One word for In Flight Running: AWESOMENESS! yep, this club rocks. Why am I getting this hyped up about a running club you may wonder? Because they have changed my life for the better, and made me a much better runner (and person) along the way. Ater a few years of recreational running and scouting different running clubs, this is by far the best running group in H-town. Even if you are not into running but have it on your "list" of things to do, or just getting into running but want some running buddies, or are a good runner and want some training, or just any person who wants training and a great group of people and coaches to run with every weekend... then join In Flight! just do it already, you won't be dissappointed. You get so much more out of this club then you ever can imagine, all you have to do is show up and there is a whole community of people there to run with, hang with, socialize with, party with, heck whatever you do, there are people for that there, too. What is better than having fun with new friends and burning calories at the same time? Honestly before In Flight, I was not even a "club" type of person.. but after years of thinking that running a marathon was out of my reach, this group has shown me that anyone and everyone can do this. I registered for my first marathon this year and decided that the only way I could really pull it off was by joining a club and being held accountable. The peeps over at Fleet Feet recommended In Flight, and by that same evening the Coach, Michael Merlino, had personally talked to me and invited me to a run in Kemah that following Saturday. Wow! What a great first time experience... I was really sold and hooked after that. Not because of the run, but more because of the people. I was so nervous that I would be the slowest one out there, but honestly there are runners at EVERY pace and EVERY level. I had instant running companions and made instant new friends for life. There are many options for training and runners also: you can just register for the long Saturday runs, you can do hill training, or speed training, or all of the above - and you get lots of fun perks such as monthly happy hours (awesome!) and free seminars and member discounts at my favorite running store: Fleet Feet. Honestly this is a great group of people that I am so honored to have met and running with them is so much fun that even if I don't feel like running on a Saturday I would still show up just because I don't want to miss the fun... now that is saying a LOT for a Saturday morning!!!

She really knows what she is doing and is very encouraging. My strength and balance have improved considerably even though I haven't been very good about doing work in between sessions. They have a variety of classes to fit your needs, goals, or just energy level that day: first timers (for beginners), signature, sculpt (a lil' more weights, def more challenging), praise (prayer and gospel integrated in class), unwind (stretch class)... My favorite instructors--in no particular order--are Bobbie, Nina-Simone, and Sheridan. They all challenge you, help level up your practice (or give you space to take a step back if you need it), cheer you on... and their classes start on time! I live by my calendar and have 20+ scheduled meetings all week, so I like being able to rely on their classes starting and ending on time. (There is a 5 minute grace period for anyone arriving late, but I appreciate that they don't hold up the class for one or two people.) Vera often offers themed classes (themed musical artists or genres) and they sometimes bring in complimentary (and very thoughtful) treats like donuts for mother's day, cookies just because... they also do challenges with prizes--like luxe handbags. What, what?! My biggest tips for newbs (Pilates newbs or new to Vera): Arrive 10 min early so your instructor can show you around, explain the rules (no shoes!), and demo the machine if ya need it. Don't arrive *right* when class starts... that aint right, ya'll.

We wanted to continue this once we returned to Houston, but we didn't want to find a studio with 30+ students and the Pilates classes at our current gym didn't give us any feedback on whether we were doing the positions/moves correctly. We turned to yelp for help :) We were looking for the following in a studio to supplement our gym membership: 1) small classes 2) personal attention 3) encouraging and attentive teachers This studio has all 3 of these things, but it's not limited to Pilates! They have yoga and cycling classes that meet the above three requirements too! We've only been members since October, but we look forward to our weekly classes. What's really nice is the class feels tailored to us. My husband and I have different bodies (height, strength, flexibility, etc), and the teachers really adapt to us! They'll change certain routines to ensure each student is getting the most of the session. It's a great personalized experience, and your body will thank you. I've already noticed better posture and just awareness of how I hold myself when doing everyday things at home or at work. What a neat find - thank you, yelpers!
