Good food. I'm trying to eat healthy and I opted for the shrimp. I was able to choose 2 sides and I chose broccoli and grilled green beans. It was all very good. The grilled green beans were so tasty, and the broccoli was seasoned just right. In fact, I was wishing I could make broccoli and green beans taste that good when I make them at home myself. Fine, ordered 2 8 oz sirloin with loaded baked potatos. Took about 30 minutes to be served and the steaks had a little bit extra of a sear. A salad was ordered and was fine, though the pricing seems higher than other places in Amarillo or Canyon. Little long of a wait and while the food wasnt terrible, and no glaring issues like chipped plates were found, it still seems like a resturant that is kind of the king of mediocrity. It's been an absolute nightmare! 2 Times! First time by myself, guy comes and stops me and ask me to come back in. I had sat there by myself to order for 10 minutes, got up went to restroom and proceeded out front door! He actually followed me to ask why I was leaving. My husband & I were there 15 minutes never had a person ask us about a drink or dinner. People came in an got waited on immediately! My husband I got up to leave, I went back in and told them why we were leaving, mind you 4-5 waiters were just standing around. This is the second time I've not been waited on there! Not a negative rating person...but don't go there...I'm thinking unless you know the staff. Actually had a guy come out and stop us and tell us, I know your pain. Then told us a place to go. Ordinary. Nothing special. Atmosphere was plain. Our steaks were OK, but nothing exceptional. Filet was dry, and the deepest center was still sort-of medium rare, but the rest wasnt. The ribeye was adequate. Both a little better than Sizzler. Sides were OK. Service was understandably shaky in today's employment situation. It was pretty obvious most of them were pretty new. Overall it wasn't awful, but it wasn't outstanding. Just average. read more

Well this was a great surprise! One of the best steaks I've ever had! So good I ate there both nights I was in town for business. My sides were broccoli and sautéed mushrooms and both were done correctly. The waitperson I had both nights (Keegan) was very attentive. All the staff seemed to be very attentive to the diners , running drinks and food back and forth. I wish I could have tried more. S'more cheesecake? Sounded great! The food portions were large too. Sadly no thrills. The food was sub-par. Our waitress missed two items even though she read the order back to us. When she poured our drinks the cups either had too much ice or no ice. She dropped my mothers lemon wedge on the floor and said she would get another, but never did. Good: Sautéed mushrooms were tasty Bacon wrapped, cream cheese and cinnamon stuffed jalapeños were decent and unique (but not spicy unfortunately) Bad: Salmon was old and way overcooked Steak was lukewarm (the seasoning was nice) Sweet potato was not sweet... Asparagus was tough On a positive note the manager apologized in person and explained they were understaffed. It's possible that this was just an off night. She did give us 10% off as a courtesy. New art form of cooking, microwave a potato and then wrap it in tinfoil , then call it a baked potato. No one will know the difference . Appetizers all over the place. One thing I wanted I knew would be to much for one person was the blooming onion, Only because they had no fried mushrooms with a horseradish sauce. But that's that. Coke they served was flat, so I asked for the tea. And as for my salad before the steak ,well... the lettuce was like old and almost rubbery. Traveling through Hereford and decided to give Dakota's a try. First time eating here. Ordered the bacon wrapped firebirds with Dakota's signature house ranch dressing. They were very good. The bacon was cooked just right all throughout and the chicken was tender. My husband had the 16 oz ribeye and it was cooked just as ordered and had a great flavor to it. The chicken fried steak I ordered was a large tender portion with a crispy crust that wasn't saturated with oil. You receive two sides with both plates. The service here is absolutely terrible! After our waitress did a horrible job and didn't check in on us once. She then proceeded to pocket all our change without asking if we wanted it back! Of course we said something about it and she was very rude and took half an hour to return with only some of our tables change. Great food...HORRENDOUS service! Just had my family outing ruined by the the horrible service. Took forever to get drinks. Had to hunt down the server to get refills. My husband asked for tea and got lemonade, but he just gave up and drank the lemonade. Literally felt like we were bugging every time we asked for something we needed. Have been here four times in the last month hoping the service was just hit and miss but no...it's been like