This was a diamond in the rough find. I am talking about the restaurant, Russell's Route 66 Cafe. I don't know what some of these reviews are talking about because the food there was fabulous! Looked like new menus with new menu items. I got a very good fish dinner, not at all what I expected from a truck stop restaurant. My only complaint would be the prices. My fish dinner was somewhere in the neighborhood of $18 for the meal, which I thought was a bit high. Annabel was our server and she was excellent at her job, very friendly and attentive. If we were in the area again, I would eat here in a heartbeat! read more

The atmosphere was tired and bland. This could be a quintessential truckstop along route 66 right off of Highway 40 but it's missing all the charm. The food was fine, I wasn't expecting much. The flies were everywhere, they landed on your food, hands, face straws, they were relentless .The dessert options were sad and lonely. It was decorated red and white with Coca-Cola memorabilia but the only served Pepsi. I went to the convenience store to get a fountain drink of Coke and of the 10 options only 2 had actual soda connected to them. We were there on a weekend and the museum was closed which seemed odd. I gave it three stars because the service was good and the shift manager was professional and friendly. The personnel were the highlight of the stop. read more

TA bought the truck stop and the restaurant is now no longer good. Menu shrunk, no New Mexican foods, and it seems it is all mass-produced foods heated up to sell. read more

As far as gas station food goes this is a way above average place to go dine at. Burgers were 9.5/10. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Tea was fresh and food came out in a blink. read more

Road weary riding, last decent stop for a while travelling on I-40. Sit down burger type joint with breakfast and some mexican dishes. I had the mushroom swiss burger, my friend had some kind of sloppy yummy chili burger something. Both were good! I didnt care for the onion rings, but i left nothing behind. I miss the original Russell's Stop! The people here are still phenomenal, food is still amazing and thank the American Indians, NOT THE TA SUITS, some of the local favorites are still on the menu! Another hometown old school truck stop restaurant taken over by a chain truck stop. This place used to be amazing and now it's the same TA menu every other TA has with a limited local menu. The food quality has went down and so has the service. We waited forever on our food and it was just mediocre. Really sad to see this place go down hill. This review is STRICTLY FOR THE CAFE. I posted a review for the truck stop separately. I ordered a side of fried okra, which was crispy and served freshly fried. However, they're definitely the frozen kind and not breaded in house. I wanted a taco salad and asked if I could get steak strips instead of ground beef and was told it would be an additional $10! They have a steak salad, so I opted for that instead. The greens were fresh and the steak was cooked well done. They do provide an ample serving with plenty of dressing. My boyfriend did get the taco salad and he said it was "bland & tasteless" I did see him adding salt & pepper to it... The service was good and the restaurant was clean. read more

NOTE: Review is not for the travel center, but for the restaurant. Okay, here we go... I figured I'd stop here for something to eat, you know to keep me going as I was traveling on old Route 66. They have a great menu, with a lot of American and Southwestern items. Service was great, and food was hot and came at a respectable time. I had the New Mexico burger, which was served on a tortilla. Something different, you know. I was asked, "Red or green chilies?" like I was at other places in New Mexico. They have pies for dessert and I regretfully didn't get one. read more

It was awful. Hot in the facility. Cooler outside. We got there at 7:00 pm on a Tuesday and the restaurant was closed . They have a subway but the toaster was down so only serving cold sandwiches. 2/21/20 5 I came across this cafe thanks to yelp, and at first it took me elsewhere as the address wasn't listed. It also didn't specify that it was inside of a truck stop. After carefully reading some reviews, I understood where to find this place and so glad I did. 1. The truck stop is huge with so many things to offer you while you either get gas or get food. 2. There's a cool diner inside. 3. The staff at the diner, museum and register were all very friendly and helpful. 4. Free vintage car museum 5. Clean restaurant, restroom and a lot of gifts/ souvenirs to pick from. I had a great time here, after ordering my steak and eggs and French toast, I was full to my maximum. I needed to walk off the food coma I was getting myself into, so I explored the vintage car museum and checked out the amazing vehicles they had. Along with all the nostalgic things you can imagine from the 50's & 60's era. Definitely come here and spend some time here, eating and exploring, it will be worth it read more

I got the beef enchiladas and they were the worse enchiladas I ever ate in my life. They were mostly potatoes with very little meat, I've never seen any enchiladas like that before. The waitress did a good job though, I won't Go Back to eat there. It has a cool Museum with a bunch of old cars and motorcycles. read more

It's conveniently located off of I40 easy on and off. Easily enough parking so that should be an issue. It's a very clean every where. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. This restaurant still has that old time feel of a truck stop diner, It has a wonderful old style counter and booths. They have lots of wonderful breakfast Fair and I had the hot roast beef sandwich and they still get their beef locally so it really tastes like roast beef. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. It has a typical truck stop area for truckers supplies and it has a large area for convenient store supplies like snacks and hot to go food similar to a 'loves or a flying j". It also has a Subway inside. I love the fact that it's locally owned and I love the fact that they use local beef and other things for their food. In true diner style they have great homemade pies and desserts. The topper was they have a wonderful free museum of cars and '50s which make it a nice rest stop for seniors and families. They also have an ice cream area so you get some ice cream treats. And I forgot to mention it has great variety of gas. All in all it was a fun place and I would recommend it. read more

10 STARS!!!! We all LOVED this restaurant, museum, store and gas station....all in one amazing stop! Our server PATTY was amazing! She definitely made our stop feel like we were familia! After placing our orders we went to the awesome museum, and it was free! If we could have spent more time there we would have loved to! There is so much history here, all so well kept, so clean and so fun! Our kids are teens to young adults and they all enjoyed themselves! The food was delicious!!!! A couple of us are super picky and all of our plates were left clean! Good prices too for our group! If you have time please stay to enjoy this place for everything it offers! Excellent atmosphere lured me in, the museum was a delight looking at all the best things from back in time- right before moseying back out into the amazing cafe. Super clean, themed perfect, & service gets all my thumbs AND my husbands thumbs up (not always such an easy feat). Food served hot & quick- order spot on and the sausage cooked to perfection along with crisp hash browns & bread toasted *just right*. First of all the Billboard work on the road! Second plenty of trk parking and fabulous food!! We decided to order dinner for breakfast just because it sounded good. Complimentary chips n salsa are great! Very thin chips and freshly fried. Omg. I had Chile Rellieno With green sauce. Oh my so fabulously tasty. This is good Mexican here! Bad experience. Started when I sat down at the cleanest table I could find, where there was a bloody bandaid. Servers were munching on food from the window. They had zero knowledge of the menu, so she asked the cook who also didn't know. Finally just ordered a burrito thinking anyone could cook that. My food took a long time to make even though it wasn't busy AND THEN it sat in the window for over 5 min while my server was talking to coworkers and munching on food. Had to flag her down to get my food which she was oblivious to the fact it was even ready. My burrito was cold and there was no rice and beans served with it like the menu said. $27 for cold food and TERRIBLE service the cook was in the back scratching his head/hair over the food. She's lucky I even left a tip at all. She was nice just not very good at her job. The other server stuffed her face with food and then walked over to give menus and ask for drink orders to a couple who sat down at the counter. Fun surprise! Clean, bright and shiny retro diner with great food, service and atmosphere. Don't judge this truck stop restaurant by its location. It's a legit dining experience. Lots of regulars too. After a great meal you can wander through a private automobile collection and stretch your legs or get a few necessities from their well stocked store. We got gas, used their clean restrooms, ate a great brunch then did a few laps around the museum. Excellent stop! read more
