I especially enjoy the paths that lead to the fresh water ponds, where you can admire the beauty of the area while getting some exercise. I've been here to walk 4-5 times, in different seasons, and each has its charm. In the spring, you will see myriad flowers in bloom, hear the lovely song of little streams and birds trilling. Winter is very different, with frosty pine cones and leaves to photograph, and everything so still. Fall is lovely! I saw two does with their mostly grown fawns, and encountered a baby rattlesnake! That surprised me greatly as I've never seen or heard of them around here. I confess that fall is my favorite season; I love the bluest skies and the aroma of leaves. I prefer not walking on asphalt too much, so as soon as I can (where the duck loop cuts off and so does the vernal trail) I cut down to the sand/dirt path along the water. Both trails, asphalt and dirt, eventually end up at a sort of trail end. The other day when I was here, since there was no water in the stream, I crossed over to see if I could go any farther - ermmm not really. There are numerous access points from the neighborhood that borders the preserve, so lots of folks seem to walk their dogs close to home. The water was extremely low since we've had very little rain; I was surprised at how far the mud banks extended into the lake. There are NO services whatsoever! Go potty before you get out to walk!

When I first…read morelived here, 2000-2003, Burba was really nice, well maintained, the water quality was good and there were enough little bluegill/sunfish to make a kid tired of catching them. This is no longer a "good" fishing spot, and not the overall family recreation area that it could be. This not just an old guy "get off my lawn" observation [okay its a little bit of that]. For many complex reasons the resource is no longer in good shape. There are far too many year round Canada Geese (nutirent load/water quality aspects), the shoreline is not regualrly groomed/maintained. The asphalt path that rings the lake is also in rough shape. It looks nice from a distance, and the playgrounds are still usable. But Burba Lake is a shadow of its former self right now. I understand the realities of the resources to restore it - but I do wish there was a way to do so. If there were a magic wand: -greatly reduce geese -restore water flow into lake (feeder streams in terrible shape) -maintain bank vegetation -restore native water plants -manage algae blooms -drop in structure for fish habitat -stock a variety of native fish species (I've only seen sunfish/turtles)

Alot of the other parks around are close to highways so you do not get the level of peace and quiet that comes with provinces park. They have 2 playgrounds. A basketball court, tennis court, some baseball fields, and soccer fields.

When I lived on Disney a road I walked the trail three to four times a week. The old man who donated the land would stand outside his home at wave as I walked to the park. I live a little further away now, and the old man has since been called home to glory. Patuxent Ponds Park had all of that in a little trail in a little park that was just the perfect tiny package for my darling pup. There are benches around a pond and it has pretty scenery... not sure what more you're looking for to relax in a park but I was definitely happy. Still, in the summer, the pond is just a bunch of still water and I imagine it is a mosquito and tick (if that's also a Maryland thing?) haven. But for winter and fall it is great. The path winds around to another part of the pond, the only bummer is it doesn't circle fully so you have to turn back around. Still, very pretty and calm. If I had to really come up with a complaint, it's that there is no garbage can. Had to bring both of my dogs' poop bags in the car with me and drive it up the road to the walking trail to get a garbage. Either way, I'll be back.

That new section is really nice. They've even repaired some of the small bridges to refresh the trail. Also, they have added bike repair stations at a few intersections along the trail. Which include a bike pump to put air in your tires and some tools that are chained to a pole. That's pretty cool!! If you'd like to extend your ride you can continue on down Odenton road for a few more miles. Check it out!

The W B & A Trail is a nine-mile stretch that runs through Odenton (Anne Arundel. Situated in the family-friendly and super walkable Piney Orchard neighbhorhood, it is easy to access and open for all to enjoy. I've ran, walked and biked down the trails and have gotten a good workout in every time. You also get to enjoy the scenary as you pass by several bodies of water and bridges. It's pretty flat, so good for all levels of fitness. Be careful because the trail is divided up by road way. Get out there and get some fresh air and just breathe.

I suppose tennis fans might appreciate the courts (generally open although sometimes I've seen groups in there). Other county parks offer larger playgrounds and longer, more interesting walking paths (Quiet Waters, for instance) but for a local park this has its place.