this every time. Which sucks because we really do enjoy the food and don't want to have to drive to Amarillo every time for a good steak and decent service. My partner and I were looking for a steak house to eat at when we're making a delivery in Friona. I came to Yelp and was disheartened by a few reviews, but we tried it anyway. The men's room was very clean and the silverware and glasses were clean also. I ordered the 12oz sirloin medium well. This was the best steak o have ever had. I didn't need to do anything to the steak when it got to the table. Hats off to the chef and I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. P.S. The staff was great. We were traveling through and after driving around a bit decided to try Dakotas. We found the food good. Both of us had chicken fried steak, a healthy serving. One of my sides was asparagus with lime and chili's, very good. They were not busy as it was 3:45, however service was good. We had a beer and wine that were a bit pricey. Bill was $44 plus tip. This place has come a long way. Wait staff and kitchen staff problems seem to have been resolved and you can now expect to receive wonderful service all around. The food has also improved. Steaks are cooked perfectly and the appetizer menu is great (my fav is a tie between the green chili chips and the onion blossom) The bleu cheese dressing is outstanding and I love the Firebirds! I'll first say there are not many choices to eat in Hereford unless you want fast food. The Service was slow, seated for 15 min before drink order was taken, they were not busy it was just disorganized. Later we realized our server was also helping train the bar tender. Total time in the restaurant for a meal was over 2 hours. Food was ok, one would think in the Cow capital of the World the steaks would be top notch, but they were marginal. When she ran our card the total was $1 less than the bill amount, so we left her a dollar in cash to make up the difference. When she came to the table we told her and she said that she doesn't know how to fix it, so she'll have to re-run the card and cancel the other transaction, this lead to another 10 minute wait, we couldn't wait to get out of there. read more

Not impressed...After a long day of traveling we stopped in and asked if they could hold us. Granted, our group was of a larger size (25) but the difference between here and anywhere else in the world I could have gone was substantial. Besides slow service, the drinks were very unusual tasting. I should have gone with shots, it would have hopefully masked the slow service and flavorless food. Really wished this restaurant would get it's issues worked out. Haven't been in because of these same issues for a year now and still not any better! Service was slow even with the 4 servers helping. Steak was cooked too much (never an accurate cooked steak when ordered here) Our chicken tenders were undercooked had them take those back (when they finally brought those back everyone had already finished eating) I ordered catfish and well it was like one filet cut up into 4 nuggets for $15. Oh and we had to get our own menus!! It wasn't busy, only in the bar area- maybe 2 other tables occupied where we were. So that can't be their excuse for poor service and poor food. Beer order was correct.. I did thought have to tell them what was in a bloody Maria. Food quality for the amount of money spent on 4 plates. Really was hoping this place would get better. I like to be positive in my reviews, but it is hard to be positive about this place. Upon entering I stood, waiting to be seated for longer than should be necessary. There was a person in front of me that looked like he had been there for too long as well. The atmosphere is nice though. When I finally got seated, the waitress took my drink order. It was a long time before she came back. It looked like she was also the bartender so it didn't bother me at that point. But there were not many people in the bar area at the time. Fast forward to the food. The salad was very underwhelming. It was the mixed salad out of a bag with croutons, tomatoes, and onions on top. For a steakhouse, this is underachieving and unacceptable for a place that charges $44 for a steak. The bread they served was dry and a little burned on the bottom. I ordered the steak and salmon dish. Had green beans for a side. The green beans were ok. Nothing special. The salmon was good. I enjoyed it. The steak however was terrible. I stopped eating it after a few bites. It was the chewiest I have had in a long time. And not really cooked properly in my opinion. In summary, this steakhouse is charging prices that indicate it is an establishment of high standards. In reality, the food and service are so subpar that I won't return again. This is my second visit. The first visit was just as bad. But hey, if you're the only steakhouse in town, then I guess you don't have to do much to get the business.
