemade pork green chili tamale on the side. The tamale was flavored outstanding, but was a little lacking on the meat and slightly on the dry side, but I would definitely order it again because it was authentic and the flavor was great. The other person in my party had a quesadilla stuffed with chicken. I didn't have a photo of that, but it was the fattest quesadilla I've ever seen they raved about it. The restaurant was relatively full. I noticed in the parking lot that most of the license plates were from out of state so since this restaurant is in Santa Rosa, New Mexico located off the interstate of I 40 many of these patrons were traveling we're passing through. A lot of individual people eating alone as well at the bar. The service was fantastic. There was two young ladies working together in tandem definitely family members. Both had great big smiles on their faces. I did comment to both of them not to work too hard and both responded "oh we have been since the day they we were born" as they chuckled, commenting something along that line with warm smiles and a chuckle. This particular restaurant gets high marks for me as I compare it to the one down the end of the street also on this historic route 66 that I reviewed not just four or five weeks ago at three stars. I would highly recommend this place over the competitor. Not only for flavor of food but Service, atmosphere and pricing. I travel through here quite often and I will definitely make a point to come back and try several different menu items. I will be sure to ask the owners what they recommend and report back and review that for all that maybe are following in case you happen to come through here to this family owned an operated gem.

Now the other alternative was Texas Roadhouse. Don't get me wrong, I'm regionally from where Texas Roadhouse was founded and it's huge, especially where I'm from. But part of my philosophy when traveling is to try someplace new, traditionally NOT a chain. So I gave this a shot. Cattle Baron reminds me of those old school steakhouses in the 90s that served steaks and an AYCE salad bar. Except it's much nicer ambiance-wise with a broader menu. I ordered the largest ribeye steak they had with a loaded baked potato, unlimited salad bar, a Coca-Cola, and a brownie for dessert. The total for ALL that ended up being $48.35. That's really cheap considering I had to be rolled out on a stretcher (joking). The most expensive item was the steak, in the $30-range but an unlimited salad bar for $4.95 and dessert for $6.95 can't be beat. The salad bar had everything you'd want in a salad bar with fresh veggies and toppings along with two soups, premade salads, and a sampling of sweet items like jello and fruit. I got 2 plates from the bar and two small bowls of soup. The steak and potato soup was good but the chicken soup was a bit salty for my taste. My steak and loaded potato was good and hit the spot. The potato was kind of dry, assuming it was a potato, already cooked hours ago and they just pulled it out to serve to me. After smothering it in butter and sour cream, the dryness disappeared. The steak was cooked medium rare, so no issues there but there was very little seasoning. I added salt and pepper to it, which made it a lot better. I wish it had a little bit more searing/char to it. I ended the meal with a brownie and ice cream, with caramel drizzle. The brownie was fairly large and warm, with a nice scoop of ice cream and ample ribbons of caramel sauce. It was really delicious and not too overly sweet! It definitely put me over the food coma edge. Service was good, but slow. My waitress explained to me that it was slow because a table of 39 people showed up, so she apologized. It didn't bother me though because I was so tired from working nearly 12 hours that day. I'm glad I supported local and my meal was definitely worth the price.
