The park itself is nice and well maintained, however, we were there this past weekend with our grandchildren to go to the "beach area!" What a filthy filthy experience! The seaweed was 5 feet from the shoreline into the water on all of the "water areas!" The water filthy, duck poop EVERYWHERE on the sand... very difficult to walk a "clear path!" And lots of loud music and swearing of other visitors! Do NOT RECOMMEND this Park for any type of water swimming or water period ! read more

Even in the dead of winter it's a Beautiful park located at the convergence of 2 rivers that empty in to the bay. Things to love : Well marked roads. Nice vistas. Walking trails. Playgrounds for children. A nice place to see boars go by. You can partake of this park and 4 other county parks with a pass for $40 yearly, $30 for seniors. If you are 65 you can get that pass for a lifetime for 1 fee. read more

We come here almost monthly to help clean the beach. It offers lots of amenities including a playground, walking trail, swimming beach, fishing, and kayaking/boat launches. It does get crowded by the beach during warmer days. Trying to grab a table and grill can be hit or miss depending on how busy it is. Given how often we go to the local parks, we always buy an annual pass, glad that the money goes to a good cause. It increased to $40 this year so they were pushing to have people buy them online. I did this to save the $10 but put downs park as my preferred park because we often go there- less crowded most of the time. When we visited here to clean up I asked if they could give me a sticker instead of the paper pass. I got a lecture about how I should have picked them and how "i won't charge you this time." Really? I'm helping clean the park and giving money to it and you're complaining I picked another nearby park instead of giving me the sticker? I was told they would charge me for entrance until I have the sticker even though I already bought the annual pass. Huh? Makes no sense. read more

I honestly can't do this review without a before and after. We used to come here so much in the summer for a nice close by swim. 2021 it was closed down and 2022 we didn't get to go. Man we were super disappointed when we came back. Ready for a nice swim and some fresh sun. But nope. The smell and muck near the water made it impossible to tolerate being there. I was honestly very disappointed with the change here. It's so much nasty stuff, bathrooms aren't clean. I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's definitely one of my happy places. There's so much to do here: there's picnic tables with grills, there's small beaches you can swim in during the summer, there's playgrounds and basketball hoops for kids, and if you've got boats, you can leave and come back from and fishing. There's tons to do and lots to see. It's so beautiful and the people are truly so kind. The only downside is there's lots of geese and often the poo is not taken care of. read more

Had a good time yesterday visiting this park and it's small beach It seems to be not well known as the beach was small but not too many people there. The water goes way out before it goes too deep. Fort Smallwood Park features numerous opportunities for outdoor activities, from running to just sitting in your car looking out over the water. I have spent many hours walking along the trail that runs the circumference of the park. It is a good fishing spot, too. The county has an ongoing project to refurbish the park, and it shows well. Small beach , pretty clean n peaceful , the water is low so u have go pretty far out if u want it to be deep , u don't step on a bunch of rocks n seashells , they have a part on the beach where your dogs can swim as well as a part for finishing , it was only $7 for a car load, I'm looking forward too going back next year read more

This park is very pretty and family friendly. There are small trails and in the summer beach are for swimming. Parking can be tight. There are rock jetty'sfor fishing.The only thing that I didn't like was that the water makes anything white you wear to an ugly brown, make sure you wear dark colors to the beach area. read more

Looking beyond all the yellow tape and orange fences due to what looks like remodeling. This is a pretty nice park. It's got a nice view of the water, and even a pier. The playground is nice, and there is a lot of space to run around or do other group activities. There is also a basketball court. The only downside is that there is really no shade near the playground, and the picnic tables are a good distance away. This park would be perfect on maybe a windy 65° day, but other then that I'll pass. Hook up some shade and this park would be perfect. read more

I like this place, but it's just "ok". The problem is that it doesn't cater to children and there really isn't much to do here, in my humble opinion. Yes, there is a playground, HOWEVER, there is no shade for quite a distance from it. There are picnic tables a bunch of yards away but honestly I'd feel like a bad parent sitting there while my kids played on scorching plastic slides and I was so far away. In the fall/spring, I'm sure this playground is fun but in the summer, it's too darn hot! There are a few beaches to play at but they're not really lay out and tan beaches (although, some people do). They're more for fishing or skipping stones or getting your toes wet. Other than that, they have a place where you can put your boat in the water but that's about it. Not really a super amazing park. On the up side, it's usually never packed or crowded. I've often been the only one on the playground/beach with my kids. It's really pretty and open, just a lack of activities to do. read more

I was expecting to be a fun day to celebrate with the family for 4th of July, the place is nice but the beach is closed for this day! I've never seen a 4th of July celebration with the beach closed! What's the pint of coming to this place and not even get in the water. If you're thinking to come to the beach or celebrate and if you think you'll get in the water don't waste your time. this park is perfect for relaxing on a nice summer day! there's plenty of picnic areas, a playground, a swimmable beach, and a trail for biking/hiking. the views of the water and bridge are spectacular and calming. fishing, however, didn't go so well for us, either because we unluckily chose the wrong spot, or it was too windy, but i'm sure it would've been better on a clear day. read more

I'm a little shocked at the bad reviews. I can understand not wanted to pay 6$ if you just wanted to swing by for a half hour but come on. And one person complaining about too much sun and not enough shade lol. There is a great sandy beach area spot to launch your kayaks, canoes, and sup. and next to that there is a beach with a swimming area its pretty small compared to hammerman beach but can still lay out. My interaction with the ranger was very pleasant. He politely told me to please be in at 810 with my kayak so I can be out of park in time for closing. Fort Smallwood Park is a decent place to go on the bay for nice views of the water. There are plenty of spots to fish, and it's reasonably clean, as these types of parks go. The only real downside is that it can be quite busy, especially in picnic season. There are also quite a few joggers and dog walkers, so birding is tough because of the constant traffic on the paths. Because of this, it might be a more rewarding place to visit off-season, when there are not so many bodies to contend with. read more

Sometimes the park is kind of crowded but I've always gotten an open spot with the picnic tables and mini grill. My kids love going here and we always have their birthday parties there a few times a year. It's pretty clean and the scenery is wonderful. read more
