Great indoor venue…read more Tons of parking and lots of nearby restaurants to fuel up afterward. They have membership options which are well worth it if you live nearby and play frequently. This gives you half off court fees and open play fees. More importantly, it allows you to register earlier than non-members. I am not a member and I saw that the registration for open play filled up before it even became available for non-members. Luckily, there were cancellations so I was able to get a spot to try out the courts. The open play is pretty high level play. I would say that the average play was about 3.5. I enjoyed the competitive but good spirited players who I competed with. There are 6 courts and it is a four on-four off rotation with paddles stacked on the fence. The courts had lots of space for ATP and Ernie's. I also thought it was hilarious that most of the advertisements and sponsors on the walls were for physical therapists and senior homes. That's pickleball in a nutshell! Hopefully will get the chance to drop by again.

My rating for Turkey Thicket continues to drop because of their lack of mechanical maintenance…read more Only one of the two drinking fountains in the pool area works, and just barely. Only one of the men's showers works and has a soap dispenser. The middle one has been broken as long as I have been going there, with a big HOLE in the wall covered with see-through plastic where you can see the (nonfunctional) pipes. The third is missing its handle and its soap dispenser and they can't even put even hooks on the shower curtain. And now the swimsuit spinner is simply MISSING from the wall, with connections still hanging out where it used to. DC LOVES to built NEW facilities but apparently has zero interest in maintaining the ones it already has. I note that users are "required" to use the shower before getting in the pool. Good luck with that. Is the women's locker room this crappy or is just the men's locker room nobody cares about?

This facility consists of 7 indoor pickleball courts which may be the most in Montgomery county…read more Drop-in plays are available two days a week -Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to noon. There are two open gyms - one with 4 courts for beginners and intermediate players and the other with 3 courts for advanced players. In addition to drop-ins, free beginners clinics are also provided on Fridays between 8:30 am and 10 am. These helpful clinics are conducted by advanced player volunteers and they are very beneficial for those who are interested in learning to play pickleball for the first time. Pickleball is offered indoor at Bohrer Activity Center during Fall, Winter and Spring sessions. For the summer months, it is moved outdoor to Diamond Farms Park, Gaithersburg. For each indoor session, there is a fee of $3 for Gaithersburg residents and $4 for non-residents for participating in the drop-ins and clinics which is a good deal when compared to other indoor court time or activities. There is no fee for outdoor sessions however. So beginners will get free clinics outdoor on Fridays. So for those who are interested in the fastest growing sports in U.S., we are fortunate to have this facility with venues for all levels of skills nearby.
