Not very appealing, everything taste of old grease. Shame because we were expecting greatness but just got disappointed

Perhaps we'll try dine-in next time. Quite spacious in the restaurant with good parking outside. Fairly pleasant service. You get a bit of a discount if you pay by cash.

Finally, fish and chips are back in Stouffville!…read more I've been to Joy's Fish & Chips a few times since they opened mid-2024. I've eaten in and taken out, both of which were mostly positive experiences. The service is consistently friendly and pleasant to interact with. It feels like everyone genuinely enjoys working here, which is a big difference maker. The only minor issue is when dining in. In the first few months of being open I find that the restaurant is often packed and service can be a bit slow (as of December 2024). Other than that, service has been fantastic. As I mentioned earlier, the restaurant often seems busy if you're dining in. However, since I live so close I prefer to take out. As of now they don't have any delivery services but if you're willing to pick up for yourself they're pretty quick. I've had big orders that's I've called in and told it would be ready in 20 min. When I go to the restaurant and order (a smaller order) it's only usually about 10-15 minutes even when the restaurant is packed. The food is very, very good! The fish is battered and cooked to order, which you can see for yourself from the takeout counter. It has a delicious crispy batter while the fish stays moist. The fries (chips) are nice and thick and perfectly fried. My only minor complaint is that the fries need more salt. But that's something I can add myself. I've also tried their scallops and shrimp. Both are really good but not quite the same level of their fish. While I don't know if they're battered to order, they're still juice and fried perfectly. Worth trying! Lastly, I just wanted to mention parking. They have a few parking spots to the right of the building, which is perfect for takeout since the takeout entrance on the right side of the building. They have a few parking spots in front and then also quite a spots to the left of the building. Plenty of parking! Overall, I'm super happy Joy's Fish & Chips! I've been going fairly regularly and I've only had great experiences.

This is our go to fish and chips place. We get takeout a lot. Our older son loves loves everything…read more Only on one occasion did I find a bone in the fish. But after so many times doing takeout it only happened once, so not bad at all. Halibut: 4.75/5 crispy and then soft inside. Yum. Sometimes could be a little more tender but most times we have ordered it was perfect. Chowder: 6/5 So good. So much flavour. Mushy peas: 7/5 How do they make it like that?! Never will peas taste that good. Chips: 5/5 Great chips! And excellent gravy to accompany. Onion rings: 4.5/5 Pretty good! Sometimes the batter is a little consistent but they are good overall. Highly recommend!

Finding a good fish & chips spot can be tricky at times when you think about balancing price,…read moreportion size, the batter, and the chips. This spot did a pretty good job overall. The batter wasn't too thick, greasy, or salty, and the fish filet was thick enough that it retained its structure when eating (instead of becoming a flaky mess). Chips were decent, but not the standout for me. Even their seniors portion size of fish & chips is quite filling. I also really enjoyed the seafood chowder, though it was on the saltier side. Shocked at how large the bowl of chowder was for the price, and they did not skimp out on the ingredients. No one wants a chowder that's 80% roux/cream base and 20% veggies with canned or frozen seafood mixed in. Be forewarned that finding parking on Main St Newmarket can be challenging during events and busier times/seasons!

Both my Mom and I had the Haddock & Chips special they were running for $8... all things considered the food wasn't that bad. The fish (5/5) was pretty good. Par as far as expectations go for crispiness and flavour. The chips (4/5) were also pretty good. My only gripe (and it's a stretch) is that the portion size was kind of ridiculous (too much!) The coleslaw (2/5) wasn't that inspiring. It was somewhat dry, lacking a vinegar or dressing to give it any flavour. Anybody can shred a cabbage and instantly have better coleslaw than this. The beverages (2/5) for dine-in customers weren't any different from the take-out ones, which definitely detracted from the experience. Water was served in a cup/glass but pop was can-only. I'm not going to stick around for dessert if I can't get a fountain beverage. The ambiance (1/5) is cold and uninviting. The lights are so bright that my eyes hurt. Not a place to go for an intimate meal. The tables and chairs are sparse, as if to say "we don't anticipate filling this restaurant with customers". The decor (3/5) was clean and sharp but there's not much of anything interesting to cast your eyes on while you wait save for a single TV that only a quarter of the restaurant can see. The staff (3/5) was highly attentive to all tables, but there were more than a few instances where staff were just loitering about in the dining room or talking on their cell phones, which was somewhat uncomfortable since we were mere feet away. The checkout experience (1/5) was made incredibly awkward by their POS device from Clover. The brand-new touch-screen device wasn't responding properly to the screen being tapped. No checkout experience is comfortable when the server (albeit necessarily) has to hover over the customer in case anything (which likely will here) go wrong. Kudos to our server though - she did a great job walking us through the transaction. I'm not one for permanent reviews, so if the owner ends up reading this... continue to make incremental positive changes to the restaurant and I'll be back!
